I play old video games and watch old cartoons.
I don't give a fuck about the next big CoD nor do I care about what's on Cartoon Network right now.
I love listening to my friends get bootyblasted over whatever online shooter they're playing while I play something 15+ years old and actually enjoy myself.

Vines are just short videos
Like 10-second youtube videos that are on repeat
They can be cute https://vine.co/v/iaamWYQ1qI3
Or funny https://vine.co/v/iMjzJ76vwvL
Or just another platform for meme videos https://vine.co/v/igrjQ52XQut

Because that's why I've never used facebook either.

>>
>>82668364
Yep. First "Let's Plays", which still don't make any sense to me. Who would watch some one else play vidya instead of playing it themselves?

I understand Let's Plays. Videogames are expensive and time consuming, Let's Plays are THE videogame preview. Also it's like watching people play soccer or tennis or fight or travel or cook on the tele. We watch it because they can do it better than us.

>>82670329
Not sure how NuTeens do it, but basically it sends faster than just sending a pic
It has location services so you can shitpost using "geotags" where it has little designs for holidays and streets
You can take nudes and send em, and if they DO screenshot it you get a message saying "Your pic was screenshotted"
You can also send short videos, like 5-second videos at parties and stuff
You can add them to a "story" where your friends can see it for up to 24 hours
As far as I can tell, "it" has happened to you guys, it's just a chat thing that you guys don't get
>>

I thought I was there circa 2012. But something happened 2014-2015 that made me expand my horizon and say, hey, there's still quality on this Earth, and the envelope of quality is being pushed with the advent of time. Some main stream things can be good and beneath that, some lesser main stream, but new content is also good. I'm happy to be alive.
>>
Actually I was like that around 14 and got angsty about not liking most of popular culture. Growing up made me a lot more relaxed about my tastes and if anything I'm open to new stuff more than ever.

I used to be "the tech guy" in my circle.

then facebook and ipads and social medias and smart everythings happened during my late 20's.

I'm still using a desktop PC, friends don't ask me to fix things or even look at problems anymore because I dunno how to work an ipad or a smartphone any better than they can.

So yeah, it happened to me pretty hard.
>>
>>82671043

Same thing, but with Star Trek - particularly the slash aspect of it. What the fuck is wrong with the new fujoshits? The new actors have no chemistry, the new iterations of the characters have even less, calling Kirk/Spock "Spirk" or "space husbands" when star trek literally invented the use of "/" for pairing... fuck them all.
>>
>>82670987
Same here. There's no point worrying about it, and considering every generation resents the next it's a moot point whether culture has actually become worse.

The internet has had a colossal impact, and facilitates a lot of crap. But am I going to be a miserable cunt who's angry about it or am I going to take advantage of the opportunities it brings?

Like comics for one thing, it's never been easier to find and read them thanks to the internet. I'm reading all the highly recommended stuff I can find and it's a joy. I could complain about the industry all day, but I have the luxury of being a consumer so I can choose to only read the good stuff.

It's hardly a preview when you're spending hours watching someone else play the entire game. There's millions of movies and TV shows you could watch in that time.

Well there was this one 3-5 hour horror game called Stray Cat Crossing, as well as this Red Riding Hood type game called The Path, and I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, and Shadow Warrior, which recently went on Steam sale.

PS3 I was made aware of games such as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle and this anime cheesecake game about setting traps in Castle called Deception IV: Blood Ties.

I decided to give up Facebook a few years ago because I thought it was "toxic" for me, for the lack of a better word

I do have friends, I do hang out with them every week, but when I used to browse FB I wound constantly see this or this other group of people I knew engaging in activities and stuff I would've loved to be part of... it was worse during the summers because I always ended up staring at all these people having fun together while I was stuck with my family (I have young brothers so I kinda have to stay with them when on vacation to help my parents out)

And that's not even mentioning the "stalking" of my love interests' profiles, getting jealous and shit everytime I saw them intimate with other guys, or all the bait posts to get attention in whatever shape

Looking back all that stuff was just pathetic, I can't understand the appeal, like you said. It all feels like social warfare: people always informing others about what they do, people leaving passive-aggressive comments, people "spying" on the others' profiles so they talk shit irl, couples constantly deleting and remaking accounts because one of the partners is jealous about their lover's privacy...

Shit's whacky

Why do people watch sports instead of playing it themselves?

I understand that's not an exact comparison, but the general gist of it is similar. People watch LPs because they either want to get an idea of the game before they buy it (look at the number of views on the first video of an LP compared to the following ones), cannot afford the game for various reasons (shitty computer, can't afford additional consoles, doesn't want to waste $60 in addition to precious free time, etc.), like the personality of the person doing the LP (Youtube personalities such as Yogscast, PewDiePie, etc.), or if the LP is more of a walkthrough filled with information the person didn't know about before (Chuggaaconroy and the Something Awful LPs are what come to mind).

There's also the whole "living vicariously" aspect of it, which is why people tend to get real pissy if the LPer doesn't play the game "correctly", especially if the game is heavily based on story or first impressions. To use a recent example, a game like Undertale can only really be experienced one time, and people want to experience the same joy of discovery through other people blind LPing.
>>

>>
>>82673964
>Why do people watch sports instead of playing it themselves?
Because almost no one can play at that level that they are. Also the meta surrounding it is intriguing.
>>
>>82673964
People watch sports instead of playing them because they require some amount of physicality in which they may be lacking. Playing video games is one of the laziest pastimes, and ultimately only requires hands and eyes. If you have both and are in functional order, and want to play video games, you should be playing video games. Not watching Let's Plays.
>>
>>82668364

No, because I was never with it to begin with. In fact I'd say I'm more aware of pop-culture and trends than when I was a teenager.

"Aware of" does not mean, "a part of"
>>
>>82673964
>Why do people watch sports instead of playing it themselves?
The meta. The meta and competition behind professional sports is more interesting than the game itself.
>>
>>82670427
>>82673964
An anon once put it this way:

(Live)Streaming and torrents and online everything have eroded the social aspects of playing video games and watching TV. Recall that old image of the family or a group of friends gathering around the TV to watch a movie or play Smash Bros. That doesn't really happen anymore, especially not in the current economy, where most people work 70 hours a day and live hand-to-mouth.

Let's Plays and Let's Watch are that return to enjoying a series or video game together with other people for the first time. Other people LIVE - hence why some LPs even mention "blind" sometimes.

>but when I used to browse FB I wound constantly see this or this other group of people I knew engaging in activities and stuff I would've loved to be part of...

Jesus Christ this.

When I see people I like doing things together but not being invited. Even worse when they are your "friends".
When you see people doing things you'd love to do but cannot do either for time or economic reasons.

Or even worse, when you see people you utterly abhor doing well, having fun, or doing the things you'd like to do but cannot as I already mentioned.

It's the damn fucking worst. I become so full of envy, jealousy and bitterness I'd be able to fuel entire societies with my feelings.

Literally my exact train of thought anon. When I'm out with friends who use it, they will spend like 2 minutes each time they use it trying to get the perfect shot of whatever moment they're trying to encapsulate. It seems utterly pointless to me; spend 120 seconds to shoot off 1 second of an evening that is then gone.

I'm officially not with it because I don't buy into this social media tangent where our entire generation invests all their energy into crafting a digital portrait of their life that in actuality is a completely false narrative taken from choice moments they throw up to compete in the "whose life is better" arena on Facebook/Instagram/Byteme/Dicksnap/whatever instead of, you know, actually investing that time into enjoying life.
>>
>>82668364
Pretty much. I feel this more with social media sites, though. Especially Facebook.
Whenever I look at that site, I don't really see it as something you use to reconnect with people you used to know. It's more like a place where there's constant dick-measuring contests and people who backstab each other 24/7. I can't really stand the atmosphere of the place, and I'd deactivate my account if it weren't for the fact that my teachers use it to make important announcements/hand out assignments.
and if i'm hearing things right, employers also use it to judge job seekers. jesus dicks.

Eh. I'm an electrical engineer of 28, to me technology is progressing much slower than I remember as a kid, it's just that now normies and jews have gotten hold of it and are finding increasingly retarded and banal uses for it, and i've lost all interest.

Yeah it happened to it, but I got over it once i stopped using my phone for just social media purposes. Now I got Marvel Unlimited, Hearthstone, watching stuff, or just simply reading some book/comic/manga on it.

Honestly Marvel unlimited is pretty great for the price. After just watching marvel movies and cartoons it got to a point where I wanted more. Who knew some of this stuff was more interesting than the average manga?

Still have a facebook but that's pretty much for messaging and uploading pictures to keep up when some people, twitter is where to real fun is at if you wanna piss off some people for entertainment.

Yeah, you definitely seem to be on the autistic spectrum. Let me help you out here: You can just stop posting. Nobody will know. I know the Internet is all you have, as with many in your situation, but you don't have to try to "win." You don't even have to actually admit that you have nothing to say. You can just stop posting and nobody will really even notice.
>>
>>82688621
Look, I know you autists have that one thing you guys are obsessed with, and clearly for you it's horror movies. So I can understand why you got triggered. But you'll find that on /co/, just like in real life, nobody will notice or care if you just disappear. You need to calm down.

You also seem obsessed with greentexting and some sort of "board culture" nonsense. You should know that 4chan is an 18+ imageboard.

>>82688645
Is that all you got?
0/10 for the total absence of any effort.

>>
>>82688381

I think the point of irony was passed long ago.

I think it happened because the trendsetters, the people at the bleeding edge of culture, they're all fairly clever people in their own way. Or at least very charismatic and gifted with some particularly bizarre tastes, which they can somehow make work for them by just being so damn cool about it.

The people who follow, aren't. So what was once an honest ironic criticism of how shit everything is by rising up to the challenge of lowering the bar has become an excuse to be as shit of a person as you can't be motivated not to be.

And now that the left has "won" the culture war and declared itself to be on the right side of history, and that history itself is a thing of the past, we're in for decades of the alt-right as the new counterculture. It should be interesting times, for sure.
>>
>>82688653
Your responses were already nothing but autistic rage, and now you're even running out of that. I feel bad for you. Seek help.
>>
>>82668364
I'm in a complicated state when it comes to "it". Ironically most of the people I get into arguments with who are "with it" happen to be older then me usually somewhere in the middle of their 20s when I'm just inching my way towards it now. I'm open-minded and adaptable to the point where it's never an issue understanding "it" more then it's just considering it not for me.The Internet is diverse enough where I feel you'd have to be ignorant on some level to miss "it".

The only "it" that truly has me lost is how people view "social justice" issues or characterizing every opposing viewpoint as Hitler. I really think identity politics are a stupid thing and I'd wish people would stop trying to look for trouble and pick meaningless fights over it. Somewhere around 2012 it exploded and is fucking everywhere

Can someone tell me if I'm turning into an old man early or if I'm just dealing with morons?
>>

Is that what you're trying to pass off your getting triggered as? Look, you need to do something I'm sure you haven't done in a long time and step outside. Though I won't be here to read it, I'm sure you'll make one last zero-effort reply so you can get the last word and feel like you "won." Well, I guess it's nice for you to at least have something in your empty life to cling to.

I really am serious that you should seek help.
>>
>>82688670
Not that guy, but, I just want to know why teenagers today, who have access to ED and KYM and typically seem pretty well aware of what socially illiterate shit doesn't fly on the internet seem to be very interested in doing socially illiterate shit. I thought once Chris Chan became surface level internet knowledge kids would stop posting about their alternate universe fanfiction full of crudely realized original characters based around obvious fetishes. I thought once trolling as a subculture was recognized kids would have the foresight to realize the next level is reserved for only criminals and sociopaths. It's like social media mining our culture's the worst of the worst just resulted in self-sabotaging doublethink rather than an important lesson on how not to make an ass of yourself.
>>
>>82668364

I just rather watch Dragon Ball than keep with Super, and I did watched Dragon ball 2 days ago. I'm impressed hard they find ways to push interesting plot lines when back in the day they just kept making interesting stories even in filler episodes, you can see Goku training and level up.
>>
It's happened to me with 4chan. You people are way too nice and sensitive about stupid shit.
>>
>>82690282
I loved Battle of Gods and every prior, RoF was eh, and Super just killed everything for me. I question how much of this is Toriyama's work as Super's version of Goku and pals seems too close to Toei's instead of his. The worst part is the wanking of Goku and how he can punch universes into nothing and is "faster then time". I'm dreading the Trunks arc as they're introducing "black Goku" from another universe into the mix and it's implied Goku is getting a new form to fight the guy. Why do fans want MORE of this?
>>
>>82690511

I dunno man, we already seen Trunks a lot. He stayed the half of DBZ 2 in the current time, he was almost killed by Cell. I don't see it as nostalgic as everyone makes it, maybe because I have seen DBZ like 20 times, not even kidding. Our local tv station always put DBZ like once or twice a year.

Black Goku clould be Turles, I know he isn't canon but future earth doesn't have Goku.
I just can't wait to hear the reason Toei pull out of their ass to why Trunks is back.
>>
>>82690757
I was more talking about fans wanting more of Goku being the most special man to ever live and escalating powerlevel stuff so we're punching out multiverses soon. I liked how before this he wasn't even the strongest fighter on Earth by the end of the series and how his legacy in other canon material was creating a world where humans can defend themselves from the crazy shit out there.
