I never understood it as a kid and i still don't. How come this was called the 'real' ghostbusters when it was a cartoon? I always thought that was strange since real to me meant live action.

When the Ghostbusters movie we know and love came out, Filmation realized they could make a claim on the name and released an animated show called Ghostbusters.
>>
it was because the filmation company would have sued so they had to say it was the REAL ghostbusters
(which people would understand to mean it was based off the movie and not the obscure live action show from 30 years ago)

Also in the cartoon the "live action movie" existed as fictionalized version of their lives. (the cartoon characters go to watch Ghostbusters 2 at some point and its the live action version)

So they are literally the "real" version and movie is a movie based on their adventures.

So the animated version of the Ghostbusters movie had to have a different title, to avoid copyright issues. Since they were - in pretty much everyone's mind - the only Ghostbusters worth a damn, they chose to call their show The REAL Ghostbusters.
>>
>>83033872
The studio claimed it didn't make any money off of ghostbusters so they didn't have to pay filmation any money for use of their name

Actually what happened was that Columbia Pictures discovered prior to release that there had been a Filmation show named Ghost Busters and, for the avoidance of litigation, the two companies reached an agreement over the use of the name. Filmation, which was by then making animated shows, assumed that this meant they would be making an animated tie-in to the films. I forget whether they were asked to pitch or just assumed that they would get the job, but when they didn't get it, they threw a shitfit, tried to sue, and when they found they did not in fact have the right to make a Ghostbusters cartoon, they made a Ghost Busters cartoon instead - the name and property to which they indeed held the rights.

However as by then Columbia had the rights and established property to make a Ghostbusters cartoon, they simply called it "The Real Ghostbusters" for the avoidance of doubt - ie that they could not be considered to be trading on the previously-extant Filmation Ghost Busters property - and that was that.

"Hollywood accounting", by the by, is often simply a combination of what literally every business in America does (accounting, which is a complex mystery to even most numerate Americans) and a conflation of the profitability of a single product with the profitability of a studio. This is why you always sign on for a cut of the gross on any product where it's offered - not a cut of the profit. Because the gross is closer to turnover (but not identical), it's a large figure; whereas the actual profit (the net) is probably very small by comparison, and may genuinely not exist at all even without trying to hide any income streams.

It was Eduardo that suffered from status quo. He'd do something to break past being a lazy douche and then he'd be right back to it next episode. Neat that the comic referenced that as part of that reason he left.
>>
>>83036177
It is, because it's an actual movie and not pretending to be one.

It actually got Bill Murray to act. Which is amazing.
>>
>>83034480

I saw Bill Murray in a grocery store in New York yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was a little taken aback, and I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of me over and over again. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked away.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word.

After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

As far as celebrities and writers going nuts defending the new ghostbusters go, I think the delusion comes from how Hollywood's culture is insane and ridiculously far removed from the rest of the world, so that they're basically living in their own little private bubble separate from the rest of reality. Bojack Horseman didn't get shit like Smoodies and Halloween in January out of nowhere. As one part of that mass delusion, you're not allowed to shit talk anything in public, ever, because everybody's connected and every time you throw out a comment that pisses someone off, a hundred doors get shut in your face. The biggest hugest celebrities can get away with it, but everybody else has to abide by the rule of always kiss the ass of everyone above and around you, just in case they come back to bite you in yours later.

And journalists are just natural born fuck-ups and it's a miracle when they can arrive at the correct conclusion.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/confidential/sigourney-weaver-returns-dead-ghostbusters-article-1.2635262

>“There’s been a lot of recuts and editing in recent weeks as concerns are growing over the movie,” we’re told. Even Bill Murray, who had top billing in the Ivan Reitman version of the poltergeist-pursuing classic — and supposedly a small part in the new one — has insiders wondering how “Ghostbusters” will play with audiences when it opens on July 15. The 65-year-old living legend doesn’t appear in the film’s official trailer.

Course it was. The rule of this is that is hate that its women cast in these roles that is driving the dislike. (A tone that the filmmakers set from the start pinning this as "The Female Ghostbusters" and labeling the proposed and at the time being drafted sequel project "The Male Ghostbusters".
