Your second paragraph kind of answered your first one.
I don't even understand what's wrong with them. They've been blessed with a fetish that shows up in mainstream, sometimes even non-sexual works; all they have to do is shut up and enjoy it in secret. Instead they all freak out any time someone goes shoeless. and now if there IS a barefoot character it's automatically assumed to be because the director/writer/artist has a "thing".
