It's kinda bizarre how people always single Code Lyoko out for its character designs when hardly any cartoon characters obey real anatomy. Most cartoon characters have eyballs that were they round would take up most of their skulls.

That's because there's a point where a "Style choice" just becomes a friggin deformity. I -would- hate the character designs in a show where you could fit their whole face in one eyeball as well.
And it's frustrating because there is just no reason to make them that damn big. It's fine that they want to make them big, but they just went waaaaay overboard for zero reason.

It feels like this is just you trying to justify your personal style preference. This isn't objectively measurable - How many classic cartoon "human" characters from the early to mid 20th Century have anything approaching realistic anatomic proportion or facial features? Hell, how many cartoons from the 90s did? By that logic they're virtually all horribly deformed. I'm struggling to even think of many cartoons where the human characters aren't - Avatar and Korra maybe? Classic Scooby Doo?
It's fine not to like a show's designs. But it's kind of autismal to keep coming into threads for that show and pointing out the fact that you don't like it's designs. We get it, anon. You're not a fan. That's okay.

I think in the beginning episodes it was what they wanted to look like, cause Odd was a dog (though everyone including him that he was a cat) and they used him as an example. I didn't even watch Code Lyoko when it originally aired but I find it really nostalgic and comfy. It makes me wish I was a kid again. I think it's because despite its sci-fi, the setting and the characters are pretty down-to-earth and realistic.
Probably helps that I really like the show's aesthetic as well - The backgrounds, the colour palette, the music... Hell I even love the character designs, big foreheads and all.

Well, it's not entirely sure that wouldn't have been the case, besides the likes of 4Kids, I don't think 'Merica would have done anything against airing foreign shows, Sailor Moon aired once before and from the stuff I caught glimpse of on the web (providing it wasn't a uncensored version) they still showed "suggestive" themes from time to time with no problem. My safest bet would be that the French didn't bother to make such shows at the time, since other foreign shows could get away with some innuendos now and then that did air in the states. If anything, maybe something with a "younger" cast of characters would change that, aka Pokemon kind of deal, then maybe something like CL back in the 90s might not fly all too well. But I think it's less so to happen than more personally.
