The thing about Buzzwords is that people don't ignore them because they are used incorrectly, it's because they are words that get used so often that the meaning seems less meaningful to some
And even though they get applied to a bunch of things, typically the things they get applied to are accurate
>>
>>82488223
Since when does something being "brutal" negate the fact that it's slapstick? Where are you getting this arbitrary limit for slapstick?
>>
>>82488388
But you implied it by saying that I couldn't stomach it or enjoy it properly
All this because you can't possibly believe that someone who enjoyed the show could possibly think negatively of it
Stop getting triggered by buzzwords

>>82488436
The very nature of slapstick, by every definition, is light-hearted and essentially harmless
I challenge you to find a definition of slapstick that includes the severity of the physical punishment involved and includes the brutal nature you'd see in cartoons
>>
>>82485587
Honestly when I first saw that I thought it was the funniest shit I had ever seen.
>>
>>82488604
Slapstick is defined as "a style of humor involving exaggerated physical activity which exceeds the boundaries of normal physical comedy."

Please tell me where it says lightheartedness is a vital to slapstick.

So Itchy & Scratchy in the Simpsons are not slapstick but Tom & Jerry are? The only arguments is CUZ BLOOD?
>>
>>82488881
You know those cartoons are all inspired by classic golden age cartoons, they just put more violent content for make that more modern and adult, but it's still slapstick.
>>
>>82488881
Yeah, because if you cause actual physical damage they could die on stage...
>>
>>82488881
That isn't a necessity for slapstick, though. It's common in slapstick since most slapstick media is geared towards children, but the very foundation on slapstick isn't inherently lighthearted. Tom and Jerry and EEnE sure as hell don't fit the criteria you posted, at least not all the time.

>So Itchy & Scratchy in the Simpsons are not slapstick but Tom & Jerry are?
Miles apart m8
Itchy and Scratchy are parodies of super violent cartoons
Violent for no reason other than to be violent
The definition of edgy
Itchy dismembers Scratchy in almost every cartoon

>>82488979
>those cartoons are all inspired by classic golden age cartoons
That may be accurate, but it doesn't mean it's slapstick
Being inspired by a genre and making something within a genre are two different things
A rock musician can be inspired by Jazz, but it doesn't make his rock songs jazz
>>
>>82488896
kek. Then I guess The Loud House is edgy as fuck

>>
>>82488995
Which can't be directly translated to a cartoon, sure
But when the violence is overly graphic, such as stuff like >>82487943, that's the equivalent of physical damage

>>82489036
>the very foundation on slapstick
>tom and jerry and EEnE
Tom and Jerry counts more as slapstick because when Jerry hits Tom with a 10 ton hammer, he gets a bump on his head, and then his bump gets a bump
EEnE doesn't really count as slapstick because it's not driven by physical humor, meaning most of the jokes don't come from someone getting hit

>>
>>82489078
Itchy & Scratchy are before all, an obvious parody of Tom & Jerry but with actually a more free violence, because those shorts are on the Simpsons, an adult cartoon, basically adult cartoons are just slapstick with things innapropriate for childrens audiences.

Also my dear genius, if this is not slapstick what's that called? I don't think it's necessary of making a new genre if the whole thing is just exactly like the inspiration but with less cendorship and more bad taste and liberty on gags and violence.
>>
>>82488881
Little physical damage for the ACTORS. Not necessarily for the characters.

It's saying that, when done by people, it's faked stunt violence. But, in terms of narrative, it can still be brutal.

EEnE isn't slapstick because most of the humor doesn't come from the Eds getting slapped around
>>
>>82489365
>>
>>82489270
The whole point of the slapstick was to make super loud hits that sound like they really hurt to seem like the don't actually hurt the character
It was to make the hit seem big, but maybe the character stumble back a little, wrinkle their nose a few times, and then storm off in a huff
It's why slapstick is mostly about pies in faces or stepping on rakes and not punching people in the gut kicking them while they are down

>EEnE doesn't really count as slapstick because it's not driven by physical humor, meaning most of the jokes don't come from someone getting hit
Are you fucking stupid or did you just not watch Ed Edd n Eddy? The physical humor and violence is probably the most prevalent and acclaimed aspect of the show. Shit, there was an entire episode devoted to seeing how much pain Eddy and Rolf could take (waxing your leg and having it swell up, heaving your elbow against a hard surface, getting crushed by rocks, running through sharp vines while naked, etc.) and all of this involved missing teeth, black eyes, and consistently visual lesions, all while fitting within the realms of slapstick. Exaggerated physical humor.

>Tom got his teeth knocked out
slapstick

>sliced, set on fire
Getting sliced or set on fire is never the funny part of those jokes
Getting hit, the physical humor, was never why jokes like that worked
The majority of jokes in Tom and Jerry are funny because Tom thinks he's going to do something and Jerry turns it around and does something else
That's why it's funny

>The physical humor and violence is probably the most prevalent and acclaimed aspect of the show
It's really not
I don't know why people keep saying this
The best jokes, and the most jokes, in EEnE aren't them getting beaten up
It's them tricking people or Ed acting like a weird or Edd acting like a super hypochondriac/egghead
Honestly, just about every compilation of "EEnE's funniest moments" won't be the eds getting punched and beaten up

You have the right of not liking violence on cartoons but please, stop trying to change realities, and also stop talking if it was dramatical, this shit is pure fiction and FUCKING COMEDY ANYWAY!

And basically every golden age cartoons have that on them, so this is not slapstick ?

Every notable gags on Tom&Jerry and Looney Tunes are visuals, that's not about dialogues.

Same things more early, Betty Boop & Popeye cartoons were very surrealists with a lot of disturbing stuff and violence, and this is still slapstick.

Just stop, my friends. Just avert your gaze.

No I've seen that one. Apparently there's another that involves eating mucus?

Betty Boop isn't slapstick whatsoever
Looney Tunes, Tom&Jerry, and Popeye are all slapstick because they use comedic violence to portray specific scenarios
Like when Popeye eats spinach and punches someone so hard they turn into a bowling ball and knocks a bunch of other people down like bowling pins
Off the top of my head, the duck/rabbit season gag is dialogue, but is also slapstick because daffy gets the cartoon equivalent of a pie in the face

But that's a different level of violence than what you'd seen in Ren & Stimpy

You're absolutely allowed to have genres within genres
Whoever told you otherwise is incorrect
Genre is just a synonym for style, or group, or category

>>82490061

if it doesn't matter, then leave

if you don't want to discuss cartoons, just minimize the thread
I'm so sorry I'm not treating /co/ in the way you wanted it to be treated
>>
Sincerely i can't understand the point of being sorry ot triggered for a character evolving on a comical universe where everyone is a crazy-ass or a dick anyway.

That's not a serious dramatic storyline where a character make a real bad thing who have influence on the whole history, because comedies are most of times uncanonical.

Sorry, guy. I came here to discuss gross out moments, not your sperging over a definition.

As for the gross out moment:

put me off pizza for a while.

One of the characters is taking temperature of someone and stuff like that and eats the snot as if it was sampling it, so you know, VERY thoroughly.

Anon, I'm in tears. Thanks.
How did i not know this existed ?!
>>
>>82489954
How on earth was this, of all things, deleted? Out of all of the painful/gross things in new spongebob, this is the only thing that gets cut?
>>
>>82490304
who knows
I'm sure kids would think it's comedic gold just as we once did, but I'm sure there are too many ways for parents to blame cartoons for stupid kids doing stupid things

>YOU DON'T LIKE X, YOU MUST LIKE Y FUCKING YFAG
why would you assume this?
why?

>>82490287
I mean, I'm assuming that the argument you chose when you decided to only post a reaction image with greentext

>>82490332
We're still discussing gross out moments, just not in the way you want
ie an actual discussion and not just posting a bunch of youtube clips
>>
>>82490369
Can someone post it?

>>82490445
This is from classic Spongebob.
>>
>>82490332
I wasn't allowed to watch Invader Zim at all, so I OD after watching it for the first time last year and felt nothing from that scene.

I though hate greasy pizza. I soak up a lot of grease with a napkin before eating and never eat pepperoni.
>>
>>82490483
I know it's from classic spongebob, I'm saying that if they went back to cut it out, why not cut out the other traumatizing shit like the toenail thing?

Fun fact, after doing a bit of research, apparently they cut the end scene in Squidbob Tentaclepants where everyone is fused together while Squidward is in therapy. So it's not that they just don't edit the newer episodes either.

There was a scene removed from Procrastination as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0WLYeoUgcg
Nothing really bad in here.
I vaguely remember another one on top of these two, and given the kind of shit they air in post-movie Spongebob, I'm inclined to believe these scenes were cut to make more time for commercials.
