New covenant Christianity is a very rules light system. There is little for Christians to be fundamentalist about. The apostles said a few bad things about gays and their rewards in heaven, but the whole system of earthly laws and punishments from Judaism pretty much collapsed.
Catholicism has had earthly laws and punishments, but Catholicism can and has changed because the pope and the church have the authority to update doctrine.
Islam has doctrine (Fiqh) from the first couple of centuries which simply can not be changed, on punishment of death (it's apostasy). All Sunnis can do is ignore it, but they are not allowed to repudiate it. Which is why they always slide back into barbarism.
