http://www.starwars.com/databank/holonet-news

Interesting. I like how the news media was nationalized (for lack of a better word) under the Republic during the Clone Wars so naturally the Empire just never relinquished control and made it their state-sanctioned mouthpiece to tell the galaxy only what they wanted it to know.

StarWars.com actually did an AR campaign for this before AOTC (back before AR campaigns were even really a thing) where they'd have an actual Holonet News website with various "real" articles. Some of them described events that would lead up to AOTC such as updates on the Separatist Crisis, press releases from Palpatine, etc, but they'd also have news of random disasters, financial news, society, editorials, etc. When AOTC finally premiered the site said it had been taken over by the office of the chancellor for temporary emergency use.

It was pretty neat and I wish they'd do something like it again.
>>
>>84268492
IIRC Pablo was in charge of that, too. This was some of his earliest stuff, before he was a bigshot creative executive.
>>
>>84268492
That's pretty cool. They did something similar with Rebels, with a website with Imperial propaganda. When Rebels premiered, the website got covered with Sabine's graffiti.
>>
>>84268492
I remember that! They had an article about Nute Gunray's mistress publishing some shocking tell-all book, and how it was at the top of the bestseller list while Valorum's autobiography that came out at the same time wasn't selling for shit.

Also they had a gossip columnist criticizing all of the various senator's outfits like a catty E! host.

If they ever came back and did another season of The Clone Wars and got to rewrite how the Obi-Wan vs Anakin duel went from Episode 3, do you think it would be a good thing for them to change it?

I love Anakin's character way more in The Clone Wars series and feel like Anakin wouldn't be so utterly blinded by rage and overconfidence like he is here to the point where he'd get in such a lousy position to be chopped in half, but I accept it as the canon story daddy George Lucas bestowed upon us. I want to see it played out a little differently. No matter what, Obi-Wan does in fact win and Anakin's charred body is put in the iconic black Vader suit.

why do people misunderstand midiclorians?
>>
>>84273045
They haven't watched TCW ever, and haven't seen Phantom Menace in a decade at least, and thus get all their knowledge from Youtube videos of people who sound like they know everything, but are just as misunderstood.

I think I have seen a dozen posts on 4chan since TFA claiming that JJ retconned the Prequels by not mentioning Midichlorians.
>>
>>84273045
>>84273217
We should have a pastebin going over what the midichlorians are and explains them thoroughly, that we can point people to who don't fully understand.
>>
>>84273045
It's basically just the force but in measured terms, right?
>>
>>84273246
Can we?
>>
>>84273305
No.

If I could try explain it in the simplest way possible, I would say that it's a measurement of your current Force POTENTIAL.

The reason Anakin's was so high, despite no training, was because he was the Chosen One. His potential was already skyrocketed.

The misconception, is that it was a direct measurement, comparable to Dragonball Z powerlevels, which would make Anakin literally more powerful than Yoda.

On top of this, Midichlorians basically flock to Force-hotspots. That's the only reason Jedi are able to "measure" Force sensativity in the first place.

Now consider what Obi-Wan says in reaction to Qui-Gon telling him about Anakin's Midichlorians;

>That's even higher than Master Yoda!

Now most fans were too busy bitching about Anakin having a high Midi count, to realize the implication of Yoda ALSO having a high count. Yoda sure as shit wasn't born with it. It increased over time. As Yoda learned, and trained, he became stronger in the Force, and thus Midichlorians flocked to him.

So there, Midichlorians are not a direct measurement, but a more vague one, to let a Jedi know if there is potential enough to even train a kid. Anakin only had a high count from birth because Shmi activated the CH0S3N1 cheat code.
>>
>>84273373
I'll quickly add that Midichlorians basically don't count past the initial training.

It was literally just supposed to tell Jedi if a kid is worth training or not. Past the initial Yes/No, I don't think Midichlorians really affect anything past that. It's all very much still about perseverance and dedication to make yourself better.

The Force is also unaffected. One of the major complaints is that it demystifies the Force, except (and it admittedly wasn't too clear in TPM) that isn't the case. TCW goes into it much further that there is a difference between the Living Force and Cosmic Force, and it's all very much still deep rooted in magical shit that can not be explained with Science.

It's not like the Jedi are Top Trump cards where they all have stats or anything like that.
>>
>>84273362
Someone who's more knowledgeable when it comes to them should def do it!
>>
>>84273427
If anything, I think midichlorians were almost an effective device to show how far gone the Jedi Order was. They were more concerned about a reading from a blood exam and following a three-line ancient prophecy than preserving the balance of the force and keeping order in the galaxy.
>>
>>84265921
Before you play through KOTOR 2 (or afterwards), make sure you read http://lparchive.org/Knights-of-the-Old-Republic-II/

In fact, reading it may actually be more fun than playing the game. It's that good. It'll convince you that KOTOR2 is secretly the best written game to come out since Neverwinter Nights 2.
>>
>>84273496
And bam, you bring us to the second half of this which is "Why would George include the Midichlorian-checking in the first place?"

You are absolutely 100% right. Some people might just say it was so Lucas could rush up an excuse to have Qui-Gon know about Anakin was strong in the Force, perhaps enough to be some prophecy kid. But if Lucas just wanted that, he could have easily gotten away with Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan just sensing it.

We KNOW from Luke that you don't need to pass blood tests, or train from a kid, to be able to be a successful Jedi. It's the dramatic irony to older fans that we know the Jedi are WRONG in their methods here. They've fallen lazy. Hell, thinking back on Obi-Wan's dialogue in ANH, we know Windu and Yoda not wanting Anakin trained is a mistake because we know Anakin becomes a great Jedi. The entire point of the methods of the Jedi we see, pretty much throughout the ENTIRE Prequel Trilogy, was to show how mistaken and vulnerable they actually were. Pretty much every decision the Jedi make is a mistake that leads them closer and closer into Sheev's hands.

(Retroactively, if you're watching in Chronological Order, you get to see Luke prove Yoda wrong, and have Yoda get the realization that Luke IS the Return of the Jedi. Works great both ways, bravo Lucas, poetry/10)

We were supposed to see this as the earliest seeds of the Jedi Council being weak and vulnerable to corruption. There was also the very on-the-nose introduction of Sheev, so we know who will be doing the corrupting. All of that was absolutely intentional, and planted the seeds for us fans to pick apart. But instead most everybody hated the very concept of the Midichlorians and sadly all the effort from Lucas was lost on the fans.
>>
>>84272925
Because you're stronger by the time you fight him. That's just how all western RPGs work (as well as older JRPGS, but never mind that) At the start of the game you're a weakling who can be bested by a sickly old woman or her pet mouse and yet at the end of such a game you eat planets and shit out moons. So yeah, late game bosses that don't have a RPG mechanic-ignoring gimmick just can't challenge you anymore at that point.
>>
>>84273246
I think we should just forget about midichlorians because they're never gonna pop up again and ultimately don't matter.
>>
Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to be at the future filmmaker discussion. I think that basically confirms Han Solo news. I hope we get less original trilogy and more Smuggler's Run. Han was such a bastard in that, first time I've liked the character

https://youtu.be/6Ymc_5dake0?t=2m20s

Juhani wasn't an interesting character. Nothing about her stands out to me.

Bastilla was alright, but one dimensional, and falls prey to the Bioware style of writing romance.

Canderous was cool. Not because he's a Mandalorian, but because he is one of the few members of the crew who has their opinion change over time.

Mission was fun, Zaalbar was not.

Jolee was everyone's favorite old crotchety Jedi, I enjoy his dialogue with Canderous. I often had them in a party together.

As much as I enjoy HK-47, I didn't have him my party often. It's true that has fun has his dialogue is along with his back story, he's pretty flat in KOTOR 1. I think he's way better written in KOTOR 2.

T3-M4 was just kind of there. I didn't really need to use him because I had his computer skills. But it's fun having an Astromech around.

I mean, I guess it is possible she made that Holocron as the Temple was attacked, and then meditated as she awaited her death?

I don't know, I think that kind of sucks, I hope this is just a slip-up and there is still a story to tell with her.

It is possibly just a slip-up, seeing as her being alive is an implication in a single comic issue that would go over the heads of most people. But it is also possible that this is her intended death after all. Someone ask Pablo.

>>84274912
Poe was initially ongoing, although some websites have since started listing it as only 5 issues long. I'm honestly not sure how long the comic can be, considering it was just supposed to be about the mission he took prior to TFA. So unless they jump ahead to a post-TFA story...

Han is confirmed 5 issues long.

Vader ends at the end of the current Story arc.

>>84277535
It's just an excuse to avoid having a character die. Lots of people in this general got the headcanon that Shaak Ti could have died literally any way, since there were at least three "deaths" for her that never stuck. Now that she is apparently confirmed to have died in the second of the three manners, that takes away the possibility of the third death that had a whole story behind it. Some people just can't let go of possibilities.

Sweet Sheevus Christ, my local store was clearancing out the lego aisle. I snagged the Emperor's Throne Room set for 28 bucks. They also had the Stormtrooper transport with the four Stormtrooper figs for $3.25 each and had about seven boxes, so I army built a bit.

They also had the First Order Transport and Special Forces TIE Fighter for 32 bucks apiece, but I didn't. The only fig I wanted was Phasma, but they had deals on non-Star Wars stuff I won't go into.

Shit, go in for milk and eggs, end up leaving the store feeling like a damn kid. Now I want to buy the Lego Freemaker sets and combine them.

I see we're of the relatively similar mind. While learning in the Clone Wars would no doubt give you a greater martial advantage over learners in peacetime, the greater complication of danger(and even death) is almost certain. Adventure and excitement
is pretty much a given, as well.

For you Beforers, would you rather be a learner in the Valorum or Palpatine years(before the Clone Wars, obviously)? In retrospect, this one is probably a foregone conclusion, but the divide is interesting. For reference, if you choose Valorum, your tenure will be much more traditional and in line with how an Apprenticeship will typically go, with one or two planetary disputes to settle. If you choose Palpatine, there'll be a little more of the same, though you'll probably come upon one or two random Sith conspiracies and end up having to play a larger negotiators role when the Separatist Crisis hits. There will probably also be more thwarting of intergalactic corporate entities trying to collect on dubiously legal affairs.

The planet was converted. In fact the planet was MAGICAL and that's why it was converted. The FO has solved the energy crisis forever with their harnessing Quintessence or Dark Energy and the crystals in the surface of the Starkiller Base planet just happen to resonate perfectly. So they mined out the planet and turned the whole thing into a weapon.

Fun fact, but the presence of the magical crystals in the surface makes people think it is Ilum, or that when people talk about the crystals they think the person is talking about Ilum. The snow obviously helps in the confusion. Nope, totally different magic crystal planet.

Of course NONE of that is in the movie, it's in the Visual Dictionary and probably the novelization. Didn't read the novel.

I still think it's pretty BS that if you don't make Knight they kick you out of the Order. There are so many jobs that would be perfect for a less than perfect Padawan. They don't have any artists or musicians. I mean imagine painting with the Force as your guide? Or philosophers? You may have a shit midi-chlorian count but surely you can philosophize. Or historians? But even their librarian is a badass ex-member of the Jedi Council.

>>84279611
So I'd happily get my training, not take the knighthood tests and leave.

(I know that canon says that if you don't make knight they make you leave -- but I don't believe that statement. We NEVER hear about all the Padawans forced to leave the order getting into shit. That absence speaks volumes. Either it isn't happening, or Kit Fisto is hunting down Padawans on the sly for sport.)

Not sure about Canon, but in the EU, you could stay at the Temple and do other jobs.

I remember a Jedi called Hestizo in Red Harvest who failed her trials, so she just became a gardener, and uses the Force to help the plants grow and shit.

And now that I think about it, there was the Jedi doctors seen in Season 6 of TCW, and Jocasta Nu is a librarian, so maybe there are jobs you can do if you don't become a Knight.

Possible spoilers obviously:
"The strange part is that in concept art glimpsed around the location, suddenly Ahch-To has a binary sunset while Luke meditates. I’m thinking the concept art is implying that Luke sees this when in a meditative state because if the planet had two suns it would be a lot hotter than it is. Perhaps mentally going back to the twin suns of Tatooine centers the old Jedi?"

The old one had that. It even had Coleman (that dinosaur dude Jango shot in the face) as more a statesman kind of sedate dude that hadn't used a saber offensively in ages but answered the call when Mace needed every Jedi he could muster.

Still they have to do something with people. I mean what do they do with those students who have an aptitude for the Force yet show signs of the Dark Side unbefitting a Jedi Knight? Like Anakin could have been time and time again.

>>84279680
The Anakin and Obi-Wan comic had a bit about Anakin wanting to leave and find himself. While Yoda pointed out that no one can be taught Jedi Ways that aren't a Jedi Obi-Wan was prepared to leave to remain with Anakin and, presumably, teaching him anyway outside of the organization. I thought that was curious. There's a whole slew of What-Ifs there! Most of them probably not very interesting, but definitely some potential

Rig Neema is a Jedi, and presumably they won't let you be a doctor if you don't graduate. At least I assume they don't say, "Sorry you failed your trials. Hey, we need someone to check Yoda for anal polyps, think you'd be any good at that?"

http://www.starwars.com/databank/rig-nema

Also of interest, her design is actually based on proto Mace Windu, before Jackson was cast. If the file name is to be believed it was also envisioned as a Dark Sider. Iain McCaig's work, too. I'm glad he's still working on the movies, and I hope he's less hamstrung as he appeared to be under JJ.

I also love how Filoni loves grabbing old concept art and reusing it, whether it's Talzin derived from Darth Maul concept art or Fifth Brother from a Knight of Ren.

Wilhuff Tarkin was born into the wealthy Tarkin family on a hostile wilderness planet known as Eriadu. The Tarkins helped settle Eriadu and form a military. Wilhuff took these history lessons to heart and his parents made sure that he knew that respect, discipline and obedience were of the utmost importance. He was taught combat and aerial skills and how to survive at a young age.

During his time in the military, Wilhuff decoded the pattern in the Q'anah's Marauders attacks, Tarkin captured their ship, launching it on a slow course into a sun. Any ships sent to rescue the crew were destroyed on sight. At the age of nineteen Wilhuff began designing his own ships.

Tarkin attended the Sullust Sector Spacefarers Academy where he met Sheev Palpatine. Palpatine offered to help him secure a place in the Republic's Judicial Academy, but asked him to consider a career in politics. Tarkin turned down the request for politics, but took the spot at the Academy.

After a mission to the world Halcyon alongside a group of Jedi Willhuff Tarkin's skills and leadership brought the group to safety after their leader disobeyed direct orders. When they arrived the Jedi had just completed the mission. Tarkin was credited with saving their lives. As he continued to build a name for himself, Tarkin saw that conflicts throughout the galaxy were increasing, and turned his mind to Palpatine's advice to enter politics.

After hunting down the thieves who stole his ship, The Carrion Spike, Wilhuff Tarkin is promoted to Grand Moff by Palpatine and becomes the overseer of the Empire's newest weapon, The Death Star.

The Carrion Spike monkey story at least serves a purpose in that it shows us where the beginning of Tarkin's use of fear as a weapon came from (even if it is way too long and overly detailed), but the random detours to discuss Eriadu's history are the worst.

Hey, that's what happened with Vader and Sheev, and the Empire post-RotJ.

Poetry.

Thankfully the book wasn't very long. It was nice to get more Tarkin, but it definitely was a dreary read with a lot of pace-breaking flashback chapters.

I liked them, but I completely understand why I would be in the minority there.

The biggest problem with them as that he drops them just as the book is building momentum. It destroys it each time, so the book's pacing is horrible.

I genuinely am wondering if its too late to replace him or cancel the 3rd book entirely.

Is that possible if this book doesn't sell enough? Either way there is no way they are giving him more work after this trilogy, right?

Be a Padawan. Sure you'll be a super cool Jedi Knight one day and have all kinds of really awesome adventures and even the fate of the galaxy will one day rest on your shoulders!

Then your Master comes up and tells you you failed your trials, but hey that's okay there just happens to be a new position open for cashier at the Jedi Temple gift shoppe.

One day you see all your friends who of course are all Jedi Knights now. They wave at you and it's nice to know they still care...until you realize they're trying to mind trick you. You testily shout that that doesn't work on you, that you still have the Force as your price guide, dammit, but too late you realize while you were distracted one of them TK'ed your trousers around your ankles. Right in front of this female Padawan you had a crush on for years.

On that day you leave the Temple behind, take to the stars, find a world of original red Sith species, then descend upon it like a one-person Mandalorian warband. You conquer the planet, break it, and then tame it with your penis until the original Red Sith genes are nearly extinct. Then and only then do you rise with your new followers to the stars and conquer the galaxy. And just when you are about to bend the Jedi Council over your knee, that's when your Apprentice uses the Force to pull down your trousers and then cuts your head off as everyone laughs at you.

Filoni said they were actually one being that split its consciousness after eons as a ghost. Would fit it being a singular shaman, then.

Does anyone have that awesome fanfic about a Jedi Service Corps guy who gets attacked by bandits or something?

Did another story called "Korriban Nights" I THINK.

Considering it's being released in one week, yes. They are probably all printed and being shipped out to stores right now.

Empire's End is already being written or may be even done already. It's too late for them to change him out for the third book, or just cancel it entirely.

>you'd think being a Librarian who WAS a Council Member means she'd be perfect to tend it as well.
Maybe the Restricted Section had been declared 'extra hot' due to the imbalance in the force, and they were keeping former council members in the dark in regards to it?
The only ones we saw discussing it were Yoda and Windu, in very hush-hush terms. I think the Council was keeping it close to the chest.

Not sure. Reviews haven't been good but I'm assuming Aftermath sold well, not necessarily because of Wendig but because it was the biggest of the Force Friday books and as the first book of the new post-ROTJ era, it was a major step in the new canon.

We'll see how well Life Debt sells now that it doesn't have the same hype to push it and people are now aware of what they're getting when they see "Chuck Wendig" on the cover.

I actually prefer the Priestesses as a fractured persona, each living their own independent life. But that said I'm sure Filoni only said that's how he envisioned them, so it's a kind of not-very-firm word of god. He's done that before when talking about Mortis, saying the way to approach it for the writers was he said to think of it like a Force vision.

Anyway I don't think what he said is absolute canon. We can argue it, but I think he's just giving his take on it instead of saying what the canon is because despite how high up he was in the project the word of god was still George's so I think that's why he offers his take but doesn't say that is exactly how it was.

I'm not trying to nitpick or argue, this is just something that popped into my head when I was reading the thread and thought it worth saying. There's obviously a lot Filoni CAN say about the canon, but the big questions about the nature of the Priestesses or Mortis he seems much more careful. I could be wrong! I just always saw him as avoiding saying definitively because TCWs was still George's baby.

I'm curious what others thing.

Since he somehow got the writing credit for the TFA comic adaptation, I don't think they do, at least not yet. Hopefully Life Debt and Empire's End sell poorly enough that they realize how bad of a writer he is.

Okay, you have a choice between Scott Ciencin and Ryder Windham.

That's very likely the answer. They definitely upped security in the Temple and even had clone troopers and war machines! That honestly shocked me in the temple bombing arc. I mean it made sense given they were generals but just the notion that they had weapons of war inside their sacred temple... It's weird. Sure they have laser swords but those are supposed to be weapons of keeping the peace, right?

One of those things that made it easier to sympathize with Barriss, or at least understand what might have set her off.

Jedi are Jedi KNIGHTS, they've always been a martial order.

All Jedi Padawans receive full weapons and vehicle training. You think a starfighter isn't a weapon of war?

Tarkin's being commended by the Emperor on a successful raid of Rebel base when he gets a call from Eriadu. He hasn't gotten an communication from there in decades, so he takes the call in his private quarters.
Turns out it's a message from his cousin, who tells him his Aunt's on her death bed an if he wants to see her, he should come quickly.
Tarkin's Aunt was an inspiration to him growing up and was proud of his quick rise through the ranks in the days of the Republic but disagrees with the Galactic Empire. She's also an alcoholic and a drug addict, so there's this mutual embarrassment on Tarkin's part where he a) ashamed of his Aunt's addiction and hopes nobody important in the Empire finds out and b) is ashamed that he's letting her down by working for the Empire.
He resolves that he should see her before she dies but doesn't have time to make plans right away.
Sheev presents him with another mission, to inspect a potential new source of kyber crystals on an Mid Rim world which shouldn't take too long. He hesitates briefly, but dutifully accepts.
When they get there, things go smoothly for the first few hours until their research base falls under blaster fire. Initially, Tarkin suspects rebels but there's no report of Rebel activity anywhere near this sector. A group of stormtroopers are sent out inspect the forest the fire came from and return a few hours later.
As they're being let through, they kill the troopers at the gates and a couple dozens Clone troopers storm the station.

The clones had been dropped onto the planet right at the end of the Clone Wars, Black Ops style, in order to foil a seperatist plot. They were camped in the dense forest, awaiting the signal to attack, but with Order 66, the death of the Separatist leadership and all the other chaos, it never came, and they had remained on the planet, thinking the Clone Wars raged on.
They attack Tarkin's base, thinking them Separatists and taking him and the other researchers hostage, refusing to believe what has happened in the intervening years.
The leader of the Clones is named Tally (so called because he tallies each kill on his armor), he's charismatic for a clone and has development something of a cult of personality among his men. When Tally uses the station's communication rig to contact Republic command and receives no response, he becomes violent and starts executing the researchers. When the clones begin to accept that the War has been over for years, some rebel against Tally, others take their own lives. As the situation unravels, Tarkin gains a clone called Buck's trust by swapping old Clone War stories and is able to send a distress signal out. DarkTroopers eventually storm the base, killing all the Clones including Tally and Buck.
As Tarkin returns to report to the Emperor, Sheev gives him a dressing down and expresses his disappointment. Tarkin contacts his cousin to arrange a visit to Eriadu but his Aunt has already died.
