Not him but research suggests it's all about dedicated practice. Work on your flaws or skill you haven't honed yet. Standard repetition practice is good, perhaps even necessary but going out of your way to learn is faster and CAN make you a pro if you do it enough.

I was similar. I could do things. I could do things a lot without any pleasure but the kicker is the second it became regular I hated it.
If you asked me to listen my favourite album once a day I'd hate it. If you gifted me the record I might be liable to play it on repeat for god knows how long.
It's all discipline. As long as you keep trying to do 'work' it will click over eventually. It won't happen on its own and certainly not over night but it's not impossible. You have to want it though.

I use anticipation. 'I need to work NOW' is intimidating. 'I'm going to fuck around for an hour, then start work' is way easier, because you spend that hour planning in anticipation of what you're going to do. and sometimes it's a day of anticipation followed by a day of work. just keep an eye on the clock either way.
also the miracle of caffeine+music. Get a coffee/teapot. Drink that stuff by the litre, however you prefer it. if you got any songs or bands where when you listen to them you start imagining scenes the music could go to, make a playlist of that stuff. its now your inspiration tracklist.
reading is also important for writing. nine times out of ten my writer' block is fixed by finding something good to read.
if your passion of choice is something other than writing, then the same for whatever it is. if you wanna code games, find something with novel mechanics. if you wanna paint, set aside time to look for art you like. That kinda stuff.

you've gotta read fucking everything. classics are classics for a reason. read the fuck out of les mis even if it makes you want to die and you will stop caring about length. read pratchett and tolstoy and morrison and lots and lots of fic and eco and asimov and memelord wallace and take those fuckers apart: read and analyze enough pratchett to start figuring out how he puts jokes together and what it looks like when he misses and do it again and again. you'll start to see cracks - even in structures you cannot yet replicate - and that's a good sign.
if you're reading something and the grammar is shit, the author doesn't care enough. drop it. prose should be beautiful or transparent.
put more time into less words. fiction is not a highschool paper where you have to cover pages. write elegantly; carve away everything that isn't a horse/book/whatever.

There's quite a few options to choose from, but I'll always have to say John/Rose for favourite. Those two were really very fun together, it was nice having two rather different types of people who still mesh positively, as opposed to just being opposites who attract. I could go on about why I liked it, but I imagine it's all been said before.
