Just curious to see people's favorite comic and cartoon heroes, and more importantly why they like that hero.

Doesn't have to be specifically mainstream comic book super heroes, just the generally heroic type.

Pic related for me.

Since he had a comic run, I guess I'd go with Harry Dresden. His comics tend to be pretty hit or miss and blue show sucked but the books are legendary

One of my favorite charactes in all of fiction. .

Batman/Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Blackagar Boltagon/Black Bolt

Just what I grew up with. Batman and Dick because they're both humans who lead superpowered metahumans with their intellect, skill and hard work.

Black Bolt because he can destroy worlds by speaking...and he annoyed in infinity which is difficult to do

As a guy working on a Theology PHD focusing on the beliefs people have held about demons I've gotta say Ghost Rider has the most potential, then again so many of the old demons are routed in beliefs that would appear bigoted today. Though some, such as Behemoth, could work with the whole anti-capitalism push going through comics atm.

Brainiac 5 (mainly reboot), though I suppose he's not the most heroic hero out there.

I like his personality, development and weird ass family history. I'm not even sure why but his story just feels more "real" to me than most other heroes, perhaps because he's very pointedly flawed from start to finish and causes a lot of his own problems.

Spider-Man. As a young kid I felt like a bit of an outcast, so responded well to stories about Peter the outcast being able to be this cocky, spectacular hero.

As an adult I still find a lot interesting about the themes that inhabit the character and his stories - the responsibility to do good, even at the cost of self-sacrifice, the toll that takes on a man, and what motivates him to keep doing good. When written well that shit is golden.

A bit cliche, but a tie between Superman and Batman.

Superman for his dedication to truth and justice. I really like how he has such incredible power and uses it to help others. I also enjoy whenever he uses strategy and tactics to win without killing his enemies.

Batman for his unrelenting will. He crusades for justice by going after criminals. Through hard work and dedication he becomes just as efficient as people with powers. I really like his tactics and wit. It shows how he has to work his brain a lot more due to his lack of power.

I like superman because he's pretty much THE super hero. Not only was he a huge part of kicking off the genre, he is the standard by which other heroes are measured.

Hawkeye, particularly the "Hawkguy" characterization because he's just some dude making his way as a hero with relatively little. He's not a paragon of virtue like Steve or a God, or a millionaire. He's a guy with a bow.

Also, The Great Machine. But that's more about how much I like Ex Machina than Mitchell himself. his powers and suit are also really cool imho.

Wesley Dodds too, same reasons.
>>
>1. Wally West
Kid acted as a perfect self insert in his early days, the superhero fan riding shotgun with the Flash. He wasn't just a sidekick, he was a sidekick that represented the reader.

After that we got perhaps the largest uninterrupted run ~200 issues of quality writing and character development. We see a teenage kid with serious flaws and issues evolve into a true hero who ends up being someone that every around him looks up to.

>2. Aquaman
He is unique in that he has to balance kingship with being a hero, he exists in a unique environment has one of the best written romantic relationships and has the capacity to provide dumb comfy fun. I'm a big fan of world building and with Aquaman you get that in spades.

>3. Superman
I'm a fan of superheroes and this guy embodies both parts of that word. Super? He is exceptionally powerful which allows for truly epic stories to be told. Hero? The guy has the best moral compass in the game and can genuinely give you that feel good feeling inside when you read him. On top of that he has the best dual identity thing going on and I find Clark Kent really relatable as far as being a nervous nerd is concerned. Clark being relatable allows Superman to be the perfect vehicle for escapism.

Now that I think about it, Superman is to me as an adult what Spiderman was as a teenager. I connect with the alter ego and enjoy the escapism the superhero side provides. Peter is the witty but shy teenager who doesn't get the girl and Clark is the guy who shines so bright on the insight but can't convey that to everyone around him.

I usually go for the Young Justice style superboy for two reasons. First, it's more recognized than his comic book appearances, especially among young people. Second, when you're working a con it's a lot easier to get around in jeans and combat boots than it is in a full layered bodysuit like the one I have for his New 52 appearance.

And finally because she makes me drool and swoon at the same time. Also she has a GOAT roaster of rogues, I swear to fuck she had better get some more page time fucking soon because shit with Brother Night needs settling.

The art of the series varies wildly. The cover art usually looks really great but the actual art for the series varies wildly. It can be anything from the typical mainstream comic book style to a more stylized, gritty cartoon style like what you see in Fool Moon.

As far as I know there are five stories out thus far.

The two first books are out in comic form, and there are three original stories (but they're written by Jim Butcher so they're totally canon, which is nice), War Cry, Welcome to the Jungle, and Goblin something or the other.

Yeah they're canon with the books, so some stuff you might have cocked your head at gets explained in them. Im working on reading through the comics myself while i bang my head in antocipation for the next actual book or the Iniri stories to finally fucking come out. Pic very related.

All he wants is to be left alone & even though the puny humans fear him & treat him like shit he still goes out of his way to save them. Also he's the strongest there fuckin is

I just like how reading through them helps correct the visuals I had in my head for how people look. Seeing the difference between what's in my mind, what's on the page, and what's described in the books really helps to make sure you have your visualization down. My picture of Thomans and Morgan were both quite a bit off until I started reading the comics (I swear, the way Stjepan Sejic draws Harry and Thomas is perfect, see >>84281509).

That's the fucks who have never read Superman or who are just trolling; it's not about the powers, but the person who wields them.
In Supes case, he's just a supremely cool guy that does good because he believes it to be the right thing, and who also despite being a fucking demigod, he always tries to live like a human.
>>
>>84284439
But N52 Shazam is actually pretty cool

Same here. For some stupid reason I always thought Superman was a cliche hero that never got out of the Golden Age. Then I started reading Superman stories and goddamn, I'm Superman's #1 fan now
>>
>>84286518
I think i more or less had everyone down right in my head. It took some mental arobics to get Thomas to not be blonde and to make Molly blonde with highlights instead of raven black hair.
though when Harry goes into bob's skull it was an effort to not use the actor from the TV show who played Bob.
>>84286750
Yeah, I had most characters down right but my version of Thomas was a bit thinner and more effeminate than he's supposed to be and I couldn't stop picturing the Sidhe (FUCK the pronunciation of that word) pointy ears since they fit the tolkienesque elf archetype.

On the subject of visualizing the characters I noticed something, I think jim does it on purpose to troll us. I have never read a description on him wearing a damn hat but he always had a hat on the covers of the novels. There's even jokes in the books about him lacking a hat (I left it in the car).
>>
>>84287082
He even has a few lines about not liking hats. Literally the only time in the books he wears the hat is when he and Michael go to that hospital in the third book.

I love characters that try to do good in spite of their heritage, and I think Raven exemplifies that best.

Add in things like her pacifism and difficulty understanding her emotions and I think she's one of the more compelling characters to come out of Teen Titans when she's written well.

It disappoints how much more popular the cartoon version is, despite the fact that I like that version as well. Also how it often feels like people care more about her love life than her actual character, and I say that as a massive BBRae fag too.

I hope New 52 starts treating her better, but I'm not holding her breath.

I'm lame but Cyclops because I always wanted to be like a good kid and a leader standing up for people but I fell into a bad crowd and got in trouble
so he was like Marvel's Superman to me. Just a dude trying to do what's right no matter what. I like the boring boy scout characters because there is depth in their character to be morally upright and take responsibility. It's a difficult thing to do.

Also when I was little I think I remember reading an issue where Cyclops is implied that he got diddled by Mr. Sinister and I kinda relate...

>Quintessential superhero outlook
>God-tier costume
>Proved himself during the Annihilation Wave
>Sacrificed himself along with Star Lord to stop the Cancerverse and Thanos from destroying/overtaking the main universe

Sure, that last point is made virtually pointless by current story arcs, but I don't really care; as far as I'm concerned, Richie and Peter died with Thanos in the Cancerverse as heroes. Which is easy to do, since I haven't really read comics since then. Besides, despite a bunch of nerds insisting otherwise, there's no such thing as continuity in comics.
