Well, when Infinty and Skylarders were going they did a thing where you'd have to buy a new game every year. With Lego Dimensions its been confirmed that they wont do that, instead the story is expanded in the form of DLC, which will likely be much cheaper. My theory is that once the Fem Busters come out the price will drop, since Fem Busters comes with a custom portal. So you can get the original portal or the Fem Busters one. Story for wave 2 was also revealed during a QnA

It's honestly what made my decision to go with Dimensions instead of Infinity. It might be more expensive at first, but it's cheaper in the long run. Also, the cool interactions between all the different characters is fun too.
