Spider-Man has super strength that easily overpowers both Cap and Bucky, it is no contest. They severely weakened Spider-Man in some parts but not in others.

>that easily overpowers both Cap and Bucky, it is no contest
you mean the Cap that could curl a helicopter? From what scene in the movie did you find out that Spidey was stronger than this?
>>
>>82657487
Spidey did stop a runaway truck flying super fast on his own and hold up tons of metal debris, stopping it from crushing him.

Struggle with a helicopter.
Spidey could easily yank a helicopter down, and that's without webbing.

but neither of those things imply Spidey easily overpowering Helicopter-Curling Cap

Not to mention that he was handling his own against Cap for awhile. When he shot his two webs when Cap was going for his shield, he was holding him back until he made Spidey lose balance.

Yes that is exactly right. The MCU can re-write power sets. Its a self-contained universe. Like how the Ultimate universe also has different power sets for characters.

You're a shill faggot. And also, you're ignoring that its still inconsistent. At times hes strong, othertimes he's weak. It's a flaw in the film to anybody who isn't a moron with blinders on.

spider-man pros
>they got his power levels right
> suit
>fighting abilities: he's still inexperienced at this stage and he only really won his fights when it was against a straight forward opponent. His spider sense was working, but it mostly served to confuse him rather than help him, as he hasn't learned how to act on it.

cons

>awful banter. He talked the entire fight and not a single thing was funny.

I'm pretty on the fence about him.
>>
>>82658624
Because he'd seen him do a standing jump of over 15 metres and pull his shield off his hands plus a bit of tug of war. He stuck around to make sure he was ok, that's what the "Queens/Brooklyn" banter was about

I bet you think Wolverine is the strongest X-Men too
>>
>>82658556
This. Spidey clearly outmatched Cap in strength but Steve worked around that and outmanuvered Peter. Also, no amount of strenght/durability will remove the pain of a Vibranium shield to the face. Ask Thor.

Also unrelated but. If HYDRA got to put their hands on five samples of the perfected Super Soldier serum why on Earth did they straightforward used it all to make 5 Winter Soldiers instead of reverse engineering the thing and make a super army? That was a pretty retarded waste.
>>
for people bullshitting about power levels, i think it was pretty clear that spiderman was tiring out quickly and caught off guard by cap's combat experience

i think everyone, even the russo brothers, know that a mature and experienced spiderman would most definitely not even break a sweat fighting cap, but right now he's just a little guy

I'm pretty sure its Scott whenever his punch dimension lasers are out of control and he's screaming JEEAAANN!

Cap would have a harder time agaibst a mature Peter but wouldn't be helpless specially if he's aware of what Spidey's abilities from the beginning. Remember Steve is used to rodeo with baddies way above his league.
>>
>>82658624
because a scrawny teenager in a onesie strung up cap by both his hands and held him back

he could gauge the guy's strength in their fight leading up to that point. cap's a strategist. he knew spidey could hold it and that it would put him out of the fight for a while

TeamCap was clearly the underdog in the airport fight. With Scarlet Witch and Vision basically neutralizing each other Ant-Man was the one thing evening the odds. And it's shocking how infrequently writers make him use it.

One of my favorite Spidey moments has him confront some of the F4 on a rooftop, he was chasing Venom (I think it was a Venom stand-alone book). Ben gets in his way, Pete just reaches out, grabs him with his sticky feet and fingers, chucks him off the rooftop, and suggests the others catch him. Couldn't lift a dude that heavy without some SERIOUS sticky feet hax.
>>
I kind of wish Spider-Man was more sarcastic than fan boyish.

More lines like the "Hey, Buddy! I think you lost this!" line.
>>
>>82660442
Maybe unrelared but i rememember the 90's show stablishing a somewhat clear limit to his stickiness. He can't sustain his owm weight on two limbs. That's why he crawls on the walls. When he got the Venom symbiote his powees were enhances and was able to stand up fully on his two feet while sticked to a wall. Dunno if that applies to comics.
>>
>>82660524
I thought it was appropriate, since he's basically a starry-eyed kid trying to figure out how to trash-talk these internationally-known superheroes. I imagine when he gets to the final fight in his solo movie, he'll be throwing out zingers with the best of them.
>>
>>82660552
I don't think so. Comic Spidey occasionally stands/walks upright on a wall just for effect, but it's probably not very effective in combat.

It was in the animated series and Spider-Man 3. But in the comics, Spider-Man has a chance against the Hulk, so supporting his own weight on two feet shouldn't be a problem.
>>

That isn't a matter of strenght, though. It's about how sticky his body is.

I went into this movie thinking it would be good but having no expectations for Spider-Man, I expected to loathe it

To my surprise I didn't, I think this little faggot is ok...some of the lines could have been better, but HE did ok

What sucks isn't tge Spider-Man its the fact that they shoe horned Avengers BS into his introduction, for what? This was dpne for obvious marketing reasons but it cheapens the character ans cements that this will never be a true Spider-Man one hundred

a friendly reminder that spidey can and has held his own against the hulk.

hes supposed to be near as strong as the hulk (however, not as strong) but literally holds back on people so he doesnt kill them.
>>
>>82663010
I could see Spidey kicking Hulk around a little before Hulk starts to get angry, but from then on out, power level bullshit starts and the name of the game will have to be evasion.

Actually, this makes me think about how cool a Spiderman vs Hulk scene could be in the movies. I'd love to see it done by Whedon or the Russos.
>>
>>82657328
>two opposing forces are able to neutralize
>but a 120 pound kid can be picked up despite being supernaturally strong

Cap was fighting smarter than Bucky. Bucky just met force at force, which would give Spidey the advantage. Spidey still loses Tug of War not because he isn't stronger but because he's basically nonexistent as a counterweight.

I think this worked as it should have.
Peter is OP but only when he's dead serious. And when he's in his prime. This Spidey hasn't even had a full year in the tights yet, so he's clearly got some leveling up to do. Spider-man is a fan favorite but he jobs a lot considering his overall stats.

Meanwhile, Cap got a major boost in the MCU AND 616 Cap frequently punches above his weight class due to Freedom-fu.
So the idea that he might be able to outmaneuver a Spider-baby, in his own movie, is believable.

I was really cool with them not line-dropping "With great power comes great responsibility" when Tony asked him what it is that motivates him. Its a nod to the audience that we all know it by heart and at the same time characterizes Peter as being so early in his career that he doesn't feel confident enough in himself to be able to speak the words out loud to someone else.

Really good, subtle decision. You can tell that those are the words on his mind as he struggles for other ones, but he's not sure if he's lived up to them yet so he doesn't use them.

Or at least that was my take-away.

This a good movie because I honestly didn't know who to root for, I was torn Capt was trying to do the right thing no matter the cost while Stark was trying to control the situation to prevent more damage but turning w blind eye (until later) to fixing the problem.

I loved that this was the first time we saw Stark "lose it" because his character is never in a state of not being control of himself hince the jokes but we got to see his more primal side proving he is just as human as everyone else.
>>
>>82660442
Look up the Spidey book written by Jim Butcher. It has several scenes that make use of this.

Early on he fights the Rhino and actually goes through a whole internal explanation about how even though he can't bench press 100 tons, he can lift up 10 to 15 on a good day. Add to that his ability to anchor himself... Well he explains how you have powerhouses like Hulk and the Thing, and while they can lift 100, they can't really punch that hard or they'd send themselves flying as well. While Pete, on good asphalt or concrete flooring can anchor himself, then let loose with all his strength, combined with spider boosted speed, and basically he lays into Rhino's face like a speedbag and then watches the big lug drop down with a big KO.
>>
>>82660524
I think he was a little overawed. I mean you go from stopping thugs on the street to suddenly being in a gigantic super hero brawl with a bunch of living legends. Its pretty impressive he gets as many joke lines as he does, it shows how he's trying really hard to be serious and not let Stark down. Remember that in pretty much every universe, Peter has always been a huge Stark fanboy. Far more for his tech level than his armor.
>>
>>82668961
That's adult Spidey tho.
>>
The best part of the movie was the fact that they didn't try to shove 3 stories into one looking at you DC and worked with the comic while adding their own real world touches.
>>

When spidey is serious, he's pretty damn crazy. His speed, strength, maneuverability, and of course spidey sense make him a crazy high level threat.

Especially if he uses the webs right, he can disarm you, trap you, or fling you up into the air and just rip you apart. Or come at you from completely unreal angles of attack, start bouncing off you like a pinball that smacks with several tons of force.

Spider-man's in the twenty ton area. Especially after things like "The Other" it goes higher. But even before that stuff, during pressing times like The Final Chapter and all that, he's lifted WAY more. Held up the Daily Bugle from collapsing at one point, or more just held up it's supporting column. Peter's held back by his confidence. When he lets loose..well, it's scary.

>>
>>82670568

This is why I'm happy they're playing up Spidey as being one of the stronger metahumans in the MCU. Spider-Man's powerset is an extremely effective combination with secondary powers that all perfectly complement each other. The only real way to stand a chance in a fight against him is to basically overwhelm him, to outclass him with raw power. In a Cap vs Spidey fight where neither of them hold back, my money's on spidey, especially if it's just in a wide empty space with no environmental factors to take advantage of.

This is one of the reasons why I like the Regent's obsession with Spidey in Renew Your Vows. He made a point of explaining that Spidey's super reflexes and Spider Sense were dangerous enough, but when combined with the powers he'd stockpiled he becomes unstoppable.

Not sure it's much of an excuse, but isn't Cap fighting a mind controlled Bucky, whereas Spidey is fighting him while they're just trying to escape? Dunno that Bucky would be throwing all his weight into such punches, and washe was probably not expecting a kid to be able to catch it.

How much is this based on the comic?
>>
>>82683463

The one thing that godawful Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon was starting Norman's obsession with him through Norman realizing how potent his abilities are and trying to copy them. I hope they do something similar in the films, maybe with a rivalry that brings up hatchets thought to have been buried during Civil War as to how to deal with the many parties after Spidey's powers. Hell, I would love it if it turned out there was a black market out there for metahumans.
>>
>>82682583
I dont really get the praise either. It was better than BvS for sure in my book, but still down near the bottom of MCU films. With the likes of Iron Man 2, Cap 1 and Thor 2.

Airport scene was good, and spidey was based, but mostly it was kinda shit.
>>
>>82657328

Spidey is super-strong, it's true.

Bucky has a single super-strong arm.

Cap has an entire super-strong body.

Bucky unarmed is not really in Spidey's league. Cap very much is. And that's why Cap and Spidey each have several volumes of their own books, and Bucky doesn't.
>>
>>82683696

Captain America: Civil War would more accurately be called Captain America: The Winter Soldier Part 2 With Scenes Loosely Inspired By Select Excerpts From Civil War.

No he's not.

Hate to go powerlevelfag here, but Spidey is like 50 times stronger than Captain in sheer muscle power.
>>

Cap has a massive edge in experience and combat training, though. He knows how to do this shit properly. Spidey learned to fight on the street. And in this movie, Spidey clearly states he has only six months of experience.

Pure power levels in Civil War are something along the lines of:

Vision, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man

Ant-Man, Iron Man and War Machine

Bucky, Steve, T'Challa

Black Widow, Hawkeye and Falcon.

nigga falcon dropped kicked a helicopter out of the sky he doged vision laser when he wasnt even looking hes above all of them in a leauge of his own
>>
>>82687876

Skill and experience doesn't effect power levels. You can have all the power in the world and not know how to use it properly, which is pretty accurately represented in the movie by Scarlet Witch or Ant-Man not being able to fight very well when he turns into Giant-Man.

You're all wrong and you're over thinking this shit.

Look at what happened.

>Spidey easily beats Bucky and Falcon
>Goes on to lose against Cap

He didn't lose against Cap because he wasn't experienced, he didn't lose against Cap because he was dumber.

The REASON he lost against Cap, but had no problem webbing up Bucky was because he fucking IDOLIZES Cap.

He read bout Captain America when he was in fucking elementary school. He looks up to Captain America the same way you would look up to George Washington, or Abraham Lincoln.

He knows that Captain America is a war hero who helped beat Hitler in World War 2.

He's a fucking fanboy for Cap.

That's why he argued with Cap, that's why he was so easily distracted while fighting him. Because he respects Cap more than anyone else on the Avengers team.

That's why he lost.
>>
>>82659799
I was under the impression it was the formula they used on Blonsky. It did make him kind of crazy, which is how the 5 seemed to me and would explain why they put them on ice and left them there.
>>
>>82657328
Actually what happened is Cap flipped forward and then pulled Spidey off of his feet; it was more of a momentum thing thing then a strength thing.
That trick has actually worked on Spidey in the comics before if he's not ready for it.
>>
>>82660552
...no it didn't. I don't know what you're thinking of but it wasn't TAS, he had no problems standing on walls in that.
>>
>>82659653
>His spider sense was working, but it mostly served to confuse him rather than help him, as he hasn't learned how to act on it.

This is actually a thing in the comics; regardless of what Handbooks say, if Peter isn't paying attention he can't react in time to his Spider-Sense unless it's a BIG warning that screams "DODGE NOW". Go read classic Spider-Man and start counting how many times he says "Spider-Sense warned me too late!"
This is why he tends to loose fights against his enemies when they first show up, as Peter is NEVER focusing on the fight and instead is constantly mouthing off and not focusing or taking the fight very seriously.

Peter is most dangerous when he shuts the fuck up and stops mouthing off and let's his reflexes and Spider-Sense work in concert like they should, but he so rarely actually DOES this.
>>
>>82687562
>Pure power levels
aren't real, even in fiction
>>
>>82687562
Swap Spider-Man and Ant-Man, Black Panther is honestly above Steve and Bucky, but bellow Iron Man's tier.
>>
>>82670568
I'd argue Spider-Man's biggest weakness is that his powers are attached to a doofus who doesn't know when to shut up and focus on a fight and instead keeps mouthing off rather then using his powers all at once like he should.

Peter actually DOES talk too much.
>>
>>82670568
Fighting Spidey is like trying to swat a fly that keeps bouncing off you and flying around you while you try to swat it and the fly knows where you are going to try and hit a second before you do and each time the fly bounces off you you feel like you've just been hit by Mike Tyson.

The fly is also calling you a faggot every time it hits you or you miss, just to annoy you.
>>
>>82688352

On purpose since he does it to throw his enemies off. I don't remember who it was, I think it might have been Daredevil or Reed Richards, but someone once pointed out that if Spider-Man ever stops talking during a fight that's when you know your in trouble.
>>
>>82670332
Even in comics everybody wishes Spidey would just shut the fuck up.
>>
>>82688378
Imagine >>82688374 this fight is regular Spidey.
Spidey when he is done fucking around is just as fast, only his FIRST hit feels like a truck hit you instead of Mike Tyson, and then he hits you three more times before you throw your first punch, at which point he is ALREADY behind you and hitting you twice more.

There's an issue of 90's Spidey where one of those Iron Man knockoff guys (the Guardsmen) fights him and he flips out and looses his shit and beats the guy so badly that it nearly kills him. The guy in the armor keeps mentioning that he'd just so fast and so strong that he can't even physically keep up with his punches and reaction times, and he keeps coming from these insane angles and doing shit like webbing you off-balance before he tosses you through a wall then web-slings a brick at fifty miles an hour into your FACE before hitting you three more times and so on and so forth.
>>
>>82684749
Groovy, thanks.

>>

I've always wondered why no one brings this up more in comics.

Like, let's say you had a crane capable of lifting up to a ton trying to lift some guy who's attached to them by a rope. The cincher is that the guy has super strength and the required secondary powers, but he weighs like 200 bounds max.

Assuming that the guy's super strength allows him to exert more than a ton of force through his muscles, he could definitely break the crane if he was anchored to the ground. Otherwise he's just pulling himself up.
>>
>>82693343
It's like that in the movies, too, though.
"Base, get me a line to the Colonel. I don't care what time it is, this one's waited long enough."
"Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason to get back in."
"I can't launch those carriers. Captain's orders."
"WOW, CAPTAIN AMERICA. I'm shaking your hand too long. WOW."
"Cap. Big fan, I'm Spider-Man."

This is a real-life folk hero who saved four hundred men single-handedly, wiped out the Nazi's secret SCIENCE! division, sacrificed himself to save America from incineration, and then came back seventy years later to save the world from total destruction twice *and* neo-nazi enslavement all in the space of like 5 years.
And Spider-Man does drop spaghetti and tell Cap he's a big fan as soon as he meets him, with no regard for the fact that Team Stark is supposed to be trying to intimidate Cap into surrendering. And he honestly answers Cap about where he's from without a second thought. The only people who are ever shown to not respect Cap are nazis and Hydra. And that one cop in Avengers, but only for like 5 seconds before immediately following Cap's orders.
