I wonder how long it will be before Superman permanently loses his cape the way he lost his shorts. Considering that "cape" is almost a synonym for superhero these days, it seems like this would dilute the character a bit too much. And as I recall, he lost the cape during his "Electric Blue" days around 1998, but was reverted back to his classic uniform, probably after DC found they had a "New Coke" on their hands.
