Daily reminder that OP's gonna get waterboarded Guantanamo.

Just a reminder that King is going to make Batman an intresting hero again. Literally one of the only writers dc has that's worth following.
>>

For we are the low, the cursed, the beggar.

I don't understand why Tom King is garbage. More imput please.

Bearing in mind I have read 'Omega Men' (which is depressing as fuck, but it's supposed to be) and 'Vision' but not 'Grayson'.

Is it to do with that?

I think the general thesis is that Tom King is knocking it out of the park right now, and soon we'll find something terrible about him and go from worshipping the guy to loathing him.

>>82547670
>I don't understand why Tom King is garbage. More imput please.
He isn't. He's doing brilliant work and most reading his works are loving it. But because he's so great there folks on /co/ who keep forcing the "/co/ wil turn on him" meme. The only person who actually hates him is the autistic damianfag.

By "something terrible" you mean "continues producing high quality work" or "tweets praise for a female creator" or "writes a black character"

OP is fucking with Tom "did I mention I'm ex-CIA" King

Kingfags are the next Morrisonfags. I look forward to laughing at their attempts at explaining the depth of his work and completely unwarranted feelings of superiority they'll feel towards us telling us "you just don't get it because you're not smart enough".

With that said. Grayson is shit. Omega Men is good. The man is overrated. But the worst thing about all of this is how desperate comic book fans are for a good writer. Lemire's "gone" and so is Soule. Comic books are in such a shit state that I don't think there is a single marvelous (and no this isn't a pun) comic book being released right now. Everything is satisfactory at best. This doesn't happen in any other form of art.

>>
>>82548645
That's cause /co/ collectively refuses to get off of Morrison's dick. definitely the most overrated comic writer.
>>
>>82548482
Snyder was supposed to be the savior of Batman after he wrote the Black Mirror arc, since it was a return to a more low-key detective tone that had been missing during Morrison's tenure.

As soon as he got put on the main book based on the strength of that, he abandoned it to just do Morrison 2.0. That's when people turned on him. He reneged on the promise he had.
>>
>>82549121
This.
King is good but he's already being heavily overrated. There were actually anons trying to say Omega Men was as good as Watchmen. For what it's worth, I think Omega Men and Vision are probably the best cape books to come out of the Big 2 since Dial H, but that says more about the quality of the Big 2 than the quality of the books. And Grayson is indeed shit.
>>82549192
Dial H is probably the most recent one from the Big 2. Prophet is the best mainstream comic book of the decade so far. The Big 2 haven't been putting out a lot of great work recently.

Incorporated played like a blockbuster action film from the start. Getting into huge fights and chases in exotic locales, crazy villains like Lord Death Man, having sex with Catwoman, etc...

And there was nothing "low-key" about Black Glove either. Perhaps the beginning with the cops, but that's about it. And in BnR, while the whole thing with Sexton/Joker was a mystery, it really wasn't a detective story.

Alan Moore is notorious for ignoring continuity and just doing his own thing with the characters. Jack Kirby did this as well. There are some writers that can do a good job of using continuity to tell their stories (particularly Morrison and Busiek). But for the most part, adherence to continuity has no relation to the quality of work. Ewing loves his continuity but he's overall a pretty mediocre writer. Bendis is shit when it comes to continuity, but that's not what makes him a shit writer.

No, it started out as a DC comic. Comics like Swamp Thing, Sandman, Animal Man, Doom Patrol, Shade the Changing Man, and Hellblazer began before Vertgio was an imprint

I mean Swamp Thing has an issue that ties into Crisis on infinite Earths,
>>
>>82554544

That's just plain wrong. Vertigo didn't even exist until Moore was off of Swamp Thing. You've clear;y never read it.

I wouldn't count Fantagraphics as mainstream, but they've been consistently great for a long time. I'd say Crossed is the only mainstream book from Avatar. Patience and Providence are indeed amazing, but I don't consider them mainstream and personally I prefer Prophet to Providence. There's still a lot of great comics coming out (Beautiful Darkness, Andre the Giant, My Friend Dahmer, those are just a few off the top of my head) but there's nothing really great coming out of the Big 2 like there was in the 90s or early 2000s. I like Deadly Class too but Remender's whole tortured childhood schtick is getting kind of old. The guy puts it in so many of his books that I can't help but feel like he was actually abused as a child.

Aight. I still prefer Deadly Class and some of the recent Mignolaverse, but hey, opinions are opinions.

>There's a reason why the 70's Swamp Thing didn't get printed as a vertigo title
Because it didn't exist at that time? okay you have got to be trolling at this point. I don't know why I'm responding.
>>

Oh I'm a different anon, I was just weighing in on what I thought counted as mainstream
>>
It should come as no surprise that most continuityfags have absolutely shit taste.
>>
>>82554915
It's rare that you get a continuity nut like Mark Gruenwald that seems happy. Most of them come across as man children like Waid of Byrne
>>
>>82554890
I never said one time that Vertigo existed in the 80's.

Please to be eating shit and dying, however.

>Most of them come across as man children like Waid of Byrne
Don't forget Johns and Alex Ross. Busiek, on the other hand, always struck me as a more well-adjusted continuity nut, not to mention an actual good writer.

I disagree, OP

Or maybe just maybe, when someones quality of work drops, they get less acclaim?

I fucking worshiped kanyes first three albums and mbdtf is a goat masterpiece but I admit Yeezus was almost all total ass.
>>
>>82548684
Those are literally the only good parts of the whole run.

The first half of tdkr was good.

Loeg was shit black casebook on but I never read the first two

King developed the Spyral characters, Seeley was in charge of the Wildstorm ones.

King is a cute and I'm going to support him in Rebirth.

It's not interesting though.

>implying people turned on Snyder

A few people dislike Snyder. A few. His Batman run is a huge seller and critically acclaimed. Stop pretending he's overwhelmingly seen as bad. The comic community is not /co/ alone.
>>
>>82556268
His Talia was decent enough, not worse than what she used to be before. Most reasons why people hate her boil down to "not muh".

Like fapping to black chicks in latex suits.

Yeezus is the best thing Kanye ever came out with and Graduation is his worst album. You probably also think DKR2, ASBAR and Holy Terror are shit too you fucking pleb.
>>
>>82555571
Nu!Helena and the St Hadrian girls were by Seeley too, IRRC. Tiger is King's. I love TK, but Seeley really doesn't get enough credit for his Grayson contributions.
>>
>>82547527
So why isn't he in the CIA anymore? Did a big guy crash his plane?
>>
>>82557322
That's probably why Seeley was put off by collabing and said he wouldn't do it again after Grayson.
>>
>>82557601
Seeley's pretty whiny, he also complained about how longterm runs lose critical enthusiasm over time and vowed to only do short arcs from now on. I imagine he'll stay on Nightwing for a year at most and then head out.
>>
>>82557832
Well he's right about that
Layman and other creators had the same complaints and it's why relaunches became a short term solution
>>
>>82557832
I don't find him whiny, he's just pretty blunt about were he sees problems in the industry and comic distribution, etc. He seems like a pretty chill guy otherwise.
>>
>>82547527

Who?
>>
>>82556489
Haley Berry is black?! What the fuck?
>>
>>82557601
It was a little sad that he caught all the flack by idiots for Grayson, and TK got endless praise. Not sure if those are his reasons, since he also always spoke really highly of TK, but who knows.
>>
>>82557832
Longterm runs or arcs?
>>
>>82558279
Runs.
>>
>>82558651
I think he's being sarcastic. He's talking more about comics media support for long runs and the inability for them to be sustained in terms of popularity and financially. He's clearly saying that long runs get better later.
>>
>>82558651
>seeley trying to equate himself with Layman
LMAO
>>
>>82558651
More often than not(especially in today's age) in long runs the writing gets weaker with time.
>>
>>82558651
>boohoo why aren't people talking about me anymore
Fuck comics writers are so insecure. Also Layman's comment about whether the runs he loved could sustain in today's market is bullshit. Long runs have always had the attention peter out as time passes at least until the finale. Runs like Gaiman's Sandman, Moore's Swamp Thing and Robinson's Starman weren't nearly as hyped after a few years. You never saw PAD complain after he got no attention for his 10 year Hulk run.
>>
>>82560349

It doesn't get weaker its just when something great happens the stuff after it is viewed as shit by modern audiences. Just look at how many people just fuck off now when a story isn't tied to the myth arc in TV shows.
