Anyway, the Russos lifted the Wanda sub-plot from the 1970's/80's Avengers comics, the stuff such as Cap destroying the Wanda hatemail and the Avengers mansion being attacked due to Wanda, then her and Vision's home being blown up.
Ironically its a more faithful adaptation of the mutant hate stuff than the X-Men movies.

She didn't have any idea what would happen. She had no idea about anything, really. She endured HYDRA experiments because she likely was confident she would survive, and she did so in the hope she could save her country, Tony distracted her mind from that with disastrous results.
Wanda had never had any power over anything and had no concept of having any effect on anything, and that was compounded by being self-absorbed in her own little world, and her knowledge of Tony was based on what her countryfolk thought, not on actual facts. She thought it would only affect Tony. What she learnt after some thought, was that she was wrong. Like Thor's fuck-up with the Ice Giants, it was actuon with little thought of consequence.Anyhow, her arc is probably building to her NOT retaliating or lashing out against Thanos when he rips Vision's stone out. The ultimate test of her will to resist her emotions, even as Thanos stupidly goads her. She has to let him win, because if she reacts as she did when Pietro died, she'll fuck the entire universe by destroying the stones, so the only good option is to let Thanos win and wipe out half of all life.
