The most controversial part of this issue is probably that Heller's parents actually died in a black riot. And the 'Hell' for 'Heil' thing is a little on-the-nose.
But it's not a disrespectful issue at all. They win out over the racist authority by exploiting his prejudices, and by not ignoring the power of what people are convinced to believe.
