When I was a kid/teen I used to be into spiderman but now there's too much to catch on.
Can someone tell me if Peter and Mary Jane broke up for good and if Gwen is dead, canonically I mean?

No. There is no "catching up" (I presume that's what you mean). It isn't one continuous story, it's hundreds of small stories about the same characters.
Gwen is still dead. Peter and MJ were broken up so that their marriage never happened.
There are constant jumping on points every couple months.

Peter and Mary Jane they broke up
then got back together but Mary Jane was stuck up
So they broke up again.
Peter dated Gwen
Until he dumped her ass and got with Mary Jane Again
Wormhole appeared,
Jane disappeared,
she came back,but was made of tears
A whole bunch of other crap happened, and then Peter tried to make a deal with Satan.
