It's coming guys... It's coming...
Will it be passable.
It'll probably be faithul, but I have no nostalgia for the books even though I read them as a kid like everyone else. I understand why it exists and that kids like it but it's pretty juvenile and I don't think they'll be much here for adults to latch onto, and I say this as someone who watches kids shows all the time.
I would love to see this if it was Live-action.
>>84006445
>dreamworks face
Are they doing this on purpose now?
>>84006522
Personally, I'm just happy for kids to enjoy something I liked as a kid. I probably won't see it myself or judge it on its ability to hide Le Adult Jokes or whatever, but I hope it is good for its intended audience.
From the poster it does look like they're going for a less-realistically shaded 3D, which I'm happy about.
>>84008419
It's Dreamworks so no, it won't be.
Someone post the fucking image and get it over with
>>84008465
Oh, I'm sure they'll be adult jokes in this thing, but I was talking more about the general concept and tone - if they can nail the Phil Lord and Chris Miller "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" style of breezy postmodern wacky then it might have a shot at being watchable but the fact that the presence of lots of scatalogical humor is inevitable really limits its appeal to my personal taste. But I'm not 7 years old
I was too old for these books when they came out. Shit, I only found out through team trivia that the main character is a school principal. I really thought he was a baby based on the artwork.
Are the stories just stupid crap like fighting booger monsters and fart men? What does Captain Underpants actually do? If the books were written for an older audience, would he be fighting with his boner and other gross shit? I'm just curious what the world is in for with this.
>>84009024
If you insist
>>84009213
The whole thing is in a meta framework, Captain Underpants is a comic within in the book written by a couple of elementary schoolers (who are the actual main characters). But the line between reality and fantasy is often crossed or ambiguous (like Rugrats or what have you).
>>84009214
I'm confused. Explain?
>>84009311
Harold becomes a nu male.
>>84009330
The fuck does that even mean?
>>84006445
Passable like gas, maybe.
>>84009342
It means use google you cunt.
>>84009311
People got upset when it was revealed that Harold married a man in the 12th book. As such, it gets brought every time the series is mentioned on this board.
>>84009311
Howard finds out why he enjoys drawing the principal in his underwear so much.
>>84009214
Daily reminder that EVERYTHING you love is gay. Don't fight it.
>>84009311
I think normal George and Harold went into the future for some reason to see yesterday's George and Harold's future, which is some parallel dimension version of themselves.
>>84009213
captain underpants himself is a fictional character within the book, it is a comic written by the two main characters
i cant remember what his powers were exactly but i think they had something to do with his elastic waistband
the "real" captain underpants is their mean school principal hypnotized into believing he is the character captain underpants
he does not have any superpowers
>>84009214
The last one I read was the 6th or 7th.
What the fuck.
>>84009490
The principal did eventually get superpowers.
>>84009213
What the last guy said except some sort of ridiculous comicish supervillain threatens the "real" world once per book so it's up to the kids to hypnotize the principal into Pantsing up and saving the day.
>>84009490
>he does not have any superpowers
Only for the first 2 books. The villains of the third were alien invaders posing as lunch ladies. The kid sneak aboard their ship and find a beaker literally labelled, I shit you not, "Super Power Juice".
From then onwards Cap's a bonafied superhero. Basic flying brick set. The tagline that the kids use in each of their comics is "stronger than starched boxers, faster than an elastic waistband, and able to jump over tall buildings without getting a wedgie".
>>84009402
Everything that involves artistic merit is, duh. For example- Maurice Sendak (best known for 'Where the Wild Things Are) was also homosexual.
>>84006445
>Wonder Woman was the only DCEU movie I was at all interested in seeing
>mfw I heard this was releasing the same weekend
Sorry Di. Maybe if you get a sequel.
>>84009551
Was it the one about the Boogers or the one about the Purple Porto-Potty?
>>84009024
Fuck you.
>>84006445
I'm really hoping that it will be better film than what they did with Home.
>>84009836
I vaguely remember time travel. At least on the final page. The "uh oh, here we go again" was them getting sucked into a wormhole. And there was a baby pterodactyl I think?
I remember the the first one I didn't read having "evil" versions of Cap & the kids on the cover. I figure it was some parallel universe story.
>Boogers
The nerdy kid got transformed into a monster right? I'm not sure if I'm thinking or that PPG episode about the paste-eater.
If they're basing it off the books the first book has little to no action. Just expo on the hypno ring and the rushed subplot of a midget in a diaper (Which by today's standards isn't PC)
>>84010269
They could mix the first book and have the villain be professor poopypants, but no one is gonna take that name seriously. Then again, that is the point.
>>84010269
Professor Poopypants is going to be in the movie too. Since they already announced his voice actor.
>>84009351
I was thinking more like a kidney stone
>>84009214
Maybe Pilkey made Harold gay to take the focus away from George making sweeeeeet love to a white girl.

It will be faithful, but it won't be enjoyable because we aren't 4-10 years old anymore. The Captain Underpants books are fun but incredibly dumb, and I can't imagine a 90 minute movie would be easy to sit through. I'll still probably see it out of curiosity, but my expectations aren't very high at all.

>>84009311
Ok so, at this point in the series there are 2 sets of Harold and George running around because they used timetravel irresponsibly. One set of Harold and George time traveled into the future, leaving the others to live their lives normally. in the future the other Harold and George are a graphic novel artist/writer duo who are both married and have kids. But future Harold is married to a dude. What's interesting about this is that past George and Harold don't mention this at all and don't think it's weird at all, implying that Harold has always been gay or that they really don't give a fuck.
>>84012885

Well, goodie. That guarantees opening and ending narration, and a 2D segment, which are signs of a cliched, Assembly Line movie. I bet they won't even adapt the first book.

It won't.
