I would add that it's one of the potential based ships, in that it has potential to be good given different circumstances happening in the story. There's a lot of those in Homestuck given the number of unique personalities and characters that never got to talk to each otherlike the all 4 of the main fucking characters in one place.

Why is that unrealistic? He seemed to get on with Roxy just fine when they had their lightning round, his main anxiety was Dirk and to a lesser extent John and Jade's reactions to his self discovery, he hasn't been nervous or weird around anyone else.
He literally explained in his conversation with Dirk how he's not sure how to broach talking to two of his friends, that's really it and pre-act seven he seemed fine hanging around with people.

Dave used to be a badass who directly steered events, and he wasn't afraid to interfere when someone started doing something he wasn't comfortable with. He was both a hero and eventually an experienced mentor.
After the retcon he's so fucking passive it hurts. He just sits there, content to let others decide his fate. He can barely muster up some very weak banter around Karkat and Rose. Dave's best, most actualizing moments, the moments where he proves his worth, are all before the retcon. Everything afterwards is a soap opera.

Evil Jane is a lot different from Clover. Evil Jane stabbed Karkat through the chest just to use him as an example for how her powers work. Clover just danced Karkat. Also yes Karkat has indeed cried before, but I don't think he's ever done it before because of someone he was fighting was messing with him.
Karkat basically acted like a child that was getting bullied, even though all Clover was doing was dancing around his attacks and dancing on top of him. Old Karkat would've been losing his shit and tearing his hair out in frustration.
Also Gamzee is a lot different from LE. LE is known as the "Angle of Death" in troll culture, he's not exactly someone you fuck around with. Most of the last parts of Homestuck were people setting up for the inevitable battle against him. Karkat should know how hard it's going to beat him.
As for the Gamzee situation, Karkat was blinded by rage that his former best friend would lay a hand on Terezi. Besides that, Karkat has handled a sober Gamzee before so he probably thought e had a good chance of doing something.

Not everyone knew of the whole angel of death connotation, it seemed to mostly be Sollux, Aradia and Vriska who knew of this concept, other than that Lord English was barely discussed by the trolls.

Yeah, a musical cue occurred but him being faced with hurting someone he's come to care about for the sake of defeating an enemy is a pretty big thing for him. Especially in juxtaposition with the fact that Dirk wouldn't harm his friends even if it was for the greater good.

The universe frog was mostly Jade's thing, it wasn't meant to be Dave's big moment. He was tangential in it's creation, Jade had the big moment of finding the final frog and her dialogue's with Kanaya, Dave never spoke about frog stuff to anyone but Jade.

Dave already surpassed Dirk. He fucking started out as already having surpassed Dirk just by being courageous and heroic and decent. Dave was already a hero in Act 5, and apparently he only regressed in Act 6 just so that we could have that stupid fucking scene.
I think part of the reason the ending felt so flat is because Dave, Dirk, John, and Roxy are the only ones we saw resolve their issues. With everyone else we saw the beginning and we saw their darkest hour, but then we never really saw them bounce back from it and become even better than they were at the start, which would have been satisfying.

He sounds like a different character entirely from his previous self with no meaningful in between. Post-retcon Karkat actually regresses as a character, given his goals and aspirations setup in his introduction and built up through the story are dropped due to supposed reasons we never see.
Such a major character dropping their driving goals isn't something that can be brushed off without showing how such a process happens. In addition, whatever process happened would have to be pretty damn impactful for such an eventuality, given Karkat was setup in a way that the exact opposite reaction should happen. He wouldn't get disillusioned to leadership he'd only fight harder to get people to work together whilst dealing with his own hangups so as to avoid conflict between those two processes. We see this in his owning up to the his prior shortcomings, the acceptance his influence had lead to the Cancer on the Kid's universe and his shortcomings in dealing with the trolls.
This is exactly where his character was left after murderstuck, he was at his lowest point in his character arc given much of the events were on his head. To have that whole build up of character development suddenly dropped, due to supposed developments off-screen, is nonsensical, which is what causes the disparity in how he talks and acts after the retcon. He acts much less like his defining character traits and personality would indicate he should and we have to just be okay with that? When it contradicts where his character was prior to the retcon and the supposed developments causing such an event happen off-screen? That's bullshit right there.

I invented a Homestuck theory to try to remedy the bleakness that most people interpret as the ending. In this theory the kids were "Supposed" to fight fight LE because fate, but because of retcons they sidestepped that and skipped along to their happy ending anyway while another them took care of the work.

The issue was less in him surpasing Dirk or Bro, but more so him accepting himself as a hero or acting hero given his skewed perception of what he considered heroic in light on Bro's, shall we say, antics. Dave tried to keep his cool persona on lock down when he was doing all these things that impacted on him, and in doing so couldn't properly face his hangups with things like the dead Daves or the negative aspects of fighting.
As such he had a crisis where he just flat out doesn't want to do either, despite him being highly capable in both areas and going through both for heroic reasons. This comes to a culmination in the Collide fight in that he has to willingly accept that burden of acting in a heroic manner that will both harm him and someone close to him who he has issues with both personally given the crazy ubprining and mortality wise given how much an impact Bro's death had on him.
Most of the moments between his bringing up issues with fighting and the Collide fight have him acting heroic reactively, just as Bro's training and Dave's personality in wanting to help those he's close to dictates should happen. He just had to accept that he is like that, he's not just doing it because Bro forced him to learn, he is the hero and that has it's hangups.
The key difference here is choice and acceptance of the negatives of being a hero. I feel this aspect of Dave's character arc was portrayed reasonably well, the big issues being that we didn't see much of any development for the issue on the meteor. But as has been stated, the meteor is where the characters personalities, trials and tribulations came to die.

But for that to happen the events leading to it have to both, be shown and be meaningful enough to set the character back in a negative path. No, it isn't inherently negative to have a character who experiences great strife or poor luck to not positively progress.
However, you have to be clear in showing how this happens when said character is one of the main characters in a story. Neither of these things happen in Karkat's case which is the big issue, he just suddenly acts and talks like some shell of his former self for reasons we don't get to actually see.
There's a huge disconnect there, given the character people liked was the boisterous and seemingly confident Karkat who covered up his personal insecurities by trying to get others to get along, who thought more with his heart than his head as a way to protect those close to him as he actually cared for them and their wellbeing. The Karkat who surfaced after the retcon was, as you said, a shell of his former self and that's not a positive thing when we don't see the actual lead up to it.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about the explanation for him getting caught being his nerves, given he's shown to be the most capable of all the kids in terms of both combat and reacting to bad situations given his efforts in the earlier parts of Act 6.
I'm more inclined to believe the idea that Dave and Terezi were able to avoid the worst of the potential attacks through a combination of their powers warning them, being more defensive and sheer luck. In addition, I also like to believe Dirk was focused on as the most dangerous of the three, thus given more attention and more likely to be injured whilst also playing into that role, leading to recklessness as he tried to be the big man who wins the fight for his team. But those are all speculation, it really all boils down to sprite combat shenanigans.

That's an issue with execution rather than a fundamental flaw in that anon's expected character arcs fulfillment. You kind of need to talk through or experience events that deal with the main character's issues throughout a story to provide a satisfying and well constructed ending.
Most exchanges in Homestuck, especially in Act 6, could be heavily cropped down and still retain their necessary narrative additions to the characters. Whilst it'd be against best interests for Hussie to do that too much given much of the value in Homestuck is in the interactions in these long exchanges, it isn't wrong to say they could have been handled in a much more succinct manner to ensure the main cast, not the secondary cast, got their minimum meaningful exposition to conclude their character arcs.
In addition, showing these moments with brief discussion afterwards would have worked for a number of these scenarios, the point is they really should have happened flat out, outside of the Dave/Dirk one which did happen eventually. Even just a page or two of Jane talking to a Nannasprite about her issues she's encountered over the duration of her screen time would have helped immensely in both fleshing out her character and developing her arc to a conclusion, however brief or minor.

Ultimately there are more popular works that are more popular for their writing than their visuals.
MSPA is actual proof of this, as arr Dinosaur Comics and XKCD, plus a fuckton of other webcomics, games, low budget films, etc. that work by script more than visual prowess.
Good visuals paired with writing take the words and convert them to a form that can be easily understood, and elevates the words.

Thanks, comrade. The payoff for Tavros's arc was in all ways a consolation prize and it will never make every single thing he went through worth it.
His return to the shadows to make way for Meenah's asshole speech and Vriska's utter and nonsensical triumph soured the deal some more, but... meh, I'll still take it. Could've been worse, judging by what happened to his post-retcon self.
I'm pretty sure he'll at least be implied to be happy and far away from Vriska in the epilogue. The years have lowered my standards; that's all I want.
