It does. Everything designed for entertainment sucks. None of it lives up to my expectations and often has a fan base that requires me to hate it regardless of quality.
All stories are poorly written all characters stupid, shoehorned, unnecessary, pandering, boring, unrealistic.
When I was a little kid I saw one or two things that seemed amazing. But as I got older and more cynical nothing has ever been quite as amazing and awe inspiring as the stuff I viewed through childlike eyes. Which has caused me to conclude everyone sucks and is lazy and doesn't try or is worse ... A tryhard. What sucks is I'm really really really smart so I have super good discerning taste and it's lame because of that I can enjoy absolutely nothing.

I hated Star Wars a while ago. Then I played Edge of the Empire with a buncha friends and enjoyed the system but still thought "I still don't like the setting". Then I started playing Armada with my friend who wanted good capital ship battles after we watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Then I started watching Rebels and Clone Wars with the group to get ideas for the Edge campaign. Then I picked up X-Wing...
In a little over a year, I've gone from OP's stance to loving it just because of the sheer amount of fun stuff its produced.
