I accepted retconned Dave enjoys having alien cock up his ass. I accepted he loves Karkat's bulge so much, his only source of nutrition on the whole meteor trip was from the genetic material fed to him through daily blowjobs. I have accepted that Dave is a faggot, and that he is proud of it. He is free to wear a rainbow flag around his waist while Karkat frots with him. They are free to make out while reading Hunk Rump magazine. They are free to 69 each other in fulfillment of Karkat's symbol. I have accepted Dave will never be with Jade, since she does not have alien balls to suck on. Dave is the epitome of homosexuality, and that I can agree that is canon.

Ehhh, to me it's less a matter of "letting the abuser get away shits on abuse victims!!!" (wrong) and more a problem I have with Hussie handling abuse in a really unrealistic way. It shows he either knows nothing or doesn't care about the subject as more than a drama/audience reaction machine.
IMO the eerie and unrealistic way no one reacted to Vriska's abusive behavior after Act 5, and the equally creepy way Rose's alcoholism was handled, belong to the same category of bad, lazy treatment of sensitive real life topics.
I wouldn't have minded if there was a point to these things in the end but it wasn't the case. Which kind of sucks.

They all have one big defining personality trait that is a joke in some form, some are less blatant than others but all of them are satirical in nature. In addition, many of the trolls who had oodles of screen time are still considered joke characters, the dancestors would likely end up just like they did or even worse given they have even less ties to the actual main characters and primary plot lines the readers are connected with.
As for them not being similar, that's just willful ignorance. Whilst they're not 1 for 1 with their counter-parts the dancestors share personality traits with their counterparts across the board, just melded to fit with some joke stereotype like the greaser Cronus. Cronus is still completely hopeless with romance, just like Eridan is, he's still creepy and full of himself like Eirdan is. Those are the main features of Eridan that were put across to the reader, and he shares them with Cronus. You can easily find the links going through all the matchups, the Pyropes trying to be 2cool4school to hide their insecurities, the Vantases with being sensitive and ranting, the Zahaks being creepy, horse themed fetishists, the Leijons being deviantart tier fangirls etc.

Well the way to handle character to bloat is to not bloat in the first place, so trying to inject a bunch of characters that are similar both in design and somewhat in character to the initial injection of trolls in Act 5 is never going to work. Though I do fully support the notion that a large number of characters can be handled if they're clearly utilized as secondary or tertiary characters, which Hussie failed spectacularly at from Act 5 onward.

The coins link pairs of Felt members. Some are relevant pairings, others don't make much sense. Die and Stitch have a similar power, with their destructive/healing voodoo doll and effigies. Doze and Eggs make a pair of morons with a funny duo name (dozen eggs!) Itchy runs around so fast he probably starts fires sometimes, while Matchsticks puts them out.

What I don't get is, Andrew wanted Vriska to be the MAJOR CONTROVERSIAL CHARACTER and succeeded for like, most of Act 5 and part of Act 6. Back then you even had a few people defending her as a person.
But now literally no reader sincerely considers her even vaguely decent, and like 99% of the fanbase has gotten sick of her.
Seriously. I know one "yeah Vriska is my trash fave" fan and another "Vriska is just misunderstood and needs support" fan/stan and they were BOTH dead tired of it all by the end of the comic.

The secret to our peace is that all the really insufferable parts of HSG moved to Serketchan, particularly the tripfag circlejerking, and the worst posters we had went with it. We're honestly better off this way, but I do agree that a pinch of the magic that made HSG special is owed to what made it terrible. The Midnight Crew and the Felt have even less to do with actual crime drama than Problem Sleuth did with actual sleuthing. We know that Exiles are supposed to rebuild civilization on the host planet, but as far as we've seen they really just sort of exist there.
