As a television journalist this makes me mad because they could have done more to show the other side. I mean there is no voice saying "hey Beavis and Butthead didn't cause this fire" Maybe they ran that on a different day but if not that shit wouldn't fly at my station.

You can't deny that a lot of what those characters actually do is dangerous, illegal or impossible.
For them to function as even remotely decent role models, you've got to read them quite selectively.

I remember when this happened, fuckin media sensationalism. The parents are to blame for letting a five year old watch Beavis and Butthead back then anyway.
The Thing is Beavis and Butthead was on MTV which was a cable channel, not network broadcast giving it much more Leeway on what they can air. Not to mention it came on at 7:00 PM back then which was later in the evening.
Compare it to now when we have the violence and gore and stuff on Family Guy, aired on a Network channel that's broadcasted over the airwaves at around the same time.
Beavis and Butthead are tame compared to modern FOX network animations.
Good role models aren't entertaining.
