I don't agree about being her being "too resilient" - if anything it showcases how consistently courageous she had always been, which makes sense on account of her being a truly remarkable individual in terms of willpower and code of honour.
The overlooked example I like to bring up is her resigning from the force. Everyone knows how difficult it is quitting one's job even if it's absolute shit. She quit her dream job when she was offered a golden ticket in a silver plate because she didn't feel it accepting it would be the right thing to do. This takes guts. A lot of people can work up courage to stand up to a bully, but this is something else.
If this doesn't impress you, I don't know what would.

At first, it was probably due to an ignorant sense of fairness in the world, but once she stood up to someone bigger and learned that she could get away from it, that gave her confidence to continue doing so.
Most people would rather just be cowed by the situation and back off. That's what made Judy interesting, and worth following around as a protagonist.

Very true, and very much the intention of the creators, I believe. Nick's reaction to his experiences is just as natural as Judy's. Some people remain doggedly stubborn, whilst others accept that the odds are simply stacked impossibly against them, and take the logical path of least resistance. On the moral of chasing your ambitions, the movie encourages the notion, but also stresses that it's never as easy as it sounds either; If you aim high, you'll likely have to deal with even higher obstacles. Both Nick and Judy encountered the same fork in the road, and where Nick pragmatically chose the unrewarding but easier path, Judy boldly stuck to the difficult but high road.
In the case of Nick, I suppose there's also a subtle moral about how it's never too late to turn your life around; Return to that fork in the road, and brave that path you regretted abandoning.

Look, I'd never suggest that Nick's experience is perfectly comparable to Judy's. Considering what little we know of his family life and background, and how much more difficult his particular experience was, it's really not that big of a surprise that he crumbled like he did. But the broader picture and message remains the same: They both got smacked down for striving to be something more than what society deemed them, and where one chose to stand her ground, the other one chose to concede. Nick isn't a lesser person than Judy for giving up, and I don't think the film ever suggests that in any way. His response was simply as *natural* as her's was. People are different, and there isn't always one true and easy answer to the obstacles life will throw your way.
