More like made the story weaker. You can remove him and all you'd lose is a fight scene that happened for the sake of a fight scene. The recruitment talk was nice but it took you out of the story. Not as jarring as WW watching youtube clips but it didn't help. But guess they have to set-up his solo film and cram him in.
