The true king of the sunday funnies.

Garfield has a more superficial appeal to the common readers, but if you're willing to dedicate yourself to understanding the lore, Heathcliff is the superior comic.

Garfield
>Jon memes
>a halloween special that still holds up
>that interesting 9 Lives animation anthology
>that one week of the strip where Garfield went through an existential crisis and Jim Davis cleverly squeezed more storytelling with more panels within the three primary panels each day.
>that strip where Jon got flipped off by a hawaiian native
>that strip that predicted 9/11 the day before

Heathcliff
>graciously provided an outlet for Japan to draw a sexy cat girl.
>bad news memes

give it to Garfield

Garfield.

He's not dead. It's a setup for a later plot twist where Heathcliff is revealed to be the final boss. It only makes sense as he predates Garfield.

Screencap if you must.

Is this even a question? Heathcliff is post-humor avant garde. Garfield is just a shitty mass market appeal rip-off with none of the charm.

Garfield and Friends alone more than justifies Garfield's existence. What a great show.

It's not supposed to be, it's post-post-post-modern art. So ahead of its time that we have an entire generation of post-post-modern art to get through before people really get it.

I see.

In other words, it's a shitty comic that people love ironically.

Sounds like /co/, all right.
>>
>>82449706
You don't understand. Heathcliff isn't just regular unfunny. It's the smile-devourer, where laughs go to die.
>>
>>82449706
I love it completely unironically. I wouldn't go so far as to call it funny, but I unironically enjoy it more than any comic currently being published.

Heathcliff can evoke anger, despair or sadness, but never joy.

I've been pretty close to crying from just how aggressively unfunny Heathcliff is. If I were told I "needed" to cry for catharsis or something at a sad point in my life, I have a Heathcliff folder just waiting.

Instead of arguing with the ump about a disputed call, he's arguing with the replay guy who can't do anything but replay what happened in the game. It is an attempt at a joke and coherent which means that it is humorous by Heathcliff standards. I personally prefer more absurdist panels, though.
