Does Watchmen deny Superhero?
Is Superhero essentially violent and amoral psychopath?

What do co/ think?
>>
Mee tinka u should learn kava tah speak English before coming on /co/
>>
Yes, it essentially condemns the idea of the "superhero" as they frame the follies and inadequacies of these 6 individuals and show just how absurd it would be to have them as our peacekeepers.

>Shall not the Judge of all Earth do right?

So, was Alan Moore hater of Superheroes since this time?
>>
But, isn't Supreme written by Moore after Watchmen love letter to Superman?
>>
It's not really a rejection of the idea of superheroes as much as it is a criticism.
>>
>>83595226
But, it isn't because concept of Superhero is essentially bad and harmful.
It is only because these 6 individual are mentally unstable.
>>
>>83595360
6 individual are mentally unstable because they are Superhero
>>
>>83595403
They are unstable before they become vigilante.
>>

Do you think Watchmen is not rejection of Superhero?
So, what is theme of Watchmen for you?
>>
>>83595360
Throughout the book he gives examples of the dangers of giving one person or group total control of being the arbitrator of justice. Whether it be FDR, Nixon, Rorscach or Ozymandias, the point Moore got across is that humans are flawed, and for a human to be a "super hero", (basically a vigilante who only answers to themselves and imposes their rules above all else) is a flawed concept that will only lead to tragedy.

>>83595255
He never had the affection for traditional Superheroes like most writers did. He's noted his favorite hero is Herbie the Fat Fury.
>>
>>83595468
But, Moore loved Superman at least, didn't he?

Moore wanted to see superheroes taken in lots of different directions and was disappointed when the 90s came along and made everything grim.
>>
Do you know that Dan Slot said "Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow" is actually a beautifully written love letter about why Superman should NEVER kill."

I agree with him.
It is love letter to Superman.
Did Moore hate even Superman from the beginning?
>>
>>83595678
But, if watchmen condemns superhero genre because it is unstable and amoral, isn't grim dark age of heroes true face of Superhero genre for Moore?

He probably respects him as a cultural icon and an artifact of lost Americana, but considering his three Superman stories feature Big Blue losing control and 1)wishing for Death 2)lamenting the loss of his perfect world and 3)failing to live up to his own ideal and sacrificing his power due to his hypocrisy, I'd say he views him through the same gnostic lens as he does other superheroes

Slott's a weenie

You forgot Supreme
>>
>>83595786
I don't think Superman in what happend to man of tomorroy is hypocrite.
How hypocritical?
>>
>>83595845
Supreme to me feels more like a love letter to the people working on Superman (and other comics Moore respects) than of Superman himself. Rick Veitch does a lot of care to ape the style of Curt Swan and Kurt Schaffenberger, while Moore cribs wholesale classic issues of Superman, Justice League, and Mad Magazine. Hell, there's even an issue dedicated to Jack Kirby and his work ethic.

Superman views himself as a hypocrite for failing to up hold his one rule even though it was the only way to stop Mxyzptlk

You can't put Supreme in that context though.

Really nailing down Moore's comprehensive thoughts on superheroes is impossible because like most people he tends to change his mind. Watchmen was written when he was in a self-described "bad mood" which he mellowed out from eventually. Although his thoughts on superheroes were always pretty nuanced, they're probably a lot different now than they were then.

So, he suicided.
What he survived is only good fortune.
>>
>>83595968
So, does Moore love/hate Superhero at same time?
>>
>>83595998
Yes.
>>
>>83595968
Actually in that point in history, Watchmen is written by Moore when he's in a good mood, giddy to play with the company toys and really examine them in unique ways. Just look at how exhilerated he is over the success of the book in his pitch for Twilight of the Super Heroes. Not only thinking about the writing potentials, but the merchandising capabilities of the two books

Moore was just doing his thing; he didn't expect everyone to copy (and push to THE EXTREEEEEME!!!#$&!!!!1) the ideas he was experimenting with.

It's like with movies; someone does something insanely popular (say, STAR WARS) and suddenly there are more shitty space movies pumped out cos erryone wants a share of the bux, coke, and pre-teen whores that Lucas musta been getting.
