That's not the descent of generals works. First it starts with people making art and fanfics. They want recognition for their work so they take on names. Eventually they stop talking about the show and only care about the fanfiction, art, waifus, and other "community" stuff. The anonymous part of the message board is lost, as everyone starts using names.
