Jughead always struck me as atheist.

I've never read an Archie comic, because Archie isn't popular here in Bongistan. What should I read to get into Archie?

For the most part, the comics are just a bunch of varying silly PG gags with teenagers. Jughead is thoroughly based and all the girls (even Ethel sometimes) are hot. You'll get a chuckle here and there and like it, probably.
Read Archie vs Punisher, though, it's really cool.
Because they keep the heart and soul of the characters while only updating the surroundings they are in.

There's plenty of Best Of books for the franchise as a whole and specific creators.
The Dan Decarlo ones are particularly great.
Best art, best gags.
