they saved a lot of money by having the CGI done in the Philippines if I remember correctly

Everyone everywhere has their animation done in Asia to save money, regardless of budget or scope of the project.

They probably spent more money on recasting to get big name actors involved and marketing than they did any other aspect of the film.
