Good evening owls of /co/,

What the fuck is up with Bronze Tiger's arm in that cover.

I forgot this issue was so early in the run. This issue is all the justification you need for casting Deadshot black IMO.

Hello OP. Is eddie gone for good.
>>
>>83194691
I doubt it, he'll still be haunting some book or other
>>
OP is a faggot
>>
>>83194691
What about Titans? Do they go with?

Will the curse finally be lifted?
>>
i love how quickly that "Don't operate on US Soil" got thrown out

>>83194713

from what i can tell same team. but nothing official
>>
>>83194691
he'll be forced to write product-tie ins edited by the ghosts of aggrieved writers past
>>
>>83194691
That seems like a pretty good team for TT. I saw OP worked some actual sigil magic maybe on Khouri today from his twitter.
>>
>>83194686
The only justification you need is a black guy having the best audition for the role imo
>>
>>83194691
contain him to things that hey won't be allowed to fuck up like Morrison's projects
>>
>>83194753
>i love how quickly that "Don't operate on US Soil" got thrown out
In a shocking twist, they only ever fight in foreign embassies.
>>
>>83194632
Hello Storyteller.

That guy looks bored as hell. But then, villain books aren't for everyone.
>>
>>83194806

I would like to be a fly on the wall in a staff meeting where a clueless editor tries to throw his weight around on a Morrison project.
>>
>>83194785
I completely agree, but that won't ever satisfy some people. And desu it is hard to imagine the best audition is Will Smith these days.
>>
>>83194785
>>83194851
And if, say, Cyborg was casted white, would you have a problem?
>>
>>83194885
Yeah, probably. White representation is a lot more commonplace than black representation, so I think if you're cutting into the latter you have to be confident in that decision. Shouldn't it be cast, too?
>>
>>83194885
Yeah. If they don't fix the costume colors, it'll look really bad on a white guy. Like a porn parody Robocop.
>>
>>83194632
Heya storyteller.

Mockingbird is just a whole lotta "what?" and not in a good way like the first issue was.
>>
>>83194970
Cyborg already has a dildo-ish look to him IMO
>>
>>83194994
Yyy. Not sure what's going on there. I'm willing to go up to 5 on the author's trust statement, but eh.
>>
>>83194942
Shut the fuck up, /co/mblr. Nobody gives a shit about "representation". Fucking bullshit.
>>
>>83194885
Absolutely not, provided that the white guy was the best fit. Though nobody cares about Cyborg, so that's not the best example. Mel Gibson for Jon Stewart solo film when?
>>
>>83194994

i was waiting for the whole 5 issue arc to hit. from reactions on /co/ i already like it ngl
>>
>>83195075
A lot of people do, actually.
>>
>>83195075
Don't ask if you're going to get triggered by the answer. I'd put money down I've been on this side longer than you. Shit I've been here longer than tumblr has existed.
>>
>>83195075
So /co/'s been yelling about imaginary people this entire time?
>>
>>83195128
not even the same guy
>>
>>83195086
Terminator and Blare Runner already cornered the market on white cyborgs, why even bother
>>
>>83195086
My ideal Mel Gibson Lantern film is one where the actual IRL Mel Gibson is somehow tricked into believe the GL Corps is real and they have abducted him.
>>
>>83194970
Be honest, Anon. Cyborg almost always looks like crap in the comics anyways.
>>
>>83195140
Gotta keep them boogeyman nice and threatening, anon.
>>
>tfw new trade of Suicide Squad came in the mail today and I open the book only to find out DC has started using cheap newsprint paper
Does this mean there's a chance DC won't even bother releasing the rest of the trades? Why the fuck would they switch to cheaper paper half way through releasing these trades? Fucking cocksuckers.
>>
>>83195177
All the more excuse to not make him look worse. We gotta have standards.
>>
>>83195075
Decent argument to do it though, not because of social good but because you make more money if you can reach more demographics. Can't ignore that just because of "/co/umblr" and white guilt.
>>
>>83195168
10/10, would watch in theater
>>
>>83194655
HI EVERYONE
>>
>>83195200
The glossy paper looks like shit with older books, DC did you a favor.
>>
>>83195200
That's why you have to check the reviews. Though it can be hard to tell with reprints of course.
>>
>>83195200
>cheap
that would imply the paper was thin or some shit. Thick paper is better than the glossy shit they use nowadays and helps the colors especially in the case of an older comic. Get out of my face, plebeian.
>>
>>83195236
hi OP!
>>
>>83195168
10/10 would pay to watch legally
>>
>>83195200
Non-glossy paper looks good with some older comics, I think.

No it doesn't. The trades aren't re-colored or anything like that so they look good with glossy paper. The newsprint paper makes the coloring look washed-out and old compared to glossy.

I didn't like it much either, his Zemo IS shitty. But I've read enough blah #1s that became amazing #6s that you can say "#1 sucks" and then eat crow at #6.

that was great

Waid also made a "I would have been killed for The Return of Barry Allen by issue #2 of it" tweet

Yes.
>>
>>83195441
This comment is wonderful:
>Let’s redub Nick Spencer as DICK HITLER!I do feel that he foresaw this. He’s a troll.Fuck mainstream comics. I could never get into an otherwise cool medium because the head honchos and writers are CONSTANTLY DE-RAILING EVERYTHING AND BEING TONE-DEAF!!!There should be a law: Listen to the fans and keep a character relatively the same!If a character was created with a certain ideal in mind….KEEP IT THAT WAY!
>>
>>83195424
To be fair he kinda stretched it out a bit...storyline could've been a few issues shorter.

to his point though, maybe he is right, but on the other hand what they're doign with Cap now is a temporary status quo shake up that will last a year or maybe more, not just one single 5 issue storyline. Also, nobody will remember this run on Cap 10 years from now and nobody will talk about this "controversy".
>>
>>83195029
>>83195088
Yeah, I'll keep reading it, but I am not earmarking the trade for purchase anymore unless I like the next issue better.
>>
>>83195485

if I were a creator I'd at least have two accounts, one for friends and family and one for getting yelled at by readers

I don't know how these people get by with one account

>>83195489
He seems right outta Foes, so I'm not so sure. Even Jack Flag, Free Spirit and D-Man have seemed like that.
>>
>>83195441
>But I've read enough blah #1s that became amazing #6s
Never encountered such a comic.
>>
>>83195514
let's listen to the fans, nothing can go wrong that way

I read a really positive review of Mockingbird #3, but it's from a very...idiosyncratic POV
>>
>>83195518
They might talk about it if it's really well done. It doesn't look like it's going to be, but I don't feel it's bankrupt as an idea. I think very little in comics is.

I can tell you, the writers are probably not tone-deaf.
>>
>>83195582
That had a writer change. And I wouldn't' say the start was THAT bad.
>>
>>83195554
I think Dial H really improved after the first arc, which was okay but not nearly as good as the rest of the series
>>
>>83195557
I'm just so charmed that the outraged non-comics fan and the diehard character comics fan end up at the same place. Forget Dick Hitler, we should name him Emmanuel Goldstein.
>>
>>83195518
>10 years from now

Unless this thing gets drawn out a la Clone Saga I can't see it being remembered 2 years from now. Remember the Remender thing?

10 years from now it's gonna end up on top 10 lists of "REMEMBER WHEN THIS HAPPENED?"

>>
>>83195580
http://www.comicosity.com/review-mockingbird-3/

I guess some of what I'm thinking is that this storyline is too explicitly topical and near to Spencer's heart to JUST be clickbait, I think he's really sincere. This has no relation to its quality or execution.

>>83195613
it was not good

Jared Fate got pretty good after being kind of lame opening
>>
>>83195635

Well Cap as a Nazi actually happened so
>>
>>83195619
The first issue of Dial H was most definitely not blah. Things that start out good can become amazing by #6, but something with a shitty first issue won't turn it around like that. maybe it'll be decent after several issues, but it's not worth digging through several trash issues for "just decent"
>>
>>83195646
Black Orchid.
>>
>>83195646
that's Black Orchid
>>
>>83195557
MB 3 is weird and it's all over the place, but it's really intentional. It has actual tension and it doesn't read like a lot of its Marvel contemporaries even though it'll tack in that direction.

There's this thing it's doing with callbacks to the first issue that I have positive feelings about.
>>
>>83195656
Spencer's highly motivated personal political voice would seem to show he has some sincerity here, yeah. But 99% of these people bitching have never paid attention to him or anything he's done before.
>>
>>83195635
I think this storyline will take 2 years to resolve actually.

Haha stereotypes work both ways.
>>
>>83195686

Dial H's first issue was fucking amazing.

However something that has a clean break past those first lackluster issues, or an arc that starts the book off half-cocked, makes it a lot easier to get into. Like instead of suggesting that you read ALL of New 52 Green Arrow, just say "skip everything but Lemire's run".

Basically. There's a veneer of mental illness in there that, if you're not tuned into it, the comic is borderline manic nonsense. But I've been reading 2-3 in the context that 1 sets, that something's gone wrong, and Bobbi is not intended to be a voice of reason.

It's not super-polished, but god dog help us, it's above what I usually expect and, unusually, I have no idea where this shit is going.

>>83196157
Yeah, I think creators are almost uniformly on the "calm your tits" side because they all work in the same format of serial fiction, and they want to keep some techniques and lanes open

That said, I'm torn on the "wait and see" in that I've always been harsh on, say, Bendis for writing weak single issues and his defense of "read them as a whole". Also, everyone comparing it to the Zod necksnap is missing the point, too.

Well I think criticizing execution or whatever after a single issue is different from saying a character is "ruined forever" when the story is clearly temporary and they're big enough for status quo to fix them in the end.

If it was a fringe character I could kind of understand this sort of one issue reaction but not someone who will more or less get reset so other people can use them later.

I'm more annoyed that so many people's justification for pushing it is that "IT'S CUTE".

I hate people who push their OTPs into canon haphazardly regardless of whether we're talking straight or gay couples. I'm also annoyed by people who automatically assume two people want to fuck when they have a conversation together, again, regardless of whether the people in question are both of the same sex or opposite.

Because it is just shipping, people are just trying to use progressivism as a shaming tacic to get what they want. Why you would want your ships to be canon in a comic seems weird to me though, most relationships in superhero comics end for stupid reasons.

She actually started out as a really fun character, when she wasn't the focus. Just an inordinately talented IT chick who dealt with Ollie's hilarious bullshit excuses when he needed to borrow his company's own technology to do Arrow shit.

It was when she started becoming the main focus of Ollie's characterization and every fucking plot arc and emotional development had to be centered on her that it became a problem.

The most controversial part of this issue is probably that Heller's parents actually died in a black riot. And the 'Hell' for 'Heil' thing is a little on-the-nose.

But it's not a disrespectful issue at all. They win out over the racist authority by exploiting his prejudices, and by not ignoring the power of what people are convinced to believe. The villain's scheme seems pretty impractical but it's quite interesting when you consider it'd impact things like arrest records too.

Problem is compounded by the fact Boomer is frequently brushed off as comedic, and gets away with it at least some of the time.

There's a violent, ugly side of Boomer that isn't comedic and when he gets put down like that he gets put down hard, but the comic doesn't pretend he's deserving of some special punishment over and above what everyone is deserving of for being super criminals.

To some extent it's important because Lawton is running from life sometimes in very specific ways, and that's affected by his background, but it's easily adapted.

>>83198631
I wish Born Better had made him less local. There's something very appealing about having the Zemo line be a truly European nobility.

Ive got a link to the entire article, which includes the tweets. I misremembered what he said about Zemo though, the exact wording was "Zemo isn't a Nazi, he's an asshole and overly entitled aristocrat in the Prussian tradition, who believed in the superiority of his family above all others, not Nazism."

But they kept going.

There are lots of societies in DC and Marvel comics that are probably unlikely to have gender and sexual dynamics like ours, but 1) writing that is controversial 2) writing that is for a niche audience. The Amazons are arguably one of the more normal ones. I mean Apokolips' or Attilan's sexual dynamics are going to be way more fucked up.

But yeah I am in agreement Diana should kiss a girl and like it in a mainline book already.

Is it though? I mean, all you'd have to do is write it like any other romance. Share interests, personality compatibility/clashes, little quirks here and there... Should be simple.

And as I type this, I realize that even straight romances almost always lack that stuff and end up a bland waste of time. Dammit.

It probably is work - and more importantly space - that you can't really afford to spend on stuff like sexual dynamics of nonhuman societies. But there is straight up no way that Attilan or Apokolips have the same sexuality that human cultures do. The only reason there might be for actually detailing that one day is to sweeten the Scott/Barda romance.

But what if your fetish was for heartfelt romance?

>I've heard more than once about someone who thinks "I'll write a romance novel and make some easy money!" who discovers it is not in fact easy
Ha! Romance is complicated and full of subtle idosyncrasies of varying complexity. Stemming from the fact that the subjects in question are people with complicated feelings and personality quirks.

The core issue when it comes to writing romance is that it depends heavily on fleshing out the character and how they interact with each other, and sadly, most writers don't want to bother putting that much necessary thought into it.

>>83199524
Eh. I agree with what you said before. The Amazons are relatively simple to write without going into strawman territory. I mean, if Morrison could pull it off, there's no excuse.
