I don't know which is worse, this or the Clarence style.

I work in customer service and I have gotten compliments in writing to my bosses by telling woman how good they look. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with complimenting people. How many people have ever been approached by a stranger with a "Nice shirt" or something and actually been upset about it?
>>
>>83955724
Man, I do this shit all the time at work. If I see someone wearing a Superman shirt, TMNT shirt, or anything /co/ related, I'll tell them how cool their shirt is. It always makes them beam, unless they're some dude in their 40's who probably only got the shirt because they got it as a gift.

I love it when people say shit about my shirts, so I make sure to return the favor to others.

Oh good another comic that portrays shit that never happens.

I have been collecting comics for a solid 15 years at least and I have not once seen anyone at a con or a comic shop call a girl up on this "fake nerd" bullshit. It's the kind of venom I can see the gaming community pull but I haven't seen it in the comic book community.

That being said the conversation usually goes like this

>Oh hey cool Green Lantern shirt
>Thanks

And the girl version?

>Cool Green Lantern shirt
>Thanks

>>
>>83956106

>>
>>83956106
I just assume that everyone wearing a comic shirt doesn't actually read comics, they just like the character. However, it helps support the character and industry so they're cool in my book anyway. Sometimes it leads to interesting conversations, like the time I complimented a girl on her Man of Steel shirt and we got into a conversation about how much we loved it and BvS even though most everyone else didn't, but usually it's just a smile and a "thanks".

Who cares if they actually read Superman or not, they're wearing a Superman shirt so they've gotta be a bro.

That's the most casual shit you could ask, get down to the nitty gritty and ask what their opinion on Emerald Twilight was and how it changed the way Green Lantern was for 10 years and if they thought the sacrifice of Mosaic and Hal was worth it for Kyle becoming the sole GL, Guy getting his own bar and Alan getting more panel time. These are the real questions that need to be asked.

>implying for even a moment that a girl who liked video games or comics wouldn't have a minimum of 5 beta-orbiters kissing her ass at all times

The difference between tumblr comics and 4chan comics is that the 4chan comics are based on actual experiences. I would need to start using toes if I wanted to count how many guilds I was in were disbanded because of a girl and/or her round table of white knights.

Alright. Picture that Wolfenstein 3D came out in 1992. Six years later, Half Life came along and completely defined the modern FPS experience. Just picture how mindblowing that was at the time. For reference, in today's industry, in 6 years we've gone from Modern Warfare to Modern Warfare but with crafting and stealth segments.

Half Life 2 did the same sort of thing but on a lesser scale, it still introduced a bunch of new concepts that instantly became the new mainstream. Basically people want HL3 because they expect a similar sort of total revamp of everything.

I think the problem with this crowd is that they don't want to adapt to the world. Nor do they consciously defy it. By putting on a shirt with a symbol one sends a signal to the world. Anyone who doesn't want to send the signal should not put on a symbol. Or if nothing else accept the consequences of their choices.

It's like if I put a swastika T-shirt on and complain that people want to talk with me about race war.

Any girl could walk up to a millenial dude, tell them to punch themselves and they'll do it for fear of being seen as sexist.
>>
>>83958825
The point is it doesn't matter what is on the shirt or jacket. A superman shirt doesn't automatically means the person knows everything about the subject like a poor ass bitch from a the streets with a Gucci bag doesn't automatically means they are high brow.
>>
>>83955724
I had a Lenin shirt that had his face and one of his quotes on it: "To learn, to learn, to learn". One time when I came out of the bank wearing that, an old guy in his 60s looked at it and told me "hurrah!" as he walked past.

(this was in a former eastern bloc country)

That's the closest I've gotten to having my t-shirt complimented.
>>
It's hilarious when something's new art style is way shitter than the style that they were trying to get away from. The generic animu style of the previous Critical Miss artist was much more appealing.
>>
>>83958805
>>83958848
The idea is that people think someone who wears X shirt likes X so they try to talk about X only to be disappointed.

And it's not really any kind of secret club. Then again, why should I be excited about low-enthusiasm newbies in my hobbies? I accept they exist and I won't fight them, but you can't expect me to be enthusiastic about them.
>>
>>83958899
try it again, this time with a believeable example
>>
I once went to a concert with a t-shirt that I'd drawn "I'm with emo ->" on the back.
On the way to the concert I heard a female gasp behind me and something like "look, this guy doesn't like emos". On the way from the concert I had two guys come up to me like "duuuuude awesome t-shirt!". That was fun.

Another femanon here. People start conversations with me at the bus stop and coffeeshop all the time, but the overall context for anyone ever doing this is because the line is fucking long or the bus isn't going to be around for another thirty minutes.

People get bored and want someone to talk to so they aren't bored. Fuckers are taking it WAY too personally, and its rather fucking hilarious that they genuinely think it ever has anything to do with their looks. Bored people in boring places will try to do shit to make it less boring while they're forced to be there. Its not their fault that these artists interpret breathing in their presence as flirting.

I've absolutely seen it happen in real life. Not in an "oh what are your favorite arcs" way, but in a "prove you know what the fuck you're talking about" way.

It's a dying mindset, though, as you say:

>older guy

Newer nerds don't have quite as much "us vs. girls" baggage (aside people on 4chan and reddit) because liking nerd shit isn't quite the black mark of shame it used to be, so you're less likely to see overtly hostile behavior and more likely to see desperate fawning or kindly patronization.

wtf have they done to you erin?
>>
>>83955724
Well but it depends a lot on the way you compliment people. It's possible to give a lovely compliment that's genuinely just making someone feel good.

Then there's also the "compliments" that are actually attempts to start a flirtatious conversation and essentially demand time and attention from the person they're supposedly "complimenting", and also the "compliments" that are lewd or lascivious and hold a strong undertone of "I really want to fuck you and am thinking about it right now", which can make people feel gross and possibly threatened. Both of those can come with nasty insults if rebutted.

And also, I really hate being interrupted when I'm clearly stressed and working on something or really engrossed in something just because someone wanted my attention to tell me they think I look nice. I was concentrating on something and you broke my concentration and that's rude.

I've also had a tearful heart-to-heart over a friend going through their partner dying of cancer because some older dude wanted to butt in to our table and "compliment" us, and wouldn't you know it he got all huffy and rude when we asked him to kindly let us continue our private conversation.

So, you know. There's compliments and compliments

>Half Life came along and completely defined the modern FPS experience
No, that was Goldeneye.
Levels were no longer just mazes.
Multiple objectives.
Difficulty level didn't just make enemies harder.
Non-linear maps/levels.
Achievements that actually gave you something.

Goldeneye was a defining FPS that was popular and highly influential.

The next big thing was Quake 3, though Turok 2, Turok: Rage Wars, and Unreal did certain things first.

Weird things do happen at cons

I cosplayed as Solaire from Dark Souls just this weekend past

I got dozens of people just asking for my picture but there were definitely a few weirdos who I could see doing stuff like asking a girl wearing a shirt to prove her knowledge

One greasy looking fellow with a ponytail came up to me and just started quoting The Knights Who Say Ni bit from Monty Python. Like he started following me around and stuff while saying "Ni" over and over.

I eventually said "Ah, you've got the wrong franchise man" and he just looked me dead in the eyes, scowled, and stormed off. No idea what that was about.
