Marvel's First Family
Let's ride
>>82428712
>just wait and see sister
Who the fuck talks like this?
Marvel was about to go under so when they decided to rip off the Justice League. And since they were gonna lose their jobs anyway they could do whatever they wanted with the book
Lee and Kirby already had ~40 years of experience in comics when they did this.
Look at how sinister Reed is in that last panel
>>82428789
word balloons on covers are a lost art
Kirby among all the other stuff on his resume, did monster comics for Marvel. He really brings it out in these early issues
Johnny clearly defined in his first appearance
>>82428889
rip car
does anyone not know this
>>82428922
bump
fucking commies
>>82428712
I have this somewhere in my house
johnny fucking destroying a forest
remember what i said about monsters
>>82428991
... you have a copy of Fantastic Four #1 in your house?
Like, not a reprint, but the actual original FF #1?
remember how jack kirby co-invented romance comics?
>>82429027
most likely reprint
>>82428712
How much of this are you gonna do? This is just an absolutely brilliant run.
Skrulls!
>>82429224
who knows
>>82429224
Simply the best.
assuming readers a good handful of issues
glad they specify the skrulls are from outer space
>>82429471
I think it is irresponsible of Stan and Jack to mess with this space junk when we have real world villains like the reds to worry about!
FantastiCar!Does it have a hemi?
>>82430050
I really like Johnny on this cover.
Guess who's back
>>82428789
It was a 60's comic written by adults who wanted to appeal to a cool young audience.
>>82428889
That's some impressive flares I must admit
>>82428944
So was this comic published before or after Russia auctualy reached space
>>82430713
I think it was June of 61?
>>82429021
Yep that's a monster all right
>>82430754
When you have "Namor was a hobo for 20 years before Human Torch burned his beard off" you realize all retcons are silly and not worth complaining about
>>82429079
I haven't really read any monster comics but im assuming this is more of the same monster infulunce in that writing.
Was Kirby writer or artist on this
>>82429116
I thought johhny could fly
>>82429179
Man humans are jerks
>>82430562
This art is fucking fantastic
GUESS WHO MOTHERFUCKERS
Dude is fully formed first page. DOOM is DOOM
>>82431098
He's the King
>>82430789
So the month after
Presumably when the news came out the story was to far along to change
>>82431098
Probably Kirby's best. Everyone remembers his wild cosmic stuff, but he was better when he was understated and more focused on expressiveness and less on design/craziness.
>>82431295
Would have to disagree. Kirby was a guy who clearly mastered the basics and then went on to do whatever he wantedlike Miller
>>82431301
It's crazy how Doom's first story is a time travel story. Even crazier when Kang the Conqueror comes around
>>82431430
I love the sheer WTF of Doom and Rama-Tut's meeting
Between this and X-Anon on Claremont you guys are basically storytiming the foundation for the entire Marvel universe
>>82431508
And so the doombot craze starts.
>>82431295
I like it all.
After intermission
SUPER VILLAIN TEAM UP
>>82432246
I'm going to bed, hopefully the thread's still up by the time I get home tomorrow from work. Is there a download link for this?
>>82432287
Panel 5 is the sort of thing you don't see enough of any more.
>>82430821
Made even worse when you realise that the sliding timescale means that that's now been 60 years.
>>82430921
The only comics Kirby wrote at Marvel beyond plotting with the Marvel Method were Eternals and Devil Dinosaur.
>>82433102
i think it's really funny we've all agreed to just let it go that reed and ben served in WW2 together
>>82433120
No he wrote Captain America, Black Panther, Machine Man, and 2001 too. In fact besides a Silver Surfer story with Lee I think Marvel just let him do his own thing when he came back
>>82430639
>Wait til I tell the guys how Mr. Fantastic totally manhandled me after calling me a worthless piece of shit. I'll be so popular!
>>82433120
>>82433569
Yeah, Kirby did most of his own writing during his "comeback" in the 70s.
I just wanted to say that I've never read or liked the FF but I actually liked the first issue here way more than I thought. It's definitely not as dated as I thought it would be. Thanks OP, this has helped me decide whether I wanted to buy the omni's or not.
>>82432266
There's a torrent containing all FF comics on kickass
>>82432266
It'll be in the archive at the very least.
>>82435956
Fantastic Four and Spider-Man are to the Silver Age what Captain Marvel and Plastic Man are to the Golden Age, i.e. the two superhero comics of their era that have aged the best.
>>82436151
>Fantastic Four and Spider-Man
and Barry
>>82436151
I'm glad to hear that considering I really want to pick up the first ASM omni when it gets re-released. I like the old art but the old school dialogue gets to me sometimes. I don't mind the exposition heavy stuff like even Miller's Daredevil had, but phrases and ways of talking that don't get used anymore irk me.
>>82428712
I watched recently tranktastic four, and it made me want to grab some comics. weird, I know
>>82429915
One of the most fucked up pages in comic history
>>82438840
It's fucking genius though.
>>82428712
