So it's settled then, that we can now call it a 'formulaic masterpiece'?
>>83846612
yes. No when I rewatch it (I've only seen it once) I need to substitute animal people for regular people and see if it holds up

So how many of you are actually furries?
>>83846788
>clawhausers face
>everything about that panel
>>83846662
>substitute animal people for regular people and see if it holds up
Sounds tough, how would that even work out?
>>83846612
i hate seeing this furry shit everywhere
>>83846904
I dunno. I feel like I'll still like it but when I saw it I definitely gave it too much credit simply for it featuring animal people. I'm just going to sub everyone else with made up human characters in my mind and see how it unfolds
>>83846612
>masterpiece
it's just shit. You don't want to admit it for some reason. Brand loyalty maybe
>>83846612
It's a masterpiece for sure, but even the formulaic aspects are meaningful and well executed. Even the inevitable indecent that drives the protagonists apart is believable and done in such a way that you can't help but side with Judy even in her ignorance.
>>83846969
I don't think that would really work, the race relations in Zootopia aren't really a 1 to 1 comparison with race relations in real life. The racial politics of the movie wouldn't make sense with real people.
>>83846612
>formulaic
This is a buzz word used by critics who do not comprehend that every story follows a three act formula since the dawn of time and sans for weird and rarely successful experiments by ambitious directors it's the only way to tell a story with a proper introduction, conflict and resolution right.
Notice that being OVERLY formulaic, doing nothing new and therefore being boring and absolutely predictable is a valid complaint, but Zootopia is far from that. Not many people who went in blind guessed that Nick is gonna end as a cop and the ending was far less romantic and more open than 90% of Disney movies that have both a man and a woman in leading roles.
>>83846662
You cannot substitute animals in Zootopia for humans and have it work perfectly. It's an animal world and the analogies tend to fall apart when you put humans in their place. That's why there are those few lower scores on RT than bring the movie down to 98%. Because idiots writing those reviews couldn't clearly substitute genders or minorities as either preds or prey and they claimed that the movie got lost in it's moral, while in reality it delivered it's moral superbly showing that EVERYONE, even the ones suffering from prejudice, can have prejudice of their own. The movie did not take any sides, but simply told us to at least try to get along. And that's what mace it good instead of trash PC propaganda.
Nice to see a Zootopia thread up tbqh. Been way too long without one.

Ah Zootopia.
The best cartoon animal movie about the coming race war.And how it was all manufactured by white people. And also how it will be averted by an adorable interracial couple.
So in the epilogue, Elba's read of Bogo's "Just kidding"...
It seemed way more light-hearted than all of his other sarcastic comments like "we have new recruits, who cares".
Do you think it was a jab solely at Hopps, since her first assignment was parking duty? Do you think it was also playing off Wilde's sarcastic greeting card comment? Do you think Bogo is less hard-ass now that Hopps and Wilde have proven themselves?
I'd be really interested to see where they take Bogo's personality and interaction with his officers in the inevitable distant sequel.
>>83847486
In that case... Have to be careful when posting this level of cute.
Hey you niggers. 3D learner faggot here with plenty of time to waste who has slightly intermediate knowledge of Blender and also a Judy Hopps rig with plenty of Photoshop experience.
Willing to make your non-lude poses of whatever you like in Blender with a 1 / 10 possibility of me beautifying it in Photoshop in a composite. For free. I remade this dank last night as testimony of my 30-minute powers (and don't blame me for the hairs on the eyelids - I didn't read the fur simulation script properly) Also, rendering can take a few hours.
>>83846811
This pic makes me want a Psych like show staring them so bad.
also some draw, if it hasn't been done before, Sean and Gus and Zoopotians.
>>83847521
>manufactured by a prey animal
>prey animals are more numerous
>the most numerous people are browns
>whites are slowly becoming the minority
Thank god, the cute interracial couple will be a white guy with a brown babe. I approve wholeheartedly.
>>83847596
From what I remember, Bogo and the rest of the division had their own sense of humour at the start, which is part of what made Judy feel so alienated on her first day. He gained respect for her and got to know her better by the time she returned her badge. By the end of the film where she was back on the force, he knew her well enough to adjust his delivery of jokes to accommodate her sense of humour and make her feel as welcome as the other officers.
That's my impression, anyway.
>>83846612
"formulatic"
there was no formula, those were random ingredients that somehow managed to work together after a serious shakedown.
>>83847679
Out of curiosity, what CPU would you be rendering it on? Also, is it worth it to spend a bit of time in PS to fix the weird fur or not?
>>83847451
Yeah obviously there are allusions to real-life race issues but they're mixed and matched between the different animals. Like the fact that foxes are all perceived as criminals is comparable to black people, but then so is the fact that Judy is the first of her kind to be a cop and the whole "only bunnies can say cute" thing. You can't point to one group and say "these are meant to be the white people, these are the blacks, these are the asians" etc.
>>83847798
i fucking love that about this movie, it was such a clever way to show a middle finger to these so called "sjw"s.
>>83847730
So hard-ass with a heart-of-gold? More Hopps-Bogo than Hopps-Wilde-Bogo?
>>83847798
I getcha. It's too animal specified even though it makes references to real life scenarios. Here's my oversimplified hypothesis.
Charismatic animals - untrustworthy (minority) demographics of a majority society subject to prejudice
Uncharismatic animals - the society's majority
Honestly I thought it would be the other way around but then again are giraffes charismatic animals?

You would need to be a fantastic repainter. I tried using the healing, blur, clonestamp, and multiple overlays to try and correct it, but the eyelids are too fargone for anything of that nature, so I'd basically have to re-render with new settings, which I don't feel like doing. Do you have a pose request?

>>83847894
You know, I have a laptop here I'm not using with a 4720HQ, so if you send me a few of the Blender files I can render on that- should be much faster and I'd like to add to my Judy collection.
Na, I'm playing with it myself on my desktop myself. Trying to do a football thing atm. You should remove that fur around the collar- easy to do.

Thanks for the offer. I have an old friend with a much more powerful setup who's willing to render when I need him to, but these renders honestly aren't that taxing. I usually get assistance when I need an animation rendered as a final render.
Share some of your 3D Judy, friend.
smoking is bad, but it somehow fits finnick.
>>83847451
Solo those arguments may work, but when you mix them together? Who is supposed to be black, foxes or rabbits? Prey or preds? A predator is the mayor and hires a token bunny to be a cop. Then preds get crazy and it's majority prey hating on those savage preds. Who is who?
The answer: nobody, they are animals and have different distinctions. And because of that we can see that anyone can be racist (even members of minorities), anyone can be sexist (even females), anyone can be an asshole (even those who are treated unfairly). So the movie tells us: don't be an asshole and at least try to get along.
>>83847889
I'd say so. He learned his lesson with Judy that you can't judge someone based on appearances aloneoh shit, that's one of the morals, and respects Nick for the role he played too much to be a total hard-ass on his first day. But he knows Judy the best.

realistically though if fruitopia ever existed I see it as impossible. I mean even today a lot of us can BARELY tolerate each other and we're all humans with virtually the same physical makeup. In zootopia there's too many fucking variables and desu I can never see small animals practically living and interacting with big animals around them.isn't it strange how Christianity exists in zootopia though?
>>83848065
Ah, fair enough. Depends desu. I've been teasing with the idea of rendering at 5K and I can still see noise even with 1024 samples, so I'll be looking at 12+ hours on my laptop and 6ish on my desktop. This is only for stills of course, animation (when I get bored of doing stills...) would probably have to be at 720p.
I have very few. Started when I was at uni doing exams (hence the image) and spent most of my time actually learning Blender so I could do more interesting stuff than move a model around. Pic isn't really finished, but I don't have the original file anymore for some reason so I can't really improve the face, text or the general quality of the render.
I'll be sure to post my football one when I finish it in a dozen hours or so...
>Laverne is sometimes associated with the Roman goddess Laverna or the Latin word versus "of Spring"

>that scene Hopps and Wilde fall into the water and Nick surfaces first
>"Carrots!"
>"Hopps!"
>"Judy!"
And just like that, in one scene, we see the fox Nicholas Piberius Wilde go from "concerned acquaintance" to "worried friend" to "desperate love interest" in a flash.
And people wonder why WildeHopps gets shipped so hard.
>>83848625
W-what is the other 0.03%? I thought Judy was pure...
>>83848264
Same here. I'm currently learning Maya fulltime (to be a legitimate animator) but I screw around in Blender, mostly for fun. I find it a lot easier to use for smaller projects.
Help me a bit, and it's really quick to confirm a suspicion of mine. I've been talking to the creator of the Judy_rig, whom I've known for a little while, and this happens (pic related). The facial rig is an amalgamation of massive control bones, which he says isn't supposed to happen, but nothing so far seems to have worked in fixing it. To see if this is an isolated issue, can you post a screenshot of your Judy rig, in pose mode with the face bones enabled, and your current version of Blender? I have 2.74 and the problem migrated when he said to try it in 2.75 earlier today.
Obligatory.

>>83848641
Ah, fair enough. I can't see myself learning this to become a professional, but I want to get pretty good at it and be able to put together a model of most things that I can think of.
Here ya go. Since you talk to the guy, does he think it's possible to improve it? I would like to add more control to the arms, hands and face, but I realise that I have a long way to go before I can attempt it and would like to know whether it's feasible.

Yes, you can indeed edit the rig, but he puts quite a bit of work into making them work the way he needs them to, so he uses scripts (hence why you need to 'Auto-run python scripts'). If you know what you're doing he gives a little description in the text box when you open the original file.
Also, thanks. I now know it's just me with this bullshittery.

Here we go again.
Do you know how awkward it would be if the two biggest ships were implied to be canon? They're all working together, the most popular working together directly as partners. I can still see it working out as both aren't above bending the rules, but once rings are put on fingers it's time to split up the team. Married cop partners just shouldn't be a thing.
>>83852362
Two biggest ships? The only ship is Judy and Nick
And Z didn't show any boats of note
>>83852062
Thats because the face wasn't animated at all for the cycle. The focus was only on the body movement.
Maybe we did talk! I remember talking about posing on early may. One picture I shared was Judy sitting down with the text "Consider the following" right next to her.
I also made this meme thing and posted it on trash.

Well, you're always better off keeping the subdiv when you can. It's adjustable in renderability, visibility, and level of subdivisions. Unless if you're sculpting, but I doubt that.

Damnit, anon, I'm still a complete novice. I will keep that in mind, although I don't have a clue what sculpting means in this context so eh.

>>83854609
sculpting in basically 3D painting. You 'paint' your object into form. The end result usually has millions of polys, which is why subdiv is useful. It then goes to retopology for animation, etc etc. It's really cool shit famalam.
>>83854664

It is only a matter of time before Zootopia outstays its welcome and these threads are banished to /trash/ like /sug/ or Frozen
>>83847225
I liked Zootopia, but Disney movies ARE formulaic. These movies always feel like safe bets. You get the mildly funny start that becomes darker -with references to other movies- and then funny at the end, the colorful environments, the self-help theme (follow your dreams, be yourself, love each other!), the pop/pop-rock song from a famous artist and your happy ending.
Basically, I don't think these movies are risky at all. They're guaranteed successes that keep gaining Oscars they don't really deserve. It doesn't feel like the dream of a guy who spent ten years of his life developing every little detail of the plot, but rather like a team of writers sat down at a meeting board four hours a day three times a week for eight months to figure out a story that's marketable but also somewhat meaningful.

I got pulled over one and the cop had a good laughI recently acquired a parts car, WITH a title (godsend, these are very rare cars)... I was going to use the title to put plates on mine. Not legal, but it would work. Got paid yesterday, and my plan was to go to town and transfer title into my name, put some plates on my car, and finally not have to worry about cops getting me. Low and behold, my lovely wifey, managed to loose the fucking title somehow between last night and this morning. Decided it was a good idea to just move my shit around apparently... get a room, you two
>>83865935
Kek. Nice.
I did some more work on the eyes today, so far i'm satisfied... her nose otoh is proving frustrating so I took a break, went up to Chapters/Indigo to ask them where the hell my ArtofZ book I ordered last month was. Turns out it came in yesterday. Woohoo! A good day today.. and getting better 'cause i'm cracking open a cold one right now. :^)
>>83866035
There's room for one more, fluff.
Wanna join?
>>83866093
>that Judy
Holy fucking hell.
Dude... send it to Lord Byron.
>We bunnies are good at multiplying.
What did she mean?
>>83866183
A play on words. A good one at that, too.
>>83866093
Ahh, yes... you're the anon that actually has the correct tools to draw, right?... look at you, and all your fancy pencils... I envy you....
The nose always give me trouble too.... and paws... fucking paws always look wrong in my eyes....
I have the ebook. Pretty good read. Love all the early concept art, fucking beautiful... Wish there was more though.I wish I had a nice, cold, PBR to Crack open right about now....

Did they animate Nick's Arrested Development stare before or after they got Bateman for the role?
>>83866230
How long do you spend on drawings? Also do you have a tumblr
Just drew this smug slav.
>>83866292
>implying Jason Bateman isn't merely Nick's avatar when he visits our dimension
So how did they make Finnick sound like in Japanese? Did they give me a deep sounding Yakuza-ish manly voice or did they fuck up the joke and give me a regular cute voice
>>83865975
her voice actress wasnt meant to play this kind of character, at least she did the best she could
>>83866372

She better stick to singing

An hour or 2 usually, sometimes more... no tumblr... deviant art. 'TheMechanicGuy'
Also, "Holy shit, it's OP!" >senpai noticed me.jpg
>>83866325
>squatting slavs
>>83866230
Yup, I used a 2H to lightly sketch then went in with an HB pencil to firm up the lines. I plan to ink it near the end.
I'm loathe to draw her paws so to hell with that I say. I cannot draw hands if my life depended on it.
I gotta buy a cheap bristle paint brush tomorrow so I can sweep the eraser bits off without smearing the graphite. A trick I learned in drafting class years ago. I wish I had kept my drafting table too.
I also have Art of Brave, Frozen, WiR, and Wall-E. Never seems to be enough to satisfy. :^)
(slightly tempered day, I only have 1 can of Kokanee left. Ah well..)
>>83846612
How good was the 3D in this movie? I didn't get to see it in 3D and it makes me really sad.
>>83866576
(Not OP) but Holy crap, i'd say you missed out... 3D was awesome but what really blew me away was seeing it in IMAX 3D last friday. Christ... 4K laser lighting... bright screen and super sharp image. Was thinking about buying a 3D tv soon but now seriously thinking of holding off and going 4K 3D.
>>83866523
Eeeeeyup. Fucking paws.... I was the same way.... finally getting the hand of them, but still irritates me. That brush thing is good advice, I may end up doing that. Of course, half of my drawing as smeared graphite, since I shade with my finger....
>>83866651
Yeah, finger smearing is a proven technique. I did a bit of that to fuzz-out the edge of Judy's cheeks and ears.
>>83860637

How were you able to find it in an IMAX 3D theater last friday so far after its release?

They're worth watching desu.
A handful of neat deleted scenes, concept stuff, and more.

>>83866869
Believe it or not, it's still playing at the one closest to me. I was surprised as I thought I missed out on it. It was about 75% to 80% of 400 seats sold and one of the employees told me it sells consistently in spite of the fact the dvd is already out.

>>83856948
It would be extremely painful.Having been dog owner since childhood, I' should mention that you should never tug on the ears. It's like if someone grabbed you by the ear. They're fine for petting, but never pull. Thank you for reading this little PSA.

The crowd was a complete mix of all ages, some couples, and a few singles. The crowd was responsive... lots of laughter at the appropriate moments, respectful quiet when Judy under the bridge, stuff like that. Different from what I was used to seeing in my town.

Bonnie is just what Judy is gonna look like when she gets older. Judy even wears one of her shirts later in the movie. They both have the same fur and eye color.

Are there any theaters in the eastern United States showing Zootopia in 3D still?
>>83867295

I did a quick shower, shave, and change. Salvation Army has a dorm for paid beds that are almost never full, but was a risk. $21/night, 3 big meals, clean, and safe. A third the price of the hostel next door with the exact same living arrangements.
>>83866360
The lack of Japanese audio is my biggest complaint with the home release.
>>83867295
Shhhh. It's anonymous, not a hivemind. People have the option to differentiate themselves if they wish. That's why the name field is there.
I think it's kind of nice seeing reoccurring namefags and such. It's almost like having friends

Doubtful, but you can always check MovieTickets.

if you really believe this than i blame m00t for driving 4chan into the ground and not cracking the whip hard enough before he left.

I don't lurk on /trash/ regularly but once in a while I'll go look up the Zootopia general for fun. Their Star Fox generals are pretty good too, because unlike /v/ they can actually discuss the games without throwing console war accusations at each other and can actually have constructive discussions.

>>83868387
You weren't able to recover it? There are some apps on the Play store that may work.
I have 7 Zootopia folders and am rather selective on what I save.
Deleted scenes (outakes pics & vids)
Screenshots (most are mine)
Fan Art
Judy Render (some 3D Blender pics)
UHD Pics (several high pixel count jpegs)
Video & Gifs (webms etc)
Zootopia Misc (reaction pics etc)
Not large when compared to some peoples collections. If any can be of help I can Mega them for ya.
>>83846662
I watched it last night and I was impressed with the imagery they could get away with by using animals instead of people. The lab scenes would've been right out of breaking bad and the mobsters execution method was damn grim for a Disney movie. Hell the whole Don subplot is pretty much straight from Training Day when Ethan Hawke isn't murdered because he saved the ganger's sister the day before.
>>83868546

I'm actually about to turn in, starting to doze off and I have to work tomorrow.
>>83868963
oh, you poor thing... you dont know? these people did everything upside down.
>>83869082
Lol. They were in the other 2 dorms. The paid bed ones usually have older guys who work but cant afford Victoria's high rent. It's not too bad if you can put up with some snoring.
The other two dorms usually have your mental health and drug issues and tattooed goofs just out of jail who think they're all alpha and tough. *roll eyes*
But I like to travel light and cheap. I -really- wanted to see that movie and didn't relish the idea of sitting in a donut shop all night waiting for a bus in the am.
Off to bed for me. (Sry for the piss poor quality, enhancement of a deleted scene). Hmm... looks like there's still some room in her bed. :^)
>>83869108

OK, so what needs changing here? I'm thinking the left hand, expression (looks like she's surprised to have the ball) and then maybe try and get more power in the legs.
Noisy of course since it's just a preview

Heh... render a 20,000 pixel wide pic of Judy then print it off on the huge colour banner/poster printer we got at work. I wonder if the boss would mind. Probably freak out when I go through a gallon of blue ink.
>>83869364
It takes me 3 hours to render it properly at 1440p, so at 196x that it'd take over a month... If you have a workstation, go for it lel

Well, maybe not over a month but pretty close to it
>>83869243
I would assume the ears would be pointed back when running? Maybe? I don't know.... I'm not an expert on animals playing sports though, and it looks fine as is.
