Writing actual good romance is really hard, writing 'hot' scenes especially if it's something like girl/girl with it's socially fetishisized nature is easy.
truly good romances are long burn', and sometimes really subtle. it's a collection of 'moments' that show the characters becoming closer, or changing how they view each other, or how much one means to the other.
I remember that Glory comic with the super muscled lead did the romance aspect pretty well (I only realy read one issue that was story timed on here) it was nothing but scenes showing the other girl throughout her life getting older and how much an impact she'd made on the one girl just by them having met and become friends throughout her lifetime. No sex no real fap fuel but a bunch of scenes that you could see 'why' this character would love this other character.
The thing is that as the idea of lesbian relationships becomes more socially just a 'normal' part of life, the less 'kinky' the entire notion can be.The less kinky it is, the less lesbianism 'alone' can carry a story.
