Keith being called out to the Desert by the energy when none of the others were. Keith appearing to rescue Shiro at the exact right moment. Keith's ability to operate Galra tech. Keith's awkwardness and seemingly ignorance of standard human culture, his more aggressive personality, the fact that he was drawn to the quintessence.
In my opinion I don't think he's Lotor, I think he's more of a Touya (from SRWJ) type character than anything else.
Daddy was a Galra Scout looking for Voltron, fell to Earth, fell in love with Earth women, had a kid. They might actually be going to pull the whole "Zentrandi gets exposed to Culture and defects" like Macross did which is why the Galra haven't just taken the entire planet over already.

Follow up on this "he's at least part Golran" theory. We find out that he was found abandoned as a child, raised in an orphanage but had a burning desire to travel to outer space one day. His proximity to the Blue Lion caused his latent memories to act up, eventually making him lose it and get kicked out of the pilot program. After we learn this, have Haggar declare that he was genetically engineered to pilot the red lion and that his real name is Lothor.

It sort of looked like they got a split up individually, except for Allura and Coran in the Castle, but that may not be how it actually shakes out. Seems like it might be too much to juggle, unless they're all almost immediately reunited, which would be a waste.
The most conflicting one would obviously be Lance and Keith, but I don't know who else would have interesting dynamics. Keith and Hunk might be good, because Keith is hot headed and Hunk is really authoritative enough to keep him in check, but is also much more cautious and responsible minded.
Pidge and Lance might be interesting (not a shipper here), if you like bickering that is not two hotheads against each other.
Shiro and Lance might be interesting as an example of Lance looks up to Shiro and follows his lead, but Shiro gets a bit fed up with Lance's shit or begins going more nuclear over his PTSD. It did sort of look like Keith and Shiro were the closest two when they got sucked out, so it might be them with a similar dynamic.

Except that's almost certainly not happening. This show is trying to go about things differently from Voltron and Golion. All of the pilots have already bonded with their lions to a good extent, especially Keith with the Red Lion (who they highlight is the hardest to tame) near the end, so the popular theory that Keith will end up pilotting the Black Lion is bunk right off the bat.
Furthermore? Allura literally cannot replace any of the pilots. She is the only one capable of creating wormholes. The castle is part of her identity, she is the only one who can really pilot it.
Even the girl pilot quota was cleverly filled since Pidge is a girl in this series. They don't need to kill off Shiro to make way for a female member.
Also the show is aimed at really young children. We don't see Haxus, Sendak, the king, any of the crew on the destroyed Galran ships, etc die on-screen. If Shiro died, it would have to be on-screen given how he's the main character right now, and guess what? They aren't getting that past the censors.
In short, people need to stop using Voltron to come up with theories when the crew is going out of their way not to create the show from our childhood, but the show we remember watching from our childhood.

The Blue Revenant's takeaway from this, the viewpoint that he tries to impart, is that the Blue Lion is the "jester" of the quintet. The patsy meant to rush into the fray under the delusion of heroism so that its peers can learn from its errors. In short, an expendable tool
Lance takes the information rather badly and alternates between nigh-suicidal feats of daring to incredibly craven acts of self-preservation in an attempt to beat the "curse"
At the end of the episode or after a short subplot arc, Lance gets the opportunity to confront Allura and Coran about it. They acknowledge that almost everything the revenant said was true, but not entirely. The Blue Lion was the first component to be formally completed and its creation was hasty, but that was because there were planets that needed its help right at that moment. Yes, it doesn't have the durability, strength, or speed of its successors, but the Royal Family decided not to remedy that in fear of tampering with the all ready existing unique quality that it did possess; that almost anyone could pilot it. And that's what's so important about this Lion and its Paladin. At even the direst of hours, any willing soul can jump right in and choose to be brave.
