But, yea, the fact they really had to shove her into the movie brought it down juuust a bit.
Also, while I'm bitching about a kid's movie, why is Gazelle just "Gazelle"? That'd be like a human musician just named "Human"don't reply with a link to a Wikipedia article about some German DJ from the 80s named "Human" or some shit, that's not my point.. Clawhauser, Hopps, Wilde, they're all great because they're puns on the respective animals, so why get lazy at "Gazelle"? Why Gaz or Zelle or something?

I like Byron but that's not a good argument, we saw a lot of animals that being domesticated by humans during History in the movie, so why no cats & dogs?

>>82238359
Lots of animals have been domesticated by humans, not so many have been selectively engineered by humans like modern cats and dogs.
>>82238359
I think the point is there's a difference between "animals that have occassionally been domesticated by humans" (like yaks) and "animals that more or less literally only exist due to human domestication (that would be dogs).
>>82237642
it's a play on the name Jazelle. But she is literally a gazelle so there you go. Gazelle.
>>82238446
That said, sheep should have been less fluffy. Wild sheep are less fluffy than the sheep humans have selected for, which unsuspririsngly generally have much thicker wool.
I suppose the gag with nick pating Bellwether's fluff was too tempting to not include even if it stretched things a bit.
>>82238397
>modern cats
>more selectively engineered than cows or horses or sheep
For real?
The only reason dogs and cats were discarded is because American audiences see them exclusively as pets. That's why they showed camels and yaks, because American audiences see those animals only as their wild counterparts and not as their domesticated versions.
Pic related is a European wildcat. How many people would look at a Disneyfied version of that and be able to tell it from a housecat? Despite the fact that it is a wild species?

"Domestic" cats are actually much closer to their wild ancestors than domestic dogs.
Their parent species, felis sylvestris, is anatomically identical. Domestic cats, felis sylvestris catus (I wish I was kidding) is differentiated only by the fact that we let them live in our houses, and their wider range of phenotypes.
Whereas there might be thousands of generations between, say, a pug (Canis lupus familiaris) and a grey wolf (Canisius lupus lupus), the difference between a European wildcat (felis sylvestris sylvestris) and your bald sphinx (felis sylvestris catus) is in the double digits.
That said, F. sylvestris tends to be what the average cat owner would call a longhair tabby looking deal, a bit smaller than a Maine coon. Maine coons, btw, are single digit number of generations separate from their wild cousins, so if you know someone who has one, you basically know what pre-domestication cats were like.

Same, it's like a small island of happiness most times or all shows with Bob Ross condensed into one. Most days at least.

>>82238319
He probably thought the wolves were huskies.
And yes, there are wild pigs that are mostly hairless and that decidedly piggy shade of pink. They just tend to roll in mud (or dust, or water) a lot because they don't have sweat glands like humans do and the dirt prevents sunburn.
Pigs are a fun species, a domestic pig will do just fine in the wild, becoming a full bore feral hog within a month, and a captured feral hog will just revert to domestic just as quick. They're a very "accept the hand you are dealt" species. More accurately, they are a species that is happy to be fed and sheltered.

Just got back from seeing it the first time (in the US; very late to the party, I know).
I liked it a lot. My only real qualm is the underdeveloped villain -- which, especially given the nature of the movie, is kind of a bummer: I think Bellweather deserved more depth.

I'm kinda glad they didn't, because if they end up hooking up in the sequel then it would feel organic/natural. It would also be even more satisfying than this scene would have been.
>>82239898
I think they did it on purpose. If the predators were indeed aggressive and the prejudices had been justified, Dawn would be seen as a saviour and a lot of people could have gotten behind her ideals, especially considering one is not allowed to admit to right wing sympathies.
They made her shallow intentionally .
>>82239898
pretty much accurate desu. In general the movie could have used a bit of a longer rung time, especially in the third act, but it was already the second longest disney movie of all time (after Fantasia)

It's not rage, it's just kinda, baffling.
I also noticed whenever you Google Zootopia or check IMDB she's the first name that comes up in the cast and crew and it's like
A.) She was barely in the movie at all, thank Christ
And B.) It's a fucking animated Disney movie, it could've been a blank screen for an hour and a half and it still would've made $500 mil, why the celebrity tie-in? Did Shakira really fill any seats?
Her song(s?) in the movie were so bland everytime I try to remember one I just think of that Hips Don't Lie song so I can't imagine they're banking on iTunes.
I get having a celebrity character in the movie, but it's like half the promotion was "HEY, SHAKIRA, YOU GUYS SHOULD COME SEE THIS MOVIE, SHAKIRA IS IN IT! DID WE MENTION SHAKIRA!?!"
Just kinda odd marketing...

A few ruin it for the bunch, I guess. I like you guys, personally. I get annoyed when I see the anti-clawhauser sentiment in these threads because the real clawhauserfags actually seem pretty chill.
