All the shapes are Adventure Time Candy Kingdom rejects and Lucky sounds like a generic person with no accent or personality besides being positive, because sells your character like being bland. Cereal mascots are no Optimus Prime levels of iconic but they are extremely recognizable and memorable characters. And they all have their distinct styles and quirks that we easily identify. I'm tired as fuck of this CalArts buzzword spam but this style is undeniably a giant cancer in animation. It's easy to say FPS colors suck when they are all muted and brown. Kirby is just colorful, even that game is quite toned down, Kirby 64 was more colorful and you took note of the few colors that dominated the backgrounds. It's really hard to really criticize the color overload when color correction advanced lighting wasn't really a thing then. The new Kirby game looks afraid of this change and is choosing to remain ignorant and not even making as big color statements as the older games.
