Honestly as far as the pool of realistic candidates is concerned, I don't think there's a woman who would fit the bill. Marvel is going to want an actor with at least SOME mainstream recognition (which virtually all of their headliners, and even supporting cast, can claim, contrary to what some anons have implied), especially since this is the First Female Protagonist movie. Charlize Theron is about the only person who would work, especially since she's had an Oscar-winning turn playing a fundamentally, deplorably flawed human being with literally murderous tendencies in Monster. Not to mention her archetypal performance as a competent badass heroine in Fury Road, who just was a strong female without the script feeling the need to tell you that she was strong female... Theron would be fantastic, actually. But since Larson is in the lead for consideration, clearly Disney is looking for somebody younger, and Theron can't change her age.
