Round-up of recent leaks and rumors.

>30,000 years ago, an alliance between Man, the Atlanteans and the Amazons repelled Darkseid's invasion on Earth, and Darkseid's secret weapon, the Mother Boxes, were left behind and divided among the three races.

>Themyscira and Atlantis entered a centuries-long feud that led both to abandon the human race.

>Black Canary was the leader of the human alliance.

>On present day, Batman is attempting to recruit meta-humans to defend Earth in the wake of Superman's death. He and Wonder Woman approach Aquaman, but he declines due to his grievances with both the Amazons and the humans.

>The Flash and Cyborg join Batman's team, and become friends as they're both rookies struggling to control their powers, and the youngest members of the team.

>Lex Luthor's experiments with the Kryptonian scout ship have provided a map to Earth. Steppenwolf then attacks the planet with a horde of parademons to retrieve the Mother Boxes so Apokolips can continue its efforts to subjugate the Universe.

>The Mother Boxes are scattered on Themyscira, Atlantis and with the United States government, and the Justice League races against time to retrieve them before Steppenwolf. Aquaman begrudgingly joins their efforts.

>Cyborg is instrumental to repelling Steppenwolf's offensive as he was rebuilt with Apokoliptian technology from the Mother Box.

>Meanwhile, Superman begins his journey to return to life.

>Darkseid only appears in the prologue and the epilogue.

>The post-apocalyptic future in Batman's visions will be revisited.

>Lois Lane, Perry White, Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, Iris West, Mera and Silas Stone have minor roles.

>Willem Dafoe is playing an Atlantean elder privy to the secrets of Darkseid's attack.

I try to imagine a Shazam / Captain Marvel movie who miraculously is hailed by fans and critique as a film masterpiece. An exciting solar film with a young protagonist who likes to be a hero and is an example of honesty and heroism without unnecessary angst.

A film that realizes alone something like 1.5 billion... yeah, not gonna happen, but it's just a dream.

If something like this were to happen, DC would have the head for reconsider the basis of their entire cinematic universe and kick out Snyder?

sortof.

our knowledge of ancient history is spotty.

Stonehenge is 2000-3000BC.
Sphinx 2500BC
various tombs and pyramids 2000-4000BC.

some kind of ritual ground. 10,000BC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6bekli_Tepe

Oldest known buildings are 21,000BC ( a walled cave)

Some theorize human settlements/cities are at least as old as 30,000BC. Just wood, etc. Materials that would not last long enough for us to find.

What were the flaws? Visuals were alright to me. Good sounds, music was amazing. I don't understand the "bad editing" meme because the scenes flowed well to me, unlike in Batman Begins where it jumps all over the place. The plot made sense if you paid attention, and everyone was a better character at the end, except Luthor because he's a bad guy.

>Everything about Luthor
I think Luthor was portrayed well. A "modernized" version who was still incredibly intelligent and menacing.

>The bullets in africa plot
It shows why the government didn't get involved to clear Superman's name. The government in the DCEU is resourceful, but cowardly. If investigated, the military would be implicated, as shown by Lois's first conclusion that it must have been the military who gave them the bullets.

>Grumpy superman all around
This was an important part of the movie. He wanted to save people without seeming like a god and didn't know how to stop them from worshipping him without making it worse. He felt he finally had the chance to at the courthouse, but then it blew up.

>Freaking red lights everywhere in the fight with doomsday. So many lights. Doesn't he know explosions lose impact if you put one after the other?
That's fair. I personally liked it and thought it was a good way to show Doomsday's power and how it grows based on the energy absorbed though.

>Superman not finding a non retarded way to explain the situation without a fight.
I don't think any way could have worked. It would just make the scene slightly different, considering how Batman was out for blood until the Martha scene.

>Superman dying to rise 10 minutes later.
Superman's sacrifice isn't any less heroic just because you know he's coming back. Similar to Jesus (thanks Snyder). But also similar to Captain America's fight with Bucky in Winter Soldier. HE didn't know for sure that he would survive, but the audience did.

>Superman needing bjs for emotional support.
He learned it from his dad. "Yeah well I was mad like you 'til I met your mom. Trust me, getting a gf solves ALL your problems."

I think Martha was a good scene that was in line with Batman's emotional character.

YOU CAN NOT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A ONE ON ONE FIGHT TO SAVE PEOPLE.
IT WOULD BE DIRECTLY GIVING YOUR OPPONENT A OPPORTUNITY TO ATTACK YOU, WHO YOUR RESCUING OR OTHER PEOPLE.
Zod said he would kill every person on earth to spite Clark.
Clark doing ANYTHING but keeping Zod focused on himself would have been horrifically reckless.
The one time Clark let his guard down and looked back up at the parking garage Zod was INSTANTLY upon him punching him down.
Had that been Clark carrying someone to safety then that person would have been ripped out of his arms into pieces.

Yeah, "for some reason" people expect heroes to be eroic. How weird. Out of this world. Such irrational expectations. Obviously all you need to be a hero is punching someone, especially if you're Superman. If you have such amazing powers, it is your precise duty to punch a supervillain, possibly causing damage in the process. All the rest? Pointless bullshit, just let humans save themselves while you punch and look angry, and the burning eyes make for a good shot too!

That's honestly too eloquent to be Zack.
That's the thing that bugs me the most. Zack's fans (and at this point I think it's not even fans. I think it's contrarian douchebags) create this huge articulate mythology around the guy but Zack himself?

"I just like skulls...I dunno. Arex are cool. I just like them. We just gotta explore it. I could have them talk, but I don't know, you know? It just didn't feel right."

It's like Snyder's fans are those new age indigo child parents that see their kid shitting in the middle of a grocery store and interpret that as them being a free spirit that throws off the shackles of conventional society.
>>
>>82857630

>The bullets in africa plot
The main problem was how much time was spent showing Lois investigating the plot, because Superman figures it out by himself. Lois never tells anyone what she learns and it becomes irrelevant.

Clark gets punched away a dozen times in the fight and Zod follows him. Zod doesn't go smashing cars. He doesn't go to find another civilian to kill, he follows Clark the entire time.

Capslock won't change that, and it won't change the fact that the lack of attempt on Clark's part is a characterizing action.
>>

>I think Luthor was portrayed well
>intelligent and menacing
No. What would make him intelligent and as a result menacing was having a good plan. His plan dependent on his enemies being beyong moronic.

>bullets
It makes no sense for superman to be blamed for people being shot by mercenaries.

>any way could have worked
Float and talk. Fly around bats fast while talking to avoid strikes.
Carve the message on a wall with heat vision. Anything

>sacrifice isn't less heroic
That's not the problem. It would have been just as heroic without him dying, just being beaten up. If you bring DEATH in, why bring it unless DEATH has impact. But it has no impact. It is undone in 10 minutes.

>supes learned from his dad
Yes, and? He could have learned it from his dad. He could also behave differently from his dad, he doesn't have to copy. Both are valid. Why Snyder thought an emotionally crippled and dependant supes is entertaining is the question.

>grumpy because they see him like god
Again, as above. He could have been concerned without being a whiny moping cryfestival. Snyder's version was also possible, yes, but again, why choose this as your main hero?

And yo still have : he could keep track of lois by her heartbeat everywhere, but not his mom? Why?
>>
>>82857481
Well first of all, I figured that even if I didn't like how things played out in MoS, I thought that Snyder would stick to his guns and do what he wanted to do when it came to fights considering all he said to justify all the destruction in MoS. I mean, you remember all that stuff he said right? About how he wanted to convey the real threat of destruction? Seeing him completely balk on this in an attempt to win back the crowd in such a poor manner (seriously, THREE TIMES they said "x place was abandoned) is just embarassing.

Second, I was already not liking the movie since the bomb went off and we didn't get to hear Supes relay his view to the rest of the world but when I realized none of this really mattered because it was just going to end in one big slobberknock against a cave troll, I was kind of just annoyed at this point.

Last, I would have been happy if the choreography was anything at the level of Man of Steel but, nah.

>we just like dark serious epic as fuck comic adaptions
Well, one out of four isn't bad. It is dark.

It's not serious, because the lack of emotional range just turns it into a melodrama akin to mexican soap operas. BvS, for all its self-seriousness, has only succeeded in becoming this season's late night go to punch line.

It's not epic, because despite its size and scope, it lacks any acual sense of scale or surprise. It's all one big boring forgone conclusion with a wooden cast and railroaded, telegraphed plot decisions.

And it's not an adaptation, because when you take one page from a dozen different books and staple them together, that's not a new and coherent story. It's just a mess of references and over the top violence. It's a family guy episode, not citizen kane.

Your headcanon is not the movie. What's on the screen is the movie. What's on the screen is that Clark didn't try. The reasonings behind that are fanfiction. Period. Now, if you want to post your fanfiction, man up and do it on a site meant for that. I encourage it, it's better than Man of Steel. People might even favorite it.

He couldn't take the risk that if he flew away that Zod would not start blitz attacking people.
And he did try to take him out.
When he let loose with the full power punches In the sky he took Zod to the edge of downtown.
>>
>>82857949
We were obviously talking about BvS, dumbo. The movie that didn't have the one on one fight. Man of Steel wasn't even gracious enough to give us the conveniently empty buildings.

But sure, let's talk about MoS too. The thing is, all the excuses and rationalizations of the climax scene in MoS, plausible or not, are just that: excuses. I don't give a shit about them. Had Snyder and Goyer wanted they could have easily figured out a way to have Superman both fight Zod and try to minimize collateral damage and loss of life.

That's what the Avengers did. Ultimately it's all about how you want to portray your heroes and what qualities of theirs you deem important. When Marvel did Age of Ultron, they scripted the entire climax around a gigantic rescue operation because they wanted to showcase their heroes actually acting heroic and how human lives really mattered to them as more than just a statistic. Zack Snyder wanted to have the biggest fucking explosions possible and then have Superman kill a guy at the end for no narrative reason. Mission accomplished!

And don't you dare tell me that was actually the point and a set up for BvS because BvS does the EXACT SAME FUCKING THING, except now with a "Oh thank God this place is empty" hastily plastered on top of it.
>>
>>82858580

Comparing MoS to the Avengers doesn't seem fair because after all Superman is alone while the Avengers have a whole team to fight and rescue people. Granted Superman was only fighting one person, at least after dealing with the world engines, but he's fighting someone who's just as strong as him and this is his first outing as a "superhero." I'm not saying you have to like it but just putting my two cents out there.

>This is like saying Requiem for a Dream isn't sserious because it's mostly 1 dark tone through out.
Requiem for a dream had a more personal story. Small, personal stories are more communicative.

>Actually it has plenty of scale.
"Scale" isn't a quantative qualifier, shitbird, it's a relative one. Being big and flashy doesn't mean it's good. You need emotional context. It's a spectacle, certainly, but so's a firework display. That doesn't make a firework display a great narrative.

>Hence why large parts of both films are devoid of action.
Time spent without action is not good in of itself. What matters is how you use that time. Snyder uses that time poorly, filling it with symbolism and rhetoric rather than actual characterization. He crafts bland, wooden ciphers lacking in agency, and then puts them adjacent to imagery completely lacking in subtlety and asks you to draw conclusions from that. Rather than just demanding actual depth.

>Threaten a dangerous vigilante that clearly doesn't care about collateral damage and then LEAVE rather than taking that vigilante to the police.

Sure! Big picture!
If he were looking at the big picture, he wouldn't have needed the drowning horses story.

This. Snyder ruined the dcmu. It can't be saved. Too much autism.

>HE SAID THE WORDS OUT LOUD THAT HE WOULD KILL THEM ALL ONE BY ONE.
I find it amusing that you guys will misinterpret and explain away the "Maybe" but when there's no vosiuals or physical attempts to support Zod's over the top generic villain lines, that's 100% factual going to happen yes sir.
>>
>>82858605
>they could have easily figured out a way
Not without Zod looking incredibly incompetent and non menacing.
And it would have lacked the build up to justify killing Zod.
>EXACT SAME FUCKING THING
Except Clark took DD into space almost immediately.
And no large buildings fell.
dumbass.
>>
>>82859056
So you're just going on a "maybe".
The fact is Snyder ignores physics. Just like he'll ignore anything and everything else, in order to do what he thinks is cool in that moment. Trying to create a working lore around that kind of ADHD storytelling just makes you guys look silly and desperate.
>>
>>82858717
Because he is still in the fight.
Had Clark flew out of town to lure Zod out like people have said he should.
Zod would gave taken that for cowardice and god knows what he would have done then.
IT WAS TOO BIG A RISK!

It still does, because you don't understand that the justification for having the hero kill the bad guy never comes from the bad guy. It comes from the HERO.

That's just fanfiction. There's a 50/50 chance that he was so focused on Clark that he wanted Clark to be the first to die and would've followed him. I WILL FIND HIM, remember?

No I'm fine with the crybaby fucks that just don't like violence in a Superman movie.
I have a problem with the people that actively lied about what transpired on the screen.

>Being big and flashy doesn't mean it's good.
Certainly, Bayformers is proof of such. So is Sucker Punch.
>You need emotional context.
MOS/BVS gave me that.
>Oh. You're that guy again. Bro, I am BEGGING you to read more comics than Earth One. Your ignorance of the franchise is palpable.
I have read a good amount more then EO, I don't even like EO, it's just the most similar world to Mos that I have encountered in terms of realism.
>>
>>82859190
>Not without Zod looking incredibly incompetent and non menacing.
He's already incompetent and non menacing. But aside from that I can come up with five different ways to do it off the top of my head. They had years and were paid millions to do it.

>And it would have lacked the build up to justify killing Zod.
Fine. There's no thematic or narrative reason to kill Zod anyway.

>Except Clark took DD into space almost immediately.
And then Batman dragged him back into the city because bringing Kryptonite there instead is impossible.

>And no large buildings fell.
They leveled Gotham docks you moron. Superman pushed Doomsday into a fucking refinery or something for literally no reason than to have a cool explosion shot.

I haven't read any of Byrne's run.

Then I'm happy for you, but you need to recognize that your bar is low.

Then you need to read more. Go read The Nail and Flashpoint, and True Brit, and Secret Identity to start with.

Marvel movies will never be BTFO now that Perlmutter is gone, at least they are trying to make a Black Widow movie
Take this as a daily reminder that we had a talking racoon on screen before an actual super heroine movie, think about that next time you say there is no patriarchy

>There is considering the realistic big picture and predicting preposterous shit dude.
Let's review.

Jonathan says Clark has to be careful with his secret so that the government doesn't come and try and dissect him.
(This supposedly ISN'T predicting preposterous shit and is apparently a real enough danger to Clark/The World that Jonathan is willing to sacrifice himself for more time on the doomsday clock)
Clark then leaves an alien corpse in the middle of a crowded city to go make out with his girlfriend some more.
The government takes possession of the corpse, and ultimately Lex takes it to dissect.
Jonathan's prediction has thus come true; the first alien body that humans get their hands on gets dissected and used for ill.
Clark then, was warned this would -or at the very least could- happen.

So how is that predicting preposterous shit? It's what actually happened. If anything it's the BIGGEST piece of evidence you have that Jonathan actually knew what he was talking about. I've made your case defending Jonathan FOR you now and you're still arguing against it.

Why the god damn fuck do people keep forgetting that the kiss was BEFORE the fight.

>No... as it was in MOS he was a incredibly powerful and badass foe.
He wasn't powerful enough to hurt Clark. He wasn't badass enough to beat Jor-el. He wasn't imposing or threatening, with his lisp and comb over.

He killed a bunch of people (more accurately his ship did.) but so do earthquakes in disaster movies and we don't consider them "badass" or "competent'" for doing so.

>What does this even fucking mean?
It means if you're going to have Clark kills someone, you have to build up his reluctance to do so better than Zack did for it to have the emotional impact he, and you, claim it does.
>>
>>82859887
It's preposterous that the military would be incompetent enough to let a madman have the body, it's preposterous that they would deform the body into a hulking engine of destruction.
>>
Guys......we have this fight nearly every. fucking. day. Can we get back to the topic at hand and discuss how JL is royally fucked?
>>
>>82859864
>The Nail & Flashpoint aren't grounded or realistic in anyway.
Really? Let's think about that for a second.
JLA: The Nail has the media running an anti-metahuman campaign. It has the government using what few alien artifacts it can find and reverse engineering them for weapons, culminating in Luthor finding alien DNA and combining it with human DNA to create hybrid clone monsters. It even has a guy in a wheelchair, that was injured in a fight between superhumans, that goes in front of the government and argues that they're a danger that needs controlling.

Does any of that sound familiar to you? If you want to say those creative/story decisions are unrealistic, I' might be willing to agree with you. Provided you're consistent in that belief.
>>
>>82859949
That's why I said "Some more".
We don't KNOW what Clark does immediately after the fight because the denouement consisted of "Time skip! Everything is good now! Welcome to the planet! Get it? Because he's an alien! Isn't he kinda hot! People are smiling and I'm using warm colors! That means it's a happy ending! Everything's cool, right? You're coming back for the sequel, right?"
>>
>>82859817
>And they chose to give us a realistic belevibale world and a lead that doesn't have mary sue solve everything powers that break any and all immersion in the film you ungrateful cocksucker.
There isn't a laughing gif big enough...

>Being one of the most powerful moments in comic book film history isn't a valid reason to do it?
Don't be an idiot. You need to actually have narrative build up for it to have any real power beyond "Superman randomly kills a dude."

Which is actually my biggest problem with all that. If you want to have Superman kill someone in your movie, that's fine. But have it fucking mean something. Don't just tack it at the end with no build up and no consequence whatsoever. Otherwise you're just having Superman kill a guy for the sake of having Superman killing a guy. Which is basically what it amounts to.

>Not comparable to skyscrapers falling.
Oh yay, they leveled a smaller section of the city. Truly heroes to aspire to!
>>
>>82859310
The movie was terrible. It's so autistic l, like your taste and general personality.
>>
>>82860132
Oh! I just remembered. JLA: The Nail also has Batman going of the deep end and becoming more violent after the Joker kills Robin (and Batgirl) and his arc is him redeeming himself and becoming a proper hero again.

I feel like I saw something recently with a similar character arc but I can't remember what it was.
