OK, I haven't seen Civil War yet and that'll cost me some points here. But Spider-man swearing? No. Just no. If anything he's the one we can count on to say anything other than idiotic swearing. We have his evil repaint Deadpool for all of that. Spiderman is a free-flowing stream of verbal barrage, but not any swearing. Perhaps some of the viewers are so used to having their intelligence insulted and being told to not demand better, that it seems normal to them.

>>82682065
What else would you expect a teenager, who is in his first fight against other powered people, to say when faced with a 50 ft guy out of fucking nowhere?
And if you think about it, the fact that the biggest reaction Giant Man got from Stark's side was Rhodey's line, versus Spidey swearing and looking shocked is another (sort of) subtle way they showed just how new Pete is to the big leagues.

>>
>>82682866
I was disappointed in Pete. He's supposed to be a nerd and he couldn't even remember the name to the best Star Wars movie.
>>
>>82682866
If that nerd was delusional, maybe. Regardless of opinion about Star Wars and/or the reference in Civil War, Empire is a few decades old, which makes it, well, old. The only 'new' Star Wars movies are TFA and Rogue One when it comes out.
>>82682915
You think Civil War was difficult for Pete? Theres a good chance he'll be involved in the fight against Thanos.
>>
>>82682896
I said I hadn't seen it. And I'm just going to have to accept spoilers as a result of being too busy to go see it for now.
What, just once? Sounds like typical hollywood in action, using swearing to make up for a lack of interesting lines to say. "If you can't be interesting, be edgy."
>>

"holy shit!" at the sight of something spectacular is so tame by modern standards that you have to be on some other level of conservative (no politics pls) or over 70 years old to really be bothered by that.

I mean, if he were saying fuck this and that or cussing like Cartman then yeah maybe, but...come on...

>>
>>82683030

>Peter was being a nerd and underestimating normalfags, trying to jog their memory because he doesn't think they remember the names of them like he would.
This. A lot of nerds seem to underestimate how much normies get certain pop culture elements considered "nerdy". I've had someone try to claim on this site that Wonder-Woman isn't a well known character, when everyone seems to at least remember the show. He said "That really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?" and said "on the snow planet with the walking thingies" because he wanted to make sure they would get what he was saying, rather than say "Hoth, with the AT-ATs" and risk them not knowing what he was talking about.

I'll admit I misworded it a bit. I just meant it's well-known enough (the "I am your father" is possibly THE most iconic scene in pop culture in general). There'd be no need for him to reference it was "an old movie". Everyone knows it and knows it well enough to get what he's referencing.
>>82683287
Guy who's whining about ESB here, obviously.

Nah, that and >>82682581 were the only complaints about it. He was obviously pretty smart, something the other depictions did a good job telling us but not so much showing us and he did pretty damn well for a first real superhero outing, better than quite a few of the other characters in the film, in fact.
>>
>>82683226
Like that other guy said, if he was swearing like Cartman, then that'd be getting it wrong.
We've got so many bad writers, bad producers, making bad films out of good material, don't you ever worry where it starts? They compare two charts- the characters they have licence to, and the chart that shows them what's popular around now. They haven't read the origional stuff, they haven't read the stuff their focus meetings are making, and they can't tell two characters apart. Someday we're going to get some guy who can't tell the difference between Batman, and Negan from Walking Dead. Those are the guys waiting for people to say "I suppose once, would be OK, as long as it's funny." and then we have characters turning into Deadpool. Huh. How about that Gwen Stacey?

Uncle Ben's "you have a responsibility to do those things" in TASM and Peter's "when the bad things happen...and you don't do anything, they happen because of you" in Civil War were ten times more naturalistic sounding that Uncle Ben coming out of nowhere to say "With great power, comes great responsibility" like he was practicing it in front of a mirror. He never even said it originally, it wasn't corny in the original comic because it was a lesson the narrator gave at the end.

It does seem a bit out of character, even for a new version of the character. Spidey's the sort of dork to say 'holy moley!' or 'holy hannah!' or something dumb like that instead. While the 'good kid who doesn't swear' stereotype isn't much of a thing anymore because swearing is socially acceptable nowadays, Spidey is still a bit old fashioned like that. I think even a 15 year old Peter raised by old fashioned grandparents should fit the 'good kid that doesn't swear' mold.
>>

I think it still works given what we know of Aunt Milf. She doesnt look like the old fashioned, apple pie on the window still, old lady we used to have. She more modernized and youthful so Peter could be a bit less of a sheltered boy scout.

>I haven't seen it yet.
There you go. He lives in an apartment where someone is just hanging out in the hallway (nothing fancy that's for sure), and his aunt is 51 and gives a vibe of someone modern and trying to be hip for her nephew.

So it's not a stretch to think that he lives with people who aren't uptight, but you can still see that his aunt really cares for him and he also cares a lot for her (he repeatedly tells Tony to not tell Aunt May about his powers so she won't worry). He's definitely a good, dorky kid but not the boy scout, squeaky clean one you think of.
>>
>>82682866
Nigga, I was born in 1987. I consider ESB an old film. Someone literally born in 2001 would definitely consider a movie a few decades before their birth as old too.

Why do you want realism in a comic book movie?

Well Star Trek is a long spanning TV series with quite a few movies so that's understandable. But to watch the Star Wars ones isnt asking for a lot of your time, still if it's a genre you're not interested in skipping them makes sense too. I was never interested in Sci-fi all that much and after finally watching Star Wars i can only say that they're alright, just very overrated.

Any movie that has been released at least 10-20 years ago is old. Not counting a movie released before you were even born, nor old enough to be able to collect thoughts about said movie.

LoTR triligy is an old movies series.

The Star Wars prequels are all movies now.

>>
Old movie guy here.

I apparently have a very different definition of old than most of you. No, a movie 10-20 years old isn't old, a movie 40-50 years old is kind of old in my book.
>>
>>82682866
My niece is 15, the same age Peter, and she thinks all of the original trilogy are so old that they are unwatchable movies. Most of her friends haven't seen any of the original star wars films either or most of the prequels. Surprisingly, most of them have seen Revenge of the Sith and like it. I think actual 15 year old teenagers outweigh what kindergartners think of it.

Also, she swears, and her friends swear a lot too. Most of the neighbor kids her age swear a lot too.
>>
>>82688749
>They're kindergartners, you ass. They don't know anything. They didn't pick the movie to watch out of a Criterion list on a playdate. Their parents showed it to them and they just accepted it.
Oh, yeah, cause ESB is surely some obscure old movie right?

Apparently you're the one who doesn't know much about kindergartners or kids their age if you really think the only media they've been exposed to is what their parents have shown them. Or you were just a boring kid even by that age.
>>
>>82693315
Your niece isn't like most kids then.

(I'm also freshly out of high school, so if we're going to be going by anecdotal evidence I have far more say than you guys)
>>
>>82693275
I'm 29, and I consider any move older than movie an old movie. However, I'm not one to judge a movie on it's age, but on its' quality. The Godfather for example, may be 15 years older than me, but the first thing I think of to describe it isn't that it's old, I just think of it as a classic, or that it's well shot and written, et cetera.

Most of the people on this board probably can't even legally buy a drink.
>>
>>82693362

That's a no true scotsman fallacy. She doesn't count because she doesn't like it? Even though she's literally 15 and the closest to Parker's age of anyone in this thread? I admit she's one of the pretty popular girls, she loves movies and is like any other 15 year old these days. She just says that Star Wars "Looks old" and that the special editions "looks weird because they've add fake new stuff to it" ..(her words).

Apparently one of her nerdy girl friends loves the OT, and most of her male friends and boyfriends have liked them too.

I just texted and asked her, and she said the one word her friends would use to describe the original star wars movies is "old". She actually asked why I didn't just refer to them as the "old star wars movies".
>>
>>82693581
I didn't say she didn't count, I said she isn't like most kids. Just about everybody I know my age has at least seen A New Hope. I'm 19 btw, so it's not like there's a huge age difference between the two of us.
>>
>old people arguing Empire Strikes Back isn't old
>>
>>82693662
19 is old these days?
>>
>>82693662
I'm old and I agree, ESB is old.

Just like in 1980 they would have considered movies made in 1944 old. Same amount of time passed.

It's old, but it's still weird to refer to it as an old movie. I would not use that term to describe something that's still in the public consciousness to such a degree, something that had a sequel release less than a year ago.
>>
>>82694777
I'd use it to describe For Your Eyes Only even though a James Bond movie was released last year.
>>
>>82694885
People don't quote For Your Eyes Only every day, it isn't referenced constantly in books movies and tv shows.
