In spite of its flaws, Steven Universe is a show that deserves credit for its underlying message. In a world growing angrier, bitterer, and preoccupied with cynicism and entitlement, this show not only addresses human imperfections but embraces them.

Not every episode of this show is a standout, as captivating or engaging as some are. But messages of love, perseverance, forgiveness et cetera are always nice to see.

Children in their formative years are impressionable by design. It's how we as a species learn to adapt as our greatest strength.

Besides, there's a reason why retards are often described to have the minds of children. Get it together, anon.

Did you not? When you're five, you don't have a nuanced ethical and sociological framework for you to act on. You have what you've seen. And what you've seen up to that point has been your parents, who are weird big and kind of alien, and cartoons which are specifically designed to be relatable to.

Personally, I didn't watch many cartoons growing up, but I do remember comparing myself and my circumstances to the books I had read when I wasn't quite comfortable with the kids around me those first couple of years, and trying to figure out how I should interact with them.

>there's a reason why retards are often described to have the minds of children.
And autists are described as being obsessed. That's what separates the healthy kids from the kid that kept making Sonic OCs late into his adolescence. Because they learn to adapt to various things, not just one.

Otherwise, that popular theory from the 90s about video games turning children violent would've been proven true.

>>83913807
>Did you not?
If I did, it never did stick. I guess, I quickly realized how school wasn't like those on TV. Or that I would never go to the Digiworld.

Cartoons for my schoolmates and I were a topic of conversation more than anything. Even back then, we all knew TaiSora was the obvious ship.
>>
>>83913599
I used to watch Sesame Street when I was a kid, it taught me a lot actually.

I know it's technically not a cartoon, but it's the quintessential "show that teaches kids something". The producers used techniques proven to make kids learn subconciously while having fun. The show's mere existence is the proof that children can learn something from cartoons and other shows aimed at them.

We are currently living in times reminiscent of pre war times. Ie, economy going down the shitter, prejudices getting stronger, and a stronger disillusionment in government, as well as escalating tensions in the world at large.

It's a net negative to teach the generation growing up in this world to be held back by emotions. They're going to end up being as fucked up as the bits during the world wars, where a very childish culture got a culture shock of what war is like.

If anything, we should be teaching the strength of discipline and tactical cleverness and the unity of a disenfranchised underclass via camraderie in hardship, and strong morals that rewards the good and punishes the bad to prepare for the inevitable clash of cultures.

The world is turning rotten and the places that need to be the strongest aren't preparing for ot, but rather, sheltering themselves in tolerance and apathy that's divorced from politics and melts into everyday life.

So basically I think Steven universe gives a message that, while kind and true, is probably not the kind of message we should be teaching children collectively in this current time.

Wimps don't win, kids. And winners get to live.

Yeah, considering trained armies couldn't get past the vietcong, a bunch of farmers hiding in trees and laying out traps, I doubt a bunch of disposable toy helicopters will fare any better.

Also the deal is that America has a bunch of treaties where they essentially have to send soldiers into countries to defend them, that's kind of what being an ally is, so people drafted will probably die defending another country outright.

Tbqh senpai I'd be scared as shit of the draft considering how many technological innovations we've made since the last world war, let alone the last war. Seriously, there's shit being used in foreign armies that make the chemical warfare and tanks of world War 1 look like baby toys.

The fact is that the boon from ww2 is running out and we're gonna need another one to fuel the economy for the next couple of years.

One, the advent of mass nuclear proliferation has pretty much made as World War style mass casualty conflict impossible. If things ever got bad enough that major powers are going to any length to wipe each other out, there won't be any Normandy's or Gallipoli's, just a short nuclear exchange that no one's going to survive.

Two, political circumstances and technological breakthroughs have gone well past the point that a draft is pretty much never coming back in any first world nation, since as time goes on armies need more in the ways of technical experts to operate advanced machinery and less expendable cannon fodder.

I'm not saying your outlooks are necessarily wrong, but your specific fears of some kind of World War II scale mass combat slaughterhouse are completely delusional. If World War III ever breaks out between major powers, it'll last a day at most and no one will actually live through it.

SU is a great show, and all of the major issues I have with it are totally subjective. (One of those would probably be how it's mostly influenced by anime and other media as opposed to mostly coming from a real-world cultural inspiration. Not sure if it's a matter of ethics, but one very specific example of a life lesson I really took from a cartoon was from the Simpson's episode Moaning Lisa. It basically left me with the lesson that it is okay for people to be sad sometimes and not always best to just pretend to be happy when you're not. This is something that I think many aspects of my real life like the opinions of my family actually contradict.

Steven Universe is Sugar's bad Revolutionary Girl Utena fanfiction. She fails to understand what makes Utena's characters so likable and human, and thinks all she needs is have the characters randomly breakdown and start crying and say that's characters development.

The Simpsons has been cited by Sugar to be a major influence on the show and a few other crew members (Like Steven Sugar and Ian) are also fans: She also that "Don't Cry for Me, I'm already dead" comic https://dawolfey.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/dont-cry-for-me-im-already-dead-by-rebecca-sugar/

If the mark of quality in a cartoon show is simply in its value of it's moral and it's ability to stick a message they would be universally agreed that Steve's universe is the best cartoon in years. Stuff like writing well written characters, interesting story lines or a even the quality of the actual animation and art in and of it's self would be a total nonissue to people.

Only a fool embraces his imperfections, as this makes him complacent and accepting of his lot in life instead of fighting to better it. A true human strives to go beyond his limits and inadequacies or adapt to them, so he succeeds regardless.

If you want a show that gives a truly positive message, go watch One Punch Man, where even the weakest hero on the show decides to fight on for the sake of being better than he actually is.

Fuck embracing imperfections, defy and grow above them, that is what makes humans the greatest animal that has ever lived.

Children are fucking sponges for knowledge, man. They're learning by observation pretty much from the moment they're out of the womb and by exploration and questioning within two years. The messages the media they consume are things they take to heart and influence them for years, possibly for the rest of their lives. That's not "stupidity", that's how we're designed - to rapidly acquire the information we need in order to survive and function. There's no such thing as "raw entertainment", especially not for a child. If you can't understand that, maybe you're the one who's too dumb to learn anything.

How do you know if someone is a Steven Universe fan?

Don't worry, they'll tell you. It's literally impossible to get away from them. So here's my advice. On the very off-chance you run into one of these Steven Universe "fans" outside/in public(again, very off-chance), pull down their pants the moment they open their fat ugly mouths and spew their like of Steven Universe.

Why pull down their pants? Being Steven Universe fans, hygiene really isn't their 'thing"

The "women" will be free-bleeders, and the "male" fans won't wipe. Either way, you'll expose their disgusting nether regions to the public.

The town mob and subsequent public execution will take care of the issue by itself. Bonus points if one of them tries to run away but trips over their own leg fat.

I don't even think people would need a hard counter for nukes - just something that could mitigate the radiation. I know that's not how radiation works, that it's not like you can just mop it up and put it in a container and everything's hunky-dory - but if there was something that SEEMED to work like that (even if it didn't actually work like that), it'd probably be enough justification for a group to give serious thought to using nukes. It's something I worry about from time to time.

So Too Short To Ride is about Steven taking Peridot to Funland, she wins a stuffed alien but is too short to ride a ride. In response, she decides to build herself new limb enhancers.

She's either going to accept that she's short, or fuse with Steven. Slim possibility that Lapis fetches her old limb enhancers from the bottom of the sea.

>this show not only addresses human imperfections but embraces them.

That's nice, but this show lacks the creativity to offer convincing scenarios where those perceived weaknesses become strengths. What we end up with are endless barrage of convenient power ups, deux ex machina, and a hand of the creator that is all too obvious. There's no logic to any of Steven's achievements, and that makes them hollow no matter how admirable the underlying message is.

The world isn't getting angrier or more violent, it's the exact opposite.

It's the premise of the Dark Souls games, and the metaphor the games stand for.

In the beginning, the world was grey, but then a great fire was born and divided the grey in two. Those near the fire felt its power and grew strong from it, but those far from it became steeped in darkness by comparison.
But no fire lasts forever. No matter how much you cut down to keep it going.
Eventually the fire fades, and the world goes grey again.
