You know what the problem was? Making Laurel a childhood friend and making being an alcohol addict. During the 5 years Oliver was away she could've join some secret agency or at least taking up martial arts from somewhere, then she could've been in Central City when the Accelerator hit and gained her Canary Cry, but that would be too simple for them.

We did love Felicity, and not just /co/ either, but a lot of places. The reason being because Felicity was at the time well-written. So was the show as a whole.
Let's say /co/ loves tomato soup. We order it every Wednesday night, and have a big bowl of soup. It's delicious.
But unfortunately, the chef sees that you like it so much he replaces every item on the menu with tomato soup. And eventually the chef gets lazy, and starts using lesser tomatoes. They're rotten, they're overripe, one looks suspiciously like a turd, but in the soup they go.
Naturally /co/ no longer likes the soup. On the surface it is the same soup. It looks the same. It smells similar. But the chunks of shit floating in it say otherwise.
But the chef won't listen to criticism. He's convinced he's made a masterpiece. After all, you loved the soup before, and he's even given you more than you asked for. You're suddenly telling him the recipe is wrong? If there's a problem here, it's with you!
But that's not true. It's not our fault for liking something when it was good, and then disliking it once it turned rotten and was force fed to use. The only one to blame here is the one who made the soup.

She was a nice comedic relief, but her hacker stuff was as shittily written as most other TV hacker stuff.
She could be an awesome character if she actually had to struggle for once. I think the key is her hacker stuff. If that was written like "I have to figure some stuff out, people, I have to use some social engineering to get passwords and then I have to fucking plant a trojan or whatever with a USB stick and then I have to figure out the protocols or whatever and sometimes I fucking fail in parts of this sequence", that would be good writing. Instead it's just hacking into a fucking keyboard, at worst while a fucking screensaver is on.
This could be an AWESOME character and Oracle stand-in if written right. Give her some struggle and let her do actual hacker stuff instead of magic. In the bounds of the Arrowverse of course, it doesn't have to be completely realistic.

I always indifferent to laurel all her actions the first two seasons seem understandable to me and i could giver a bit of leeway because the show was shitting on her too. But with Felicity all she does is whine and snark and no one calls her out on that shit the way they did to Laurel and that's what I can't stand.

And it would have been fine to do that if in doing so they'd made her a compelling character. Instead they made her into an abominable harpy who gobbles up screen time but offers little for it except petulant whining. In short, in making her the female lead, they gave her all the qualities people hated about Laurel.
On the other hand, in her diminished role Laurel became a really great character, only to be thrown away. So, yes, the problem is clearly with the writers and their conceptions of how to write a leading lady.
