i'll repeat it, but Alabaster: The Doomed Session, while kind of cheesy and over the top, is still one of the better horror fanventures i've read.

I really liked Vriska as a character back in act 5 but I liked her BECAUSE she was evil and manipulative, and I sympathized with her much less than some other characters that I didn't like as much. Acknowledgement of ones issues and wanting to move past them seems to be as far as issue resolution goes in Homestuck, a good example being the Dave/Dirk heart to heart before Collide. But even still, in terms of a well written main character story, Vriska's ended fantastically with her death and re-birth in the bubbles, given her whole thing was trying to steal the spotlight from the actual main characters. Having it lead to her death, paving the way for her to move on more positively in the afterlife was as good as it could get.
Even worse is that fact that she could have come back and done things later in the bubbles, still with her personality from before but toned down so she doesn't try to hijack the narrative again, given that it's the thing which got her fucking killed in the first place.

I was the first guy who said he started rereading it, and I'm further in the story than I've ever been. Either it wasn't updated that far when I first read it, or I just got disinterested in it.
The dude sure likes his psychedelic horror sequences. Sometimes it's hard to tell what the fuck is going on in the story, it's really all over the place. It's got some good gore, though. The joke characters, when they were featured (haven't seen them recently) were sort of obnoxious, even if they were tongue in cheek. I also don't read most of the pesterlogs all the way through, but that's my habit in most fanventures featuring fantrolls. He's definitely a good artist, and all the lands he's drawn so far look pretty fucking great.

It's a matter of scope, that should be quite clear in my previous post. She can keep her arrogant, lime-light seeking personality, but it shouldn't be as rampant as it was in life, given the awful results it had as she had no restraint. Her whole thing was a play on the megalomaniac min/maxer who had to win all the competitions at all costs and do it loudly to deal with the crippling personal issues. There's enough of a character there to alter things reasonably so as to not lose what made her interesting the the first place.
She could still have her own big role in the story too, but she should be separate from the main narrative in which her character arc ended and a new one beings in death. Anything would have been better than what actually happened with her, it's hard to care about a character once they become a plot device who makes other characters forget their own personalities when she's around.
John was an element that made her question if she had to do the things she did to justify her own existence, he seemed to like her as she was so to speak. She even stated that she wanted to try to put her past behind her after dealing with Bec Noir and John could have toned down her megalomaniac issues had things been different.

My reasoning on it needing to be tempered is primarily supported by the notion that if it persisted as it was, it would only lead to her pulling something as dangerous, selfish and stupid as her whole Bec Noir shenanigans.
Again, if she were to come back in some form in the story she should keep much of what made her interesting in the first place. The big problem is that Vriska doesn't really care what happens to her. It's not that she doesn't understand risk but that she takes life-threatening risks anyway. The way Vriska's arc ended in the alpha timeline, with Terezi stabbing her in the back, it doesn't make sense for Vriska to change her behavior. It only makes sense if she realizes that her actions have consequences for people who she cares about, like for example, when Bec Noir killed off Karkat and Terezi in the alternate timeline.

Primarily I would have just liked to have seen her out of the main narrative and gaining closure on what was a completely solid character arc. The specifics of how her completed character arc should have altered her going forward are obviously debatable in areas like acting dangerously and other major aspects of her personality. I just wanted her to move on from that character arc to a new one and be out of the main narrative at the time of her death, it set the future of the comic up perfectly an was really meaningful.
Her behavior changing, even if it's only slightly, should reflect what she'd learnt by her failed attempt at being the big hero. She's never been one to care much about the feelings of others, so understanding how her actions affect others isn't going to mean much until she deals with some of her selfish tendencies and own personal weaknesses that make her feel so terrible about herself.
She could have done that, been a relevant character and still had an impact on the plot but she had to be kept the fuck away from the main narrative and certainly not revived and given a pat on the back for her god awful actions in the first place that were a part of an already completed character arc.

I'd also argue that one of her biggest failings is a near complete lack of actual compassion for her friends, instead caring only about what parts of them she likes and can make use of. Two big examples of this being her extended dealings with Tavros as a means of speeding up his development to suit her own purposes and her handling of Terezi both pre and post retcon as her partner in crime as opposed to an actual friend, Terezi's comments on her last, one-sided conversation with Vriska being a big indicator that Vriska was putting nothing genuine into that friendship. Her main reasons for fighting Bec Noir were and always will be the recognition for doing so, under the guise of 'doing what's right'.

But it was an absolutely perfect setup for Karkat's character arc. This was his complete low point, he'd fucked up massively as a leader and a friend AND a morial. Well one of the big indicators she'd respond differently is she fucking died, like permanently at the hands of Terezi, her apparent closest friend and her continuing interactions with John and eventually dream John. I can't stress enough the fact that she went through and completed a meaningful character arc upon her death and brief time with dream John.
Again, I'm not saying she couldn't continue to try and be influential, but it should come with some meaningful development off the back of the such a big event for her personally and should be kept separate from the main narrative, given her story there was completed.
