Terezi wasn't really ruined though. In the end, she literally managed to get ahold of herself. The only bad part is that we only see the end result of her merging all of her memories, but we never really see how she experienced the end result and what is her experience of it during the process.
Karkat, on the other hand, got a good chunk of development sacrifed.
The thing is, with the last Jade log, I was actually hoping it was all for something, that there would be an actual lead up for the concept got only hinted at to never be actually used.
