Good evening owls of /co/,

We're totally doing this

HI OP

is this almost where kimiyo has a brief run in the skwad

this cover is so weird for Suicide Squad
>>
>>83833266
this is almost a Gene Wolfe title; I wouldn't put that past Ostrander at all
>>
>>83833266
Dr. Light is looking pretty uguu~~
>>
>>83833327
I don't understand the hype either, and it's not because I don't do DC. I'm pulling stuff, Rebirth just doesn't have any wow-factor the way DCYou did.

I'm glad, of course.
>>
>>83833327
delicious

I hope it's like this for a lot more LCSes

I want CW2 to get fucked in the ass hard
>>
>>83833327
He'll be the first to admit that he has idiosyncratic numbers etc., but still ONE CAN HOPE that event fatigue is real

also, his comments about Marvel being shit to deal with on the retailer side
>>
>>83833327
I'm going to assume it was Batman
>>
>>83833327

Damn. I expected Batman and the main Rebirth issue to do well, but to see the whole line go gangbusters? That's crazy.
>>
>>83833383
Light looks weird, but I'm instantly into Toon Waller.
>>
>>83833373
>Rebirth just doesn't have any wow-factor the way DCYou did.
No one brought them.
>>
>>83833421

Those of us in these storytime threads and on /co/ in general loved DC You, but yeah they sold like shit everywhere else.
>>
>>83833383
The real question we can take bets on with respect to Marvel is: who gets reverted and when, where it comes to 'classic' characters in roles.

I need to find where I put the betting pool doc since I cleaned my desktop off, scheisse
>>
>>83833438
>but yeah they sold like shit everywhere else
RIP
>>
>>83833373
>Rebirth just doesn't have any wow-factor the way DCYou did.
Lotta people would disagree with you
Even just Ollie and Dinah meeting and fucking is enough for people to buy it, even if it were shit
>>
>>83833347
He already referenced C.S. Lewis.
>>
>>83833266
Rape time?
Rape time.
>>
>>83833439

>who gets reverted and when, where it comes to 'classic' characters in roles.

maybe more classic teams but a lot of the classic characters are around. Hydra Cap and Thor are maybe the exceptions and SamCap but Tony, Vision and Wanda, Peter Parker.... tho we are losing hulk and hawkeye

yknow really it's a Bendis test
>>
>>83833504
Wolfe's more obscure than Lewis; way better writer, too. But he did go for mid-level obscure Lewis, at least

>>83833467
I've seen some people who I don't think quite got how much appeal Ollie/Dinah has even for people who aren't oldfans
>>
>>83833467
I know it does, but I can't imagine ever reading those bulletpoints and saying "this is why I will buy this comic." Otto's really strong, but Percy doesn't engage me.

More or less the same way I could shrug my shoulders off Team Briefs refusing to read good stories because they're upset about costumes. I show up for the stories, is all.
>>
>>83833561
I've finally started to see some Rhodey pushback
>>
>>83833564
Offtopic but I've been looking at the reviews on facebook and there's this one guy who's been commenting on all of them saying how the new book sucks and they should have used Connor Hawke instead. Like literally every review he has a comment saying that the new GA should have been Connor Hawke

Off topic but I was at a company seminar today, and it was the first time one of these retail companies flat out told us to scam people, no beating around the bush. I found it pretty funny.

>>83833383
Marvel has been treating customers like they're idiot cattle, I'm glad it's getting thrown back in their faces with this and the post Secret Wars relaunch. People aren't going to just eat up renumberings and movie cash grabs when they're this transparent.

Civil War II might as well say "these chumps will buy anything" on the front cover.
>>
>>83833690
It didn't have to take off like this, I think. There was room for this to go quite badly wrong - so a strong fan response is nice.
>>
>>83833679
I wanted to like Connor but he always bored me, Ollie was way more vibrant

>>83833704
There are definitely Harperfags
>>
>>83833679
Connor was such a Chuck Dixon character even if technically Puckett created him, and like many Dixon things, he didn't seem to last without Chuck at the helm.

Agreed
>>
>>83833690
Yeah and DC has most of the big sellers in June so July and August won't be as impressive

Wolfe is pretty good IMO. OP is referencing The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories, give that a shot.
>>
>>83833828
BotNS is...tough in spots, there's parts I still don't get, but so many of the individual passages are wonderful and there's one of those So Very Wolfe things where you hit a revelation at the end that makes you realize you have to completely reframe how you read the entire book.
>>

We will see if after people are able to take books off pull lists and the hype of a launch

I remember it was #3 or #4 of the Nu52 most books took like 50% hits and then went under their pre-Nu52 numbers.

I am glad they are doing well, well kinda I don't really care because I am getting the perfect superhero comics I want from other places right now so I don't need DC for anything and I kinda find the whole thing really crass.

Do we have a canon age on Ollie?

Connor was really only doable because Grell let Ollie get well into his 30s. And now Babsgirl is 21, right? I can never quite get into this version of her and Dinah being so close, as opposed to Canary/Oracle working so well.
>>
>>83833903
Nothing about Rebirth has blown me out of the water so far, sure. I'm kinda looking forward to Ostrander's one-shot, and to Mother Panic and Shade the Changing Girl from Young Animal.

Your 20's are definitely a whole other feeling than your 30's. Just that one year from 29 to 30 makes you think "fuck I'm going to be THIRTY"

But they are.
>>
>>83834219
Eh. You ever seen an old Japanese guy? Aside from the long stache, that's fairly accurate.

Goodness knows Kimiko and her friend look more Japanese than any character you're likely to find in an actual anime. And Satoshi Kon is dead now, so now anime characters will never look Japanese ever again.

Black Hand, now he's spooky because he bangs corpses and is basically the universe's most powerful necromancer. But the BLs on their own are really just an excuse to have characters face their guilt and other hangups over a character's death. They remind me of the Shadows in Persona 4 in that way.

I enjoyed Blackest Night, but the BLs themselves were a weak point, because again, the event is ostensibly a horror story, but the villains aren't very scary. They were scary at first, but then they just kept running their mouths. It might've been fine if they acted at all like the people they resemble.

Not at all, that show had great potential. They should have just straight up made it an adaptation of Batman and the Outsiders instead of doing that weird stuff with Anarky and Pyg for half a season.

Okay. Finally managed to complete a rough outline of my story. I better slow down or my lazy ass might actually get around to writing a script!

Honestly, Pol Pot would find any random ass reason to just kill people and burn stuff. Dude was fucking nuts.

>>83835930
Yeah. Creating characters and setting details is a lot of fun. Figuring out the actual sequence of events of the story, that's actual work.

I didn't make it to the gym and I was going to pull hair out otherwise

Without sharing more than you want to, what's your story like?
>>
>>83835950
As I recall, wearing glasses suggested you thought yourself an elitist academic, too good for the peasentry, so it made you a target for reasons along those lines.

But also the one you mentioned.

It wasn't a murder-cult you could argue logic or reason with when they came to kill you.

Sure, why not. Basically, mercenaries accidentally rescue princess, who hires them to take out local pirate gang. They're a relatively new outfit, so they spend the story essentially level grinding for resources so they can assault the pirates' base.

See, now that sounds dirt fucking simple, right? And really it is, but when you actually start thinking about the sequence of events and the fine details of the narrative, that's when you hit a mental wall, and probably where most people stop and decide to do something else.

That's really all anyone was ever asking for.

I would read the hell out of this. There'd have to be at least one bar fight scene of course.
