Why did the Simpsons comics stay good for longer than the cartoon?

Do you guys think the writers should start adapting stories from the comics? Or have they done that already?
The average episode of the Simpsons has less than 2 weeks to get preproduction completed before they can animate. That means writing, boarding and designing all done in a little over 10 days. I'm guessing the time constraints on the comic aren't as harsh.
On a related note, what woulr be a better successor to this, Platinum Game's The Simpsons, or Dynasty Warriors Springfield?

Dynasty Warriors Springfield would probably end up better than something Platinum would do. Platinum makes really boring licensed games.
