Just how powerful is Doctor Strange? What all can he do exactly?

magic

Read some comics and find out!
>>
He's the sorcerer supreme, I think that's a good enough summary.
>>
>>82680969
He's pretty good actually
>>
>>82680969
Whatever the plot requires.
>>

Really powerful at his best, and probably the most inconsistent character in comics. Most days Maggot could beat him, but sometimes he's bullshit powerful.

Well, Strange is a bit like Superman, in that the answer to your question varies depending on the era his comics were written. In the 1960s and 70s, Strange was absurdly powerful. That's tapered off some as we've moved into the modern era.

Strange is a wizard and casts spells. The nature of these spells vary. Many of them just use locally available magical energy, but others require him to call on an extra-dimensional being or force which will grant him the power to cast a very specific spell for a very specific purpose. For example, the Interdimensional being called Ikonn grants power to be used for illusions spells. When you combine both the spells Strange can cast on his own and the ones where he invokes these entities, they broadly add up to the following powers:

>telepathy/hypnosis (not on the level of a Charles Xavier, to be sure, but no slouch)
>astral travel/dreamwalking
>teleportation (himself, others, other things, warp gates, banishing demons, et cetera)
>telekinesis (flight, moving other things, et cetera)
>slowing and hastening of time
>time travel
>creation and dispelling of illusions
>the manipulation of raw magical energy, mostly to create magical zappy bolts or magical energy shields

Pfft sorcerer supreme more like sorcerer soup meme Doctor Doom is clearly the superior sorcerer. Doctor strange doesnt even have a soul

Then how come the one time they dueled Strange kicked Doom's ass?

>Just how powerful is Doctor Strange?
Extremely powerful
>What all can he do exactly?
Just about anything. The nature of the character is he can be wildly inconsistent from one appearance to another and the only explanation he needs "it's magic, I ain't gotta explain shit"
>>
This is him at his most powerful.

Yes
>>
He's probably best compared to Thor's power level, but focused on finesse rather than strength. Loki is usually presented as his near-equal.

Come to think of it, have they ever had a 1v1 rematch since the early Lee/Ditko days? I remember Strange's first crossover was with Thor and Loki, and Loki captures Strange in a magical duel after overpowering him, but that was back before Strange was Sorcerer Supreme.

who's got the motherfucking stephen strange image?

Dr Strange is the only one who can stand up to Max Power level Hulk.

He is insanely powerful.

Did Doctor Strange just blow up a star while in his astral body? I thought that affecting physical matter while in the astral plane was one of the few things he specifically couldn't do.
>>
>>82680969
Whatever the plot demands

Usually consists of astral projection, flying, selling his soul multiple times and shooting ray beams.
>>
>>82683241
and occasionally summoning elder gods to tentacle rape the JLA to death
>>
>>82683237

He can astral project within the material plane. He can also astral project into the astral plane. In either case, his astral form can still cast magic. Leastwise that's how it worked in the old comics. The Ancient One gave him a magic ring that let him still cast spells in his astral form. He's probably since lost the ring, maybe when he had to destroy most of his magical artifacts in order to defeat Urthona.
>>
Very powerful...

...as long as he doesn't get his hands crushed.
>>
>>82683309
I know his astral form can exist within the physical world, but in some Doctor Strange stories it was a plot point that his magic could only affect ghostly things while he was astral, so his physical body was helpless. The Eye of Agamotto was an exception to the rule because it has its own astral form, which lets him control the physical Eye indirectly.

How much of his power comes from the artifacts and how much just from him?

How does magic work in Marvel come to think of it? Was it all training or did he just have some innate magical ability?
>>
>>82687623
>How much of his power comes from the artifacts and how much just from him?
He doesn't have a lot of power personally. It's more like he has access to a lot of power, because he knows the right way to tap into much more powerful entities and ask them to help him. And when he gets serious he combines and synergies multiple higher plane deities.

And if all else fails, he could aways sell his soul again. At this point Strange has probably achieved metaphysical gridlock, in that so many gods, demons and monsters have a claim on his soul, that none of them could truly obtain it without first angering all the other entities.

Isn't that also only an issue a long time from now, because he beat death in the method of hit master the Ancient One before him, and now could conceivably live hundreds of years?

He's no more powerful than any other human being, but he knows magic.
Magic allows him to call upon favors from gods, demons, otherworldly entities, and even ghosts (if he's slumming it) and these favors usually come in the form of granted powers and abilities.
So he's as powerful as whoever he's got on his magic speed-dial at any given moment.
Oh, and the magic god entity Agamotto is a close personal friend of his.

>Doctor Doom is clearly the superior sorcerer
The funny thing is how you actually believe that. In a straight-up magic fight, Strange has not only beaten Doom, but reccognized multiple flaws in Doom's magic technique. Doom is a dabbler in the mystic arts compared to Strange, putting his faith in robotics and armors instead, all too often.

For gods and cosmic horrors, what's so long about a few centuries? A blink of an eye for them really.

But a long time for a human. Giving him the opportunity to sort out any debts he might have before then.
