Is it bad that it's coming out as early as the 7th? I've seen websites talk about how this is the fastest Disney home release ever and even the ads say they're doing this because of the demand, but really this shouldn't be so special; there's always demand for Disney movies and even bad ones should have fast home releases before someone sees it on the store shelf and thinks, "Oh, Meet the Robinsons, I forgot that was a thing. Guess it's not anything special."
Also the box art is super bad.
At least is better than VHS one.
it just Disney's B movie, they already had it planned months ahead. it's a filler before their next big feature: Moana.
sure it earned alot but it doesnt mean much for them, it's just pocket change, they only released Zootopia to remind people that disney is still making other movies than marvel superheroes
Geez, I don't remember morning Tuesday threads be this dead
>>82891809
For a B movie, it did it pretty well, it almost reach a billon without be a A movie with literally zero advertising, no sequels nor previous instances. It's a sucess for its own
>>82891142
Doubt they could rush something through the supply chain just because of "demand." It was always planned to be released this early since the movie wasn't expected to do so well and already be out of theaters.
>>82892176
It did well, but that doesn't mean they weren't treating it like a B movie
>>82892176
well, fun cant last forever, plus OP chose meh subject to talk about.
i'd rather talk about favorite and least favorite side characters.
>>82891142
>7th
Wait, June 7th?
>>82892355
yeah, two weeks from now.
>>82892385
Finally I'll be able to find a good rip.
Now I can see what all the fuss is about.
>>82891663
Is this a joke? They don't make VHS anymore.
>>82892385
cool. I was in a coma and literally missed it when it was in theaters. I was looking forward to this before my accident
>>82891142
>Also the box art is super bad.
Welcome to every Disney box art's design for the past ten to fifteen years.
It already made all the money it's going to make theatrically thanks to them not staggering the release as horribly as they normally do. Makes financial sense to get disc sales while it's still popular and fresh in people's minds
>>82892457
mock cover, friend.
>>82891809
Would be funny if Moana becomes Pocahontas 2.0
>>82891142
So you want us to wait the traditional half a fucking year after the theatrical reason is finished?
fuck that.
>>82892385
3-4 months seems to be the norm nowadays
Same amount of time passed for Deadpool, The Force Awakens, and The Revenant, all three completely different movies
>>82892618
It hasn't been half a year in years, m8. Now it's more like 3 months.
>>82892601
you forgot about the power of M-A-R-K-E-T-I-N-G
Moana will be all over your country. Toys, snacks, radio songs, tv ads. Kids will drag their parents to see this movie.
>>82892286
Well, I don't know how Disney's business works, but if one of my products sold well (even if I don't expect it gonna sell well) Why won't I invest more in it? The artbook sold out in many places, even if it's a little profit for Disney, they probably restock books
Also, it seems Byron (Maybe Moore?) wanna work with Zootopia again, he just have to talk with the execs and show them numbers.
Even if it's a B movie, B movies, even shit ones have sequels it they keep giving them money, look that Sharknado films. I just hope they keep the quality.
>>82892457
Yeah, it's a joke, but who knows, Japan loves old and outdate shit.
>>82892618
Where was that implied? If anything, this is about how weird it would be to wait half a year to see a movie again. By then the hype is dead and it's competing with all the other movies in the store.
So cute....
>>82892788
>Gisnep being giving
lol
Maybe they're trying a new marketing technique. They want to get it out before the movie's buzz dies down.
>>82892895
It's weird that it took this long for them to try that. It just looks like common sense.
>>82892895
then they'd have new merch ready to go along the movie.
i havent seen any leaks on taobao, so your assumption might not be true
>>82892730
Moana is unmarketable. Trust me, I've seen Disney brands come and go, Moana is about as marketable as Princess and the Frog.
Little girls don't care about diversity on their lunchbox and that pig's a mangy mascot. Look at those subdued tropical colors of stylized oceanic wood print. Kids are going to hate it.
>>82892730
Well, Kung Fu Panda 3 had a big marketing but it didn't sell well, even China (bigger market) don't like it a lot. And you can't blame bad critics ala BvS, that's irrelevant for kids flicks (see Ice Age and Minions)
Anons in other threads said brown princess films are destined to its doom, like Pocahontas and Frog Princess, Maybe not even the Rock could save Moana bombs... but Who knows?
>>82892971
>>82893043
speaking of toys, does anyone when the van, bogo, flash and ZPD is going to be in stores?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLBbDRmPdSY
sure they're nothing special but........
>>82892730
Not to mention they're going to have arguably the only remaining true old school movie star in the world, Dwayne Johnson, out there pushing it.
is the 1b boxoffice dream dead?
>>82893344
patience, grasshopper. patience.
>>82892176
Well, Lion King was a B-movie for them too. They weren't expecting the James Earl Jones and Mathew Broderick led animal film to be nearly as big as their pet project American princess film with Mel Gibson.
>>82892971
Princess and the frog is what's known as a long term success. The movie made a profit, albeit not a big one. It sold well on DVD. The merch sells fine to this day. If it were a true failure, they would have ignored it like they do Pocahontas and occasionally Brave.
>>82893480
tell me, what's wrong with this
<---
>>82891142
'Cause they know the hype will soon die down.
>>82893344
>>82893370
Probably, most of the countries stop showing it, Blueray release soon, Japan, even if have good number for a animated film, is not enough and Turkey numbers are very low.
We already have 971, I go for 12 more for Japan, 2 for Turkey and 1 for the rest, so 984, but maybe Zootopia beats Lion King...

>>82893771
>>82894102
Zootopia would make more sense for both sections, bunny girl for girls and cop themse for boys, but i dont work for disney , i dont know that Rey and a round robutt is so popular among girls..

ignoring the spoiled text, there are gazelle toys and plushies with singing option. a one for tomy line would be greatcoming in bundle with a stripper tiger of course

kids love that!
>>82894722
That... Wouldn't happen to Zootopia would it? Byron wouldn't let that happen right?

12 more for Japan would mean it averages 50% drops from here on out. This movie's got unusually strong legs everywhere, so it probably won't plummet that fast, considering the Japanese release of the Blu-ray doesn't even have a date yet and not enough of them are skilled enough to watch it straight through in English with no subtitles. When Big Hero 6 was at around this point, it managed another $22 million there.

It was a B movie at some point during planning and development, until it was released and became the fifth highest grossing animated movie of all time.
Right now it's Disney's fourth most profitable animated movie ever, after Frozen, Toy Story 3 and Lion King, with chances to surpass the latter in the coming weeks.

sums it up nicely.
It isn't a bad film at all, but it re-uses WAY too much from Toy Story 2, and honestly the majority of the film was decent -- not great -- but people fail to realize this because the last twenty minutes are packed with so much emotional and nostalgic manipulation it's honestly pathetic (not to mention how the toys are saved from the incinerator is one of the biggest deux et machine bullshit moments in film).
Also it annoys me that it overshadowed some great animated films the year it came out. How to Train Your Dragon was phenominal, Tangled was great, and Megamind/Despicable Me were solid but it didn't matter. All anyone could blab about was Toy Story 3 and it's 'le so emotional ending'.
And now they have the gall to release a FOURTH Toy Story... the same year the third and final HTTYD is coming out. Fuck Pixar and their ego.

And I don't mean shit like Pete's Dog- er, "Dragon." Fuck that movie. A Temeraire movie could be the greatest thing ever, but some shit like Dog Movie 6: Bark Those Tails would come out in the same year and all the critics would switch on their inner teenage girl, "oh wow cute pupper all my love I just can't even. flying lizards pls there are puppy here I give all awards to cute fuzzy"

I can't say I'm looking forward to the salt that'll flow from certain groups of people if Moana doesn't do nearly as good as Zootopia did.
Zootopia arguably succeeded because of its timely message and word of mouth. It's the classic definition of a dark horse or surprise hit, because I don't think many people were expecting it to do nearly as well as they thought it would (like Guardians of the Galaxy).
Moana is pretty much fucked either way, because progressives and/or SJWs already have high expectations for it and will bitch anyways if it doesn't live up to them. (See 'The Princess and the Frog')
On the other hand, Zootopia managed to make more money yesterday than it did last Tuesday. Easing down slowly.
Oh, and it also took in five times what Minions got on its 75th day.

I did love Lilo and Stitch though.
Sure it's not big and epic, but it is a strong story that is packed with emotion without feeling manipulative (TY based Sanders and DeBlois).
But yeah, I have a feeling Moana is going to end up being like Frozen... which sucks because that means critics will over-hype it, the public will mindlessly sing one of the songs over and over again, it'll break monetary records, and win Oscars over far more deserving films like Zootopia and, depending on how good they are, Kubo and the Two Strings & foreign animation that constantly out-performs American animation in terms of quality... but never gets any respect (*cough*Song of the Sea*cough*Tale of the Princess Kaguya*cough*)

And besides, from what I heard the "almighty" Lasseter was not a fan of L&S (nor Chris Sanders for that matter) so I'm sure Moana is his attempt at making his own, Lasseter-approved Pacific Island animated film to make people forget Lilo and Stitch even more.
Also Tumblr didn't exist then, so it's 'diverse' cast is overlooked and doesn't count in the current year.
>>82893480
Literally the only reason Disney gives a damn about The Princess and the Frog is because Tiana was an easy way to further diversify the Disney Princess lineup. The movie was not a box office success (failed to break even domestically), unlike all the other massive box office successes that the other princesses come from.
But it was a good Disney movie that came after a string of lackluster ones.

>Also Tumblr didn't exist then, so it's 'diverse' cast is overlooked and doesn't count in the current year.
Huh, I never thought about it before, but Lilo and Stitch probably has the most diverse cast of any of the Disney animated features.
>main characters who are black, white, and pacific islanders, not necessary english speaking
>protagonist is an adventurous little brown girl with her strong independent sister, neither of which are the least bit sexualized or damsels
>only two human male characters, neither are white, who aren't any sort of heroes or white knights at all
Damn, you'd think Tumblr would have loved it.
>>82908529
They probably don't count it because it's too "weird" for them and wasn't made in 'le progressive second renaissance."
It is such a shame too since it might be Disney's best film of the past 16 years along with Zootopia.
>>82908318
>not being in the middle of a rub threesome
>>82891142
Who the hell is that Giraffe?
>>82908529
Tumblr only likes it if that's the point of the film, it has to be "IN YOUR FACE CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE FORCED AS FUCK"
And even then, you could have the most racially diverse cast ever and they'd complain about a lack of transgenders or some shit.
>>82891142
This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. It’s me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If anyone approached me on the topic of this not possibly being me, then I immediately shut them down with overwhelming evidence that this character is me. This character is me, it is indisputable. Why anyone would try to argue that this character is not me is beyond me. If you held two pictures of me and this character side by side, you’d see no difference. I can safely look at this character every day and say “Yup, that’s me”. I can practically see this character every time I look at myself in the mirror. I go outside and people stop me to comment how similar I look and act to this character. I chuckle softly as I’m assured everyday this character is me in every way. I can smile each time I get out of bed every morning knowing that I’ve found my identity with this character and I know my place in this world. It’s really quite funny how similar this character is to me, it’s almost like we’re identical twins. When I first saw this character, I had an existential crisis. What if this character was the real me and I was the fictional being. What if this character actual became aware of my existence? Did this character have the ability to become self aware itself?

CGI is the obvious cure if you feel that way.
>>82919579
I feel like if she were caught, every professional in the world will be foaming at the mouth at the chance to experiment with her, and she will be poked and prodded and shredded to pieces because all the "experiments" were impulsive and aimless. In the end, she'd have lived a brutal last days, and the "experiments" ended up not amounting to anything, and we are no further to understanding anything about her, and all we have now is a wasted, shredded rabbit corpse.
Humans do this shit whenever something spectacular and rare comes along. Remember Genie? The girl who never learned a language? Remember how she was impulsively experimented on aimlessly? Judy isn't human, so she wouldn't have any legal rights protecting her physically.
>>82919799
I really just want to plug into the Zootopia matrix. Just hook a machine directly to my spinal cord and bypass my nervous system so I can't feel anything from this world and have it be replaced with extremely accurately computer generated sensory.
VR isn't enough. I need to interface with it directly with my mind.
>"Why are you pointing behind me, Carrots?"
>>82919806
Goodness me, it really is a damn shame that even if we were given such a gift, men in white suits would destroy it and we'd be back to where we started.
I remember thinking about what I would do if Judy somehow appeared next to me. How would I hide her from the authorities? How would she even react to me? I regularly speak to people who eat rabbit, what on earth would she think about that? Too many questions... I really should write something over the summer for myself and try to answer them all.
>>82919847
I try to think about the computational power and physics behind doing that and quickly become very depressed. It will never, ever happen- at least not in our short lifetimes.
>>82919856
>the computational power and physics behind doing that
Yeah it isn't feasible with transistor-based deterministic computers. I don't want to throw the blanket statement quantum computing meme around, but when you add probability-skewed uncertainty into the mix, some really fucky shit starts to happen. Somewhere in that probability function of every qubit that didn't converge, is an independent reality somewhere.
>>82919856

I don't know if this is a fetish or autistic obsession or what, but I've always fantasized about being the special snowflake that has the privilege of experiencing first contact in some way, and postulate how things would work out.
When I was in grade school, I used to imagine what it would be like to meet Sonic for the first time, and tag along with him and the gang and fight the evil Dr. Eggman. I'd then think about how I could blow everyone's mind because I had access to this thing called a chaos emerald and I'd get to skip school whenever the team needed me to go to space or something.

>tfw I do a maths degree so don't know whether this post is legitimate or /sci/-based memery
Kidding, of course, but I'll still be very surprised if we can do Red Dwarf style VR within the next 50 years or so. I think that for now, the best solution is to create your own art (written, rendered, or traditional) of the universe and Judy. Born too soon, eh?

That webrip is a bit messed up in spots. In this frame her ears pop-up when she hears tires screeching. But in the webrip that sound isn't even there. Strange. Only 2 weeks to the dvd release.

Nah, the best solution is to document every thought you ever have online. Get as much of your thoughts out there as possible. Eventually, the internet's AI algorithms will consequently bring it to life, if only partially.

I didn't use the translator, but the gist is clear. Dan"man, this is depressing.
Nick learns some will never see him for what he is no matter what he does the hard way.
On the other hand, enough time spent looking at those comics and trying to manually decipher characters means I might one day learn how to actually read that squiggle language.
>>82920109
I'm sure that once you actually get into the extreme habit of writing, you won't have such meta thoughts about it all the time. Reminder that people have written journals/diaries about their deepest thoughts and desires for millenia.
>>82920231
I'm actually minoring in Japanese at uni. It's really not difficult once you get into it. I've been doing it for a few years now and it doesn't even feel exotic to me anymore.
>>82920231
Enjoy the grammar...
>>82920233
I was just being a bit facetious, I understand what you mean (algorithm would need a bit of work though).
>>82920268
I initially started studying it when I was around 16 or so. Never heard of anime at the time, I just had to choose one foreign language and decided to go for something challenging.
If I'd stuck with it with actual serious study instead of casual times, I'd probably be completely fluent by nowbecause that was twenty years ago.
>>82920280
Nigga Japanese grammar is easy as fuck.
出来ない
>>82920319
It actually is? Huh, I was just going off of how difficult Korean was tb͏h. What sort of proficiency are you at?
>>82920300
Eh, it's alright. It's really difficult to learn a language JUST on the grounds that it's actually a complete lifestyle change. I must say I dipped really hard this semester, but I feel oddly motivated to study it today. Either way, I have my last final in a couple hours and a job interview tomorrow.
>>82920340
Well I just finished the Genki series. I think that puts me just barely at the JLPT level 4? I'm starting my fifth semester September.
The thing about Japanese grammar is that it is SO easy, you can actually trip on it and fall over sometimes. Like, some kind of expression comes up that you know is some wild exception in English, and it ends up going over your head the first time because it turned out to be simple and you were just making shit harder for yourself. This is pretty much how the entirety of learning Japanese feels to me.
And after all that time taking four terms of community college Japanese, I end up at a Korean university for years instead.
I like where this thread is going. It's livelier and comfier than what we have had last week.
It's nice having your company, for the last couple of weeks I feel my soul grows and little holes are getting patched up seemingly by themselves.
Ah, the Renaissance of these threads we will enjoy once bluray comes.
>>82920415
I think you won the lottery in terms of Zootopia, family. This movie has a lot of Korean artwork for some reason. People ask me to translate moon for them and I have to say to them I can't read that shit it's Korean not Japanese.
>>82920411
That doesn't sound as bad as I thought it did. Guess I over-estimated the difficulty. What do you intend to use your Japanese for?
>>82920415
What was the learning culture like at the university? Always seem to be catching Korean students at my university leaving to go do some revision in the library at ridiculous times (3, 4 in the morning).
>>82920448
Likewise. I feel like I've always had a /zoo/ thread open on my laptop now for the past few weeks. Let's keep this going for a while.
>>82920461
Yeah, but the strengths of knowing how to read hangul is that it's simple. You look at it, you type it into the online translator, 모든은 좋습니다. But I still don't know enough Korean to communicate with. I've listened to so much more Japanese over the decades than Korean that I'm much more familiar with the sound of Japanese, whereas with Korean I can just read and transliterate it easier.
At least now I'm motivated for the first time in years to put actual time into this.
>>82920520
As an American student in Korea, it was okay as long as the professors were teaching in English (which was surprisingly often in the earlier classes, not so much later on). Ended up not completing both programs.
>>82920520
>What do you intend to use your Japanese for?
Shieeeit, I still don't entirely know. It's mainly a combination of wanting to break myself of the monolingual curse, wanting to be in touch with a vastly different society, wanting to be able to read a non-alphabetic language, wanting to be able to comprehend a vastly different grammatical structure, and Nintendo. Also I'm a computer engineer major and Japan has its fair share of electronics engineering. Maybe I could work for an American company and communicate with a Japan-based partition of the company on occasion.
>>82920560

>>82920560

Yeah, I know, I'm still working on it.
>>82920646
Can't really judge since I haven't been given any opportunity to mess up just yet. Hope that you're shilling Zootopia at your cinema, anyway.
>>82920715
Not much opportunity to. You'd have to work box office for any chance to influence ticket purchases and I maneuvered myself into getting sweeping and projection work only, the least amount of customer service requirements available there.
>>82920762
Not so smug now...
>>82920773
Fair enough, wasn't being serious anyway tb͏h
>>82919579
I still find it hard to believe you can make such detailed characters using just computers.
I'd like to believe Disney is covering the truth up and they have a portal to Zootopia somewhere and merely recorded the characters and hired animators as a front. If not, what does that say about our own existence?
Our world is supposedly too detailed -- how do we know our world is the real one? What if Zootopia watches us and thinks about their own animation departments and how they made us so detailed?
>>82920872
Give modelling and shaders a try and you'll realise that it's not too extraordinary. As for the theory, I'd dedicate my entire life to finding and going through that wormhole.
Not gonna lie, I hope these threads become a staple because they're super comfy
