So if I understand this correctly, Eve left Park by way of not wanting to move with him, didn't contact him in years, agreed to meet with him when he called out of the blue, got dolled up for "lunch or whatever", happily had casual sex with him despite knowing he's leaving the next day - and now makes a scene because, why? Park didn't show up FOR HER but had other business? Park didn't think of her as his first priority in NY after all these silent years? Park didn't telepathically figure out her hopes and needs and control Eve's behaviour so that she wouldn't hurt herself? Park is Park. It's how he is. He didn't manipulate or lie, he offered, and Eve took the offer, and now is being a bitch because it didn't match her unrealistic daydreams
>>
>>82757107

Park left new york, they broke up rather than have long a distance relationship, booty calls her out of the blue, they meet up, fug before lunch because he's "not going to be in town for long", then park casually drops that he's been in town for a lot longer and only decided to call her when time was short instead of giving her a "hey, I'm in town for a while on business. I'm kinda busy for the next week or so but maybe we can meet up before I leave again?"

Which is the polite thing to do in this sort of situation.

note that if she had up and left she'd have been kinda stuck as his little housewife - jobs don't grow on trees and if you're working dead end retail picking up and getting a new job on the other side of the country ain't an easy prospect. They broke up because Park needed to live his life, and eve staying with him would have meant her also living his life, whereas eve wants to share her life with other people.

Also you don't bad mouth hannah, who isn't even a stoner any more.

I haven't read this webcomic since the beginning of the lasertag arc. That might have been a fucking decade ago. I actually have a fucking physical copy of the first volume somewhere that I bought dirt cheap from a closing Borders book store.

Is it worth catching up on? Is that the fucking guy from the very beginning of this webcomic?
>>

>and eve staying with him would have meant her also living his life, whereas eve wants to share her life with other people.

Eve doesn't want to better herself in anyway.

Park is sort of an asshole and you're not wrong about what would have ended up happening had she went with him but ultimately it would have happened because Eve wouldn't have cared to try and do anything with her life.

They're both assholes but Park is an asshole who has shit going for him. As much as "I'm angry you threw a drink on me look how immature I am losing my cool rawr I'm angry loser" is painting him badly Eve is still a loser.

>>
>>82757340
Maybe calling someone out of the blue to see if they want to meet instead of scheduling things days in advance isn't "the polite thing to do", but it's absolutely not a valid reason to throw a drink on someone.

They broke up, she didn't want to move with him because it wasn't the right thing for her, good for her but she can't blame him for that. Seeing how she was the one to make the decision of breaking up and didn't contact him for years, she has no right to be upset at him for not having called her first thing he's in town, they lead separate lives now. He called when he had some time during his trip and felt like it - maybe at first he didn't want to see her at all but changed his mind. It doesn't appear he lied, and she should have figured out how things are if she only hears from him as he's already in town and leaving tomorrow. He doesn't owe her knowledge of his whereabouts.

They've not been in contact for a long time and Park isn't responsible for Eve's emotions- he clearly doesn't really even know her anymore, he doesn't know her expectations and frankly they aren't his problem. She built all her expectations up by herself - she can be disappointed and maybe angry at herself for reading too much into "hey I'm in town right now and we haven't talked in years and I'm leaving tomorrow (yeah, calling you very suddenly and last-minute) but anyway was wondering if you wanted to get lunch or whatever". But her disappointment is not Park's fault and she has no right to throw drinks at him because things don't go as she envisioned.

Park may not be the most considerate person, but he's just like he was before, he didn't lie or manipulate or pretend that he or the situation is anything more than it is. Eve shouldn't have met him if she can't deal with that, but she chose to do that. Park just offered, and she took the offer and is now throwing drinks at him because things don't go like she wanted and she drifted apart with Gwen

>So if I understand this correctly, Eve left Park by way of not wanting to move with him,
Park forced an ultimatum on her at the absolute last minute and then made her feel like shit when she wouldn't uproot her entire life just for him.

Park does not respect the idea of Eve independent of him at all. Without him, Eve is just some stupid New Yorker. When he leaves, his argument for Eve coming with him is that "It would be good for you"- as if, just because he doesn't like his life in New York, Eve shouldn't either, that there's nothing there Eve could possibly enjoy or want to hold on to, like her friends.

>Park didn't think of her as his first priority in NY after all these silent years? Park didn't telepathically figure out her hopes and needs and control Eve's behaviour so that she wouldn't hurt herself?
Why the hyperbole? He is simply self-centered. There is nothing ridiculous about that concept.

Dude barely has a social life, it's just a list of priorities to him that he complains about. Sure it's great that he can angrily throw $50 at a table and think nothing of it but he clearly feels like he has something to prove with all those insults despite that.

Not really, that's the whole reason there's a lizard here. She was acting completely on impulse like the stupid bitch she is just because she wasn't invited to a wedding.
>>
>>82758483
Something that is wrong in the moment can still be the right thing to do overall.

We're not about our every individual action. There is always a larger context to consider.
>>
>>82759377
Throwing a drink in someone's face in the context is still childish to do.

There is nothing about this that was right for her to do. It's the comics way of having her show she's finally done with someone she should have been done with years ago.

No matter how much you want to waifu her she's being a baby. Park's not a great guy by any means but you could still replace him with anyone else and she's still being a child.

This is honestly something I would imagine strawman Hipster to actually say:

>Why did you just spill your drink on me the fuck
>We're not about our every individual action. There is always a larger context to consider.
>You just ruined my shirt
>In the grand scheme of things this was really cathartic for me haha I've finally grown up
>My shirt you asshole
>I've really learned something here today and matured as a person
>>
>>82759472
>I've really learned something here today and matured as a person
Not the guy you're responding to but making bad decisions and messing up (which is what the other anon seems you be saying) sometimes results in maturation.
>>
>>82759557
There is absolutely nothing to be learned from purposefully spilling a drink on someone outside of "You shouldn't purposefully spill a drink on someone." The fact that Eve has no reaction to it outside of facetious laughter in an attempt to appear to be the better person here just goes to show how immature she really is.
>>
>>82760399
The lesson she's learning here is "Park is an asshole, I'm emotional, and it's about time we admit we hate each other". Her laughter is geniune and she's not trying to be the better person either.

It's only a drink, you know. They've been doing worse stuff to each other for far longer. You shouldn't get distracted by the degree of rudeness that comes with spilling drinks on people.
>>
>>82759277
I didn't even register it was a "lizard brain" thing (didn't spot the outline). just thought it was a reference to something from a previous strip (or maybe confusing it with the magic lizard from Oglaf)
>>
>>82759377
Throwing drinks on someone and possibly ruining their possibly very expensive clothes is a fucking shit thing to do. Ruining other people's property and forcing them to walk home wet with fucked up contacts because YOU built up unrealistic expectations by yourself is a shit thing to do.

Slapping someone across the face doesn't really hurt them either, it's still totally unacceptable to do without serious provocation. You freaks should leave the house sometime.
>>
>>82758752
the contacts thing is more likely a reference to him being uncomfortable with them in the first place (and his character still being that way). He complains about them whenever he wears them and prefers to wear glasses, or at least he did before he left.

I'm actually surprised this comic isn't part of Hiveworks, the black hole of bland webcomics.
>>
>>82759277
It's not just because she wasn't invited to her childhood friend's wedding. It's also (and moreso) because she thought that things would be different with Park and they were not. They were together before he moved away, and didn't really get to resolve their feelings and relationship before he sprang his ultimatum on her and left. They hadn't been in contact since then. She probably thought that he would have wanted to see her if he was in the area, but she then found out that she was below basically everyone on his list of importance (that's the bit with his college friends and other randos in the panels leading up to the lizard one), which made her upset.

That doesn't excuse the throwing the drink on him, but it's not for as shallow a reason as you insinuated.
>>
>>82760953
>Sorry, ruining a shirt is not worse than ruining another person's mood or hopes.
A lot of people would disagree. Unlike a physical object, a ruined mood doesn't STAY ruined. Besides, throwing your drink at someone communicates just as much contempt as any spoken insult would.

Park may have been acting like a twat, but Eve well and truly sank to his level, if not lower.

Eve, for the most part. She threw a drink at him because he's the same old Park and she's the same old Eve and she's finally ready to call this bullshit off.

Eve's deluded and emotional, and Park's an asshole for pretending that his shirt or his dignity is worth more than Eve's emotions. Neither of them are presented as being "in the right" here, but keep in mind that the two have been trying to make up for eight years now, and it's finally over.

A spilled drink is peanuts compared to the emotional damage they've caused each other over all this time.
>>
>>82755274
That's one pathetic defence mechanism.
>>
>>82759277
So he has a life and she is a womanchild stuck in eternal adolescence, then she throws a drink at him.
She can laugh about his "old insults" but in the end of the day they'll still hurt her because she's a failure that nobody likes.

We only get generals when someone thinks they've found something that will "trigger /co/" (in other words, when something actually happens in Octopus Pie). Same shit happened with the party scenes from a couple of months back. It will pass - unless, of course, someone gets salty over that sentiment and tries to force it for a few weeks longer. The thread's not dead, but it's not the sprawling, post-a-minute thread that a "trigger" would cause.

Well they are, seeing as literally all he did was mention a social event he thought Eve knew of, and then tried to talk of how busy he's been to excuse not calling earlier and to change the topic away from Gwen.

It's incomprehensible to me that people are actually trying to imply that Eve isn't 97% in the wrong here. I mean sure Park could have been a bit more tactful but that's absolutely not any sort of reason to get splashed with a drink holy fuck. Eve may be going through a lot but she's still a cunt for taking that out on other people like that. Eve and Park have a long history, and they used to be pretty similar at the beginning.

She got stuck at a dead-end job because of a fucked economy and has hipsters for friends, but she also learned to come out of her shell and be her weird self. Meanwhile, Park was an asshole in the past and remains an asshole in the present. You don't call up your ex-girlfriend for a quick fuck and insult her and expect everything to go perfect, like jesus man what were you expecting.

To be honest thete is nothing wrong with giving exes booty calls out of the blue when you're in town, as long as it's evident what's going on. No harm in suggesting or offering. Also he only insulted Eve after she'd gone all psycho bitch on him and splashed him with a drink in public for no legit reason, anyone would get upset at that.

If Eve is so fragile about him, it's SOLELY her responsibility to recognise that and say "no, sorry I'm busy", or at least turn down instant sex. She even had a medical reason to not fuck him. He's not a bad person for seeing if she might be up for a fuck. He has no idea how she's doing and seeing how she's supposedly an adult, it's fair to assume it's up to her to evaluate her emotional status and make her choices based on that.

I really loathe this attitude, that people can act like assholes because others didn't manage and control things for them to keep them from getting hurt as a result of their own retarded yet conscious choices. Like boo hoo I chose to fuck you against my better judgement and eagerly prepared for it before even meeting you but it's your fault now because I regret it you should have stopped me

She didn’t want a quick fuck. She’s been agonizing for years whether she made the wrong choice in not following Park to Chicago. She took him messaging her and him saying that he missed her as a sign that maybe they could renew their relationship like they did years ago. Remember that they’ve broken up twice - the first time was because he was cheating on her, the second time because she didn’t move to Chicago with him.

The realization that she actually doesn’t matter to him as much as she thought what was caused the drink in his face - and rather than them talking about it, he decided to immediately go on the offensive and insult her with things that aren’t even relevant to her life anymore. He didn’t even ask her WHY she did that, he clearly had no concern for her.

In the end, what happened was for the best. They are so very incompatible and it’s better they not get together.
>>
Why does who's in the wrong matter?
>>
>>82761846
Park's invitations to various things are based on shallow pools of connection. He schedules people like he'd schedule appointments. He doesn't have friends, he just has people in his life that he juggles.
>>
>>82763406
I think they meant she has a "cute" personality, which is to say likeable, maybe a bit naive.
>>
>>82769176
"decided to immediately go on the offensive" wtf dude. NO ONE calmly discusses getting a surprise drink in the face in a public place out of the blue. Everyone would react with WHAT THE FUCK YOU CRAZY BITCH tier hostility, perhaps with the exception of oeople who intentionally try to provoke the other into lashing out.

I mean, imagine if it was you - you're in town, decide to check if an ex wants to see, they're very eager, you meet and fuck immediately, they're happy about it, you have drinks, everything's great, they get weird at the mention of your mutual friend marrying without them knowing, you sort of talk too much because you want to steer away from the clearly awkward topic, boom drink to the face.

Have you ever taken an actual drink to the face in public? You're telling me that you'd just go "you seem upset"? Because my immediate reaction would probably be screeching at the top of my lungs, possibly try to throw something back and then when the realisation would sink in to say the most scatching (?) thing I could think of, leave and cut contact
>>
>>82769490
It's more that it suddenly revealed what Park has always thought. His opinions of Eve weren't suddenly changed on the spot. It makes you wonder why he bothered seeing her at all if he had such a contemptuous and judgmental opinion of her. Eve was suspicious that he didn't really give a fuck about her, and she was right.

Obviously it makes sense for Park to freak out, but he chose to belittle her in all kinds of petty ways rather than freak out at the situation itself.

Pretty sure if I got hit in the face with a drink by someone I care about, I’d want to know why they did that. Even a “Jesus, what was that for?!” would suffice, instead of immediately grasping for insults about their personal life like I’m trying to desperately protect my ego or whatever. It’s even evident in the third panel that Eve was already regretting her rash decision until Park started tearing into her. Nobody throws a drink at anyone “for the lulz”, there tends to be a reason behind it. It might not be valid for Park, but he sure as hell won’t know about it because he chose to throw ad hominems at her instead.
>>
>>82759472
>Throwing a drink in someone's face in the context is still childish to do.
That's why I was talking about the even larger context, of Eve and Park's relationships. You're stuck in that one moment like it's the only thing that matters.

"Very expensive clothes"? The fuck? You sound like you're trying to impress your fucking dad.

"Losers" by what metric? All of Eve's friends have good jobs or are straight up business owners.

>He has a social life
He has people to see. But that's all he does with them.
>>
>>82769866
It’s almost like this person has Park’s memory of Eve’s friends. Marigold’s entire character development is even about moving past her “stoner life"
>>

>Very expensive clothes"? The fuck? You sound like you're trying to impress your fucking dad
I don't understand, in what sense? People can spend a lot in their clothes and can also like their clothes a lot. It's a basic principle of "ruining the belongings of others because you're distraught about the bad choices you made is wrong"
>>
>>82769866
No offense but that sounds pretentious. I'm sure the comic lays out what a superficial guy he is and how he has nothing but shallow relationships but to say:

She's not playing anything, she's just laughing in his face. She just realized what a huge asshole Park is and reacted accordingly.
>>
>>82772467
>>82772577
Okay look in the third panel.

Eve doesn't look good about what she did. She reacted on instinct and feels bad about it.

But then Park started talking, and basically revealed his hand. Park, through his anger, reveals basically everything about his mindset and what he has always been thinking the entire time. "I fucking knew it," he says. "I knew I'd find you exactly the way I left you"- despite the fact that Eve was the one who left him, he's just so self-centered he had to believe he was in control of the break up- showing how he had his mind made up about everything. And the insults really are old. He's had those thoughts for a long time.

By acting on instinct, Eve unearthed a side of Park that validated that instinct. Like when a dog fucking tears into someone's leg and it turns out they were about to rob your house or whatever.

>>82773500
I feel like you're projecting your past relationship onto a character with a story that we've been following for a while. I don't know why you're so keyed up either, if you haven't been following the story and understand the emotional stakes and release that these past few pages have been providing for an arc that's literally been going on for years.

I mean, this is kind of Octopus Pie's MO with big character confrontations. No one is ever 100% right, no one keeps their cool and walks off with a "sick alpha one-liner". The characters do grow from these confrontations though, they unearth resentments and what they actually value. Just like in Mer and Hannah's fight, Hannah exposed how much she felt burdened by Mer's needs, but also how much she felt like she needs to be in a micromanaging role for the friendship. It wasn't pretty and both characters ended up looking kind of shitty (Hannah more than Mer), but it provided a source of change and growth after a time. Point is, this shit was a long time coming and realistically couldn't end any other way given what we know about these characters.
>>
>>82773999

You stop seeing and talking to a person for years without expecting that person to be different is childish as fuck.

Just from highschool to college and then from college to having a job changes people a lot, to the point that they become different people.

So that's why is childish as hell for Eve to expect that his ex being all over her after years without talking to each other.

What everyone should be taking away is that neither Park nor Eve have developed at all. Park is still the manipulative ass he always was and deludes himself into thinking hes a good person because he -graciously- exerts the most miniscule effort into being personable, and Eve is just this emotionally, mentally stagnant child that expects the people around her to be mind readers and understand her needs and wants and when they don't, she decides that they're unworthy of her friendship even though she doesn't offer much to friendships anyway besides caustic, judgmental bullshit.

They're both awful. You shouldn't be rooting for really anyone in these pages. That being said, the author probably reads these threads, and I bet all she takes away from them is "hurr durr 4chan sure hates women durr" and wonders why that is when she writes the majority of her female characters to be, well, like Eve.

was this comic made with ''Blaster Nation'' in mind?
>>
>>82775701

Park seems to be the superior here.

He probably just didn't care much about HER, that's all.

I mean, yes he is a judgemental douche and celf centered but he was his feet on the ground about important stuff and he is moving on with his life.

Eve is just acting like a child while having nothing to show for it.

Can you tell me about popular webcomics that do this shit?

I know that Dumbing of Age by Wet Willy and Questionable Content fall in that category
>>
>>82775877
No, Park is objectively an asshole. He's the type of person obsessed with success and how he is perceived by his peers IE he's basically a classist douchebag who only values people based on whatever arbitrary definition of success he has for the moment.

Eve is just stunted, and openly hostile to people who (stupidly) want to help her out of the rut her life is in. She's also stupendously ungrateful, pious, and blames other people for her shortcomings in life, even though Meridith is desperately trying to write it so Eve is really just a woman who is the tragic victim of her own broken psyche.

thing about old insults is, if you're stuck in a state of arrested development, constantly stagnant, they're still just as valid.

she's a child who hasn't grown at all and he's valid in telling her off for that.

Park's lack of care for an ex who left him and hasn't contacted him in literally years?

If Eve had such hopes for him, maybe she could have, you know, stayed in touch over the years, see how he's doing and who he's becoming. But she just nurtured the daydream illusion and then got angry at Park for not having become her AU headcanon Park during the years of zero contact
>>
>>82773955
>Park should have refused sex and prevented Eve from making choices she'll regret, even though they haven't been in touch for years he should have just decided she's not fit to make her own choices and should have managed her life for her

There is zero reason why he shouldn't have had sex with Eve. People have casual sex all the time. He was in town, decided to make a booty call to an ex, ex was willing and eager, sex happened, that's grand. I mean they didn't even manage to undress properly, so it's likely Eva was very willing to fuck, might have suggested it, do saying that Park should have turned down sex from an eager ex he kinda misses because he should have telepatchically known she'll regret the choice she seems to want is bullshit.

It's Eve who's mentally not fit for the sex, and she's an adult and it's her life and her hopes and emotions, her free choice and also her responsibility. She's the one who knows how she's feeling, she's responsible for her actions

No shit? They've not talked in YEARS. Anons in this thread for example were saying that he can't call Hanna a stoner because she's not one any more - but Park DOESN'T KNOW that because there's been no contact for years. His insults being old just underlines what a fucking idiot Eve's been, holding on to years-old what ifs, because they're not the people they were and don't really know each other any more, they know the memories of what they were years ago. And Eve's been clinging to the past, but life around her has gone on

But that's the thing, though.

His main accusation is that "she hasn't changed" and he make all those allegations on thin air and his own assumptions.

It's one thing to not know that she hasn't changed, it's an other one to accuse her to have not changed without at least making a little bit of checking beforehand and making this whole assumption on a glass being thrown at him.

The very least he could have done was asking what the fuck was that for.
>>
>>82786721

I don't understand this. I don't get what the filmmakers were going for.

Don't want to get married? then fucking don't. There are plenty of guys that would love a chick like that.

Feel bad after fucking random dudes without getting to know them? Then don't fuck random dudes.

Her problems are all direct consequences of her own actions. Every single guy, every single one in this video gives exactly what she asks for without the least resistance.

>he make all those allegations on thin air and his own assumptions
Well but at the same time Eve threw a drink at him because she made all these assumptions and expectations based on nothing, acting on them in form of sex without checking anything about his thoughts or opinions or goals or who he is now. Park, at least, only got upset when it was shown to him that Eve is unstable and crazy, he was attacked first, but Eve got upset to point of physical escalation just because the assumptions she'd made weren't correct.

It's just such total bullshit to claim that somehow it's Park who should have taken responsibility and controlled the situation as if he'd owe anything to Eve. Neither of them realky bothered to stay in touch, neither of them knows or even cares who the other actually is now, both of them think mainly of their own needs and only saw the other as a construction they'd built up in their head that didn't correlate with reality.

Both of them knew it was a booty call and wanted to fuck.
The difference is that Eve knew it was harmful for her and did it anyway, and that Eve reacted with physical aggression when merely confronted with the fact that her headcanon =/= reality, whereas Park reacted to the same thing + getting a drink to the face with just some words and leaving (and even paying).
They're both self-centered assholes here but Eve is the one being aggressive about it. It's surprising to me how many are genuinely arguing that Park should have done thus and that for an ex he hasn't been in touch with for years and who suddenly attacks him in public like this out of the blue for not having contacted her earlier
>>
>>82787140
Yes, they're still separated. They met up with each other to hang for a little bit recently, but nothing came of it as far as we know.

Hanna isn't a mess anymore, at least. She and Will started a business together and they're doing well with it.

>It's just such total bullshit to claim that somehow it's Park who should have taken responsibility and controlled the situation as if he'd owe anything to Eve
No, anon, you see - he's a man, which means he has greater emotional control. He has a responsibility to act in a mature fashion when the women around him are succumbing to selfish fits of hysteria, because they can't help it. It's coded into their biology.

>>82787224
>Well but at the same time Eve threw a drink at him because she made all these assumptions and expectations based on nothing
Not really. she threw her glass at him because he was there for a while and only considered visiting her as a second thought for a fuck plan. She is not assuming anything, he is literally saying it. So, no.

>whereas Park reacted to the same thing + getting a drink to the face with just some words and leaving (and even paying).
Like I said before, the normal reaction would have been to as what the fuck was that for. Instead, he goes directly to some tangent accusations that barely make sense in the context he express them. Bit of an interpretation of my part, but those attack on her person rather than her drink throwing action seems to indicate that he actually has an idea of what went wrong and prefer to insult her on very trivial one has really no reason to complain about rather than admit it. I think I would have acted very similarly to Park, except that calling her name, I would have actually enquired what was the throwing glass for. the fact that Park Doesn't seems to indicate he actually know whay.

Honestly, those insults really seems to come out of nowhere and barely adress tha actual current situation.
