>1. Working directly for the government, so the don't gave bounties (Smoker, AkaInu, Kizaru, Garp, CP9)
Marines have rank
Admiral > Vice Admiral > Rear Admiral > etc
CP9 have douriki

>2. Warlords that had their bounties frozen at smaller numbers and don't reflect their actual power or sphere of influence (Crocodile, Doflaingo)

He still gave Crocodile a relatively low former bounty so the readers won't be thinking it's a ridiculously huge jump for Luffy to beat a guy with a 340 million bounty.

>3. Are from areas that flat out don't use the bounty system (Enel)

Oda already said if Enel was a pirate, he'd have a bounty of 500 million. Besides that, we had Enel's priests. Ohm's trial had a 0 percent survival rate and Getadsu had a 50 percent survival rate.

Obviously, you're meant to take this as Ohm is much stronger than Gedatsu.

This is simple stuff, guys.

Nico Robin wasn't introduced as an 8 year old, was she? She was introduced as the number two to one of the strongest guys around, wasn't she?

And do you remember what the story was at the time? Ohara was classified. The story was that Robin sank 8 of the 10 ships in a Buster Call, and that's how she got her bounty.

You're thinking way too literal about this, dude. It's a story. Some things in the story are done just to help the reader along, especially when the writer writes the story for twelve year old boys.

>He still gave Crocodile a relatively low former bounty so the readers won't be thinking it's a ridiculously huge jump for Luffy to beat a guy with a 340 million bounty.

Robin was 79 mil and Crocodile at 80 mil in the same arc, further in a previous arc two giants worth 100 mil each were taken down by Croc's henchmen. Right now Moria is a 320 mil and Doflamingo who is several arcs away is was only at 340 mil, not much of a jump there.

>Oda already said if Enel was a pirate, he'd have a bounty of 500 million. Besides that, we had Enel's priests. Ohm's trial had a 0 percent survival rate and Getadsu had a 50 percent survival rate.

Because Enel with Raigou can destroy the population of entire islands like his homeland Birka. Weaklings like the Caribou get high bounties just because of all the massacre of innocents they commit, but in no way does it suggest Enel can defeat every pirate who Luffy has fought until now because of his significantly higher fictional bounty.

>Yeah no. By your own reasoning an 8 year old girl's power level was several times that of Arlong and Franky and Sanji as of Thriller Bark. You don't get to just arbitrarily apply your own rules to the system and claim it's still a system.

Yeah, I do, because that's how it's used in the context of the story. To illustrate threat level. Robin was suppose to be super powerful. So he gave her a high bounty when he introduced her.

Whatever reasoning comes 300 chapters after that introduction is arbitrary. Again, too literal. Think about who he's writing the fucking story for. There's a reason most shonen manga have powerlevels. Boys go crazy for them.

Because for one they need to have the license for it again. For two they are going to try and get some more use out of their current license for Parasyte before abandoning it.

It's why DeMarco ended up showing AoT 3 times in a row not counting marathons. The higher price/priority the license the more it gets its run on the network until it becomes pure ratings poison.

They're totally a bioweapon.

They instinctively disguise themselves as their host species, and instinctively seek and consume more of the host form.

They'll either succeed, then slowly die off because they don't reproduce of their own accord.

Except it is, because bounties aren't power levels. They're just gauges of threat. For fighter characters you can use them as power levels sure, but only in the context of how much the WG is aware of their strength, and they're capable of overestimating people as much as they are underestimating.

Nico Robin's bounty had nothing to do with her fighting strength. Her bounty was almost equal to Crocodile's despite the vast gulf in their fighting abilities even in the arc she was introduced.

>Robin was 79 mil and Crocodile at 81 mil in the same arc

And they were both meant to look like huge threats at the time. Robin made the strongest guy in Alabasta look like nothing.

> further in a previous arc two giants worth 100 mil each were taken down by Croc's henchmen.

Yes, but they were beaten by trickery and were never meant to be threats to anyone but each other.

>Right now Moria is a 320 mil

Yes, and Luffy is 300 million. So it works. He's a big threat, but based on numbers, not an unbeatable one.

The gap between Croc's 81 million and Luffy's 30 million was bigger, which is why Luffy had to fight him 3 times and with everything he had.

>

Oda said that Logias on their own a tricky to beat, especially a really strong one like Enel's.

Caribou was far from weak. It was more like he wasn't strong enough.

That much is obvious and I never said otherwise.

When Blackbeard was introduced, he had no bounty. He was a nobody. Not even 15 million. Because we weren't meant to know how strong he was at the time. We weren't meant to know just how powerful he would become, which would eventually be FINAL BOSS tier.

No mention of Ace's 500 million bounty or the tiny difference in Doflamingo's and Moria's bounty despite the large difference in strength. And Chinjao's bounty was also 500 mil despite being weaker than Doflamingo. Maybe the writer of this story actually takes more into consideration than "how strong do I want this character to look at this exact moment".

Robin's not a fighter, her bounty has no bearing whatsoever on her abilities to fight. Hell Chopper is more of a fighter than she is and his bounty is a running gag.

Basically. Chinjao was introduced as one of the veteran Grandpa pirates from Roger and Garp's era, but he obviously can't have had a 200 million bounty if he fought those guys.

Oda had background characters say multiple times "He's gotten weaker in his old age"

Just like most Samurai Champloo side characters, tonight's Toonami has met it's end. It's somewhat odd, in that we recently had a schedule change, but it already feels like we've settled into the schedule! It could just be me, but I've already been able to

From Time Trickery, Ryoma finds the Big O Jackpot, Riddle me This Huntsman!, and Life and death in the way of the Samurai, to whatever happened on Naruto, The Appearance of the Apparition Princess Perona, and Migi with the handy "handy", it's been a great night!

Life is just a party, and parties aren't meant to last. But, just like a Little Red Corvette, that doesn't mean you need to run it right into the ground! Whether you're asking for a Kiss from you Darling Nikki or finding out what it sounds like When Doves cry, there too many experiences to be had to let it slip away! So, while we all still can, at least for one last time ladies and gentlemen, let us party like it's 1999. Until next time, my friends...

Later.

Mine eyes have seen the glory
Of the desu of the board
She is spamming out the desu
Where the maidens of wrath are stored
She has loosed the fateful desu
Of her terrible desu sword
Desu is marching on

I have seen her in the replies
Of a hundred thousand breads
They have builded her a garden
Laced with ribbons and with threads
I can tell apart her visage
From those two eyes, green and red!
Desu is marching on

I have read a fiery desu
Writ in polished rows of jade
For all who would condemn her
Of Suiseiseki, be afraid!
Let our heros, Desu Legion
Come swiftly to her aid!
Since desu is marching on

Glory, glory, to DESU! Glory, glory, to DESU!
Glory, glory, to DESU! Desu is marching on!

She has sounded forth the desu
That shall never call retreat
She is sifting out the dreams of men
Before her desu-seat
Oh, be swift, my heart
To march for her, be jubilant, my feet!
Our Desu is marching on

Glory, glory, to DESU! Glory, glory, to DESU!
Glory, glory, to DESU! Desu is marching on!

In the beauty of sakuras
Desu was born across the sea
With a spirit in her bosom
That transfixes you and me
As she tended to the soul trees
Let us keep our boards strong and free!
While Desu is marching on

Glory, glory, to DESU! Glory, glory, to DESU!
Glory, glory, to DESU! Desu is marching on!

Bounties are, like another anon said, meant to show how strong a character is at that moment.

They're not exact calculated numbers done with scouters, they're just meant to give the reader an idea of what is going to go down in a face off.

Robin had a high bounty at her intro, she was meant to me strong. The story of how she got it which comes later on is irrelevant to what it was suppose to show at the time.

This is is simple stuff, and you're a petulant child. Please, don't talk to me, my son, or Toonami general ever again.

I guess perhaps it was "too busy" of a design. It might have been possible to do in Manga but in anime it probably would have been more difficult to animate (especially in certain circumstances such as her ears twitching/moving).

It is interesting though, out of all the characters in Outlaw Star she had the most redesigns out of all the characters. Even Gene and Melfina had less redesigns done to them given the work designs shown. Aisha was just uncertain for awhile.

>>82161217
I guess considering that in the universe where science and magic both exist the creator was not sure if he wanted Aisha to be a magic user/alien or some kind of warrior alien.

Ultimately he chose warrior spirit with comedy bits.

>Ctarl-Ctarls could have been a race of magic using cat aliens.

But Bleach still had such a huge following on Toonami. It completely finished it's 366 episode run. No Toonami or Anime show that has run longer than 52 episodes has EVER done that. Especially without skipping an entire episode either.

Bleach was a huge King of Adult Swim Anime due to the quality. It was like Pokemon to a Saturday Morning. We all watched Saturday Morning Cartoons BECAUSE of Pokemon. We watched Saturday Night anime BECAUSE of Bleach.

It's clear how much that show meant to people and how much people could not give a shit about Naruto Shitpudden or One Piece anime. It didn't have the same effect as it's predecessor.

Maybe you missed the part where I said it was a dub premier. That was the draw. HxH will only have that draw for about half a year, the other 3 are long past that point.

Also, ASA Bleach wasn't doing too hot. It is confirmed that without Toonami bumping the ratings, it would have been pulled

>>
>>82161172
Just because you don't see everything that Nami does, doesn't mean that she's useless. The position of navigator is traditionally that of the second mate, which is to say the third in command of the vessel. They are responsible for the planning of the entire passage, the acquisition and interpretation of nautical charts, the avoidance of maritime hazards, and such miscellaneous duties. We don't see those duties much in the show simply because they're usually not plot-relevant, but she's not a compass; they already have that (the log pose).

That's just shonen bullshit where only the main character is allowed to accomplish anything of value. Even then, the other members of the cheer squad still do more than Nami. They do more than standing and pointing.

>It's just people saying "I'm stronger than you so I win".

That's almost never the case in One Piece though, because people usually just fight people on their own level.

The only thing I can actually think of where it's actually a problem is Dragonball Z itself.

Nami's extraordinary skill at navigation, charting, reading ocean currents and reading the weather have been major plot points, and sometimes even the primary focus, in the following arcs:

>Orange Town
>Arlong Park
>Laboon
>Drum Kingdom
>Jaya and Skypeia
>Strong World
>Her cover story
>Fishman Island
>Zou

This isn't including the random trips between islands where she's always seen in charge and they run into wacky shit.

Enies Lobby is 56 chapters in a series that's currently at 824 chapters. It's not even the longest arc by a long shot.
Hell, Toonami is currently airing the first half of Thriller Bark. Nothing in that is a battle shonen, its a horror movie parody.

Nami's combat gimmick is that she's a glass cannon. She dishes out use are of effect attacks and high damage lightning strikes that tend to defeat opponents quickly while relying on invisibility, mirages and tricks to avoid taking a hit.

Usopp in particular has and always will be the weakest member of the crew. He plays the role of the everyman and unlike everyone else isn't a naturally gifted genius in their area of expertise, he's the village orphan who owned a slingshot.

Islands on the Grand Line are made of rare minerals thanks to the exotic location and isolation of the sea, minerals that give off strong magnetic pulls. Because of this traditional compasses don't work, you can't reliably tell which way is north. Instead to navigate the Grand Line you travel via a logpose, a special compass that records the magnetic pull of the next island on your path so you can safely navigate further into the sea.

This also causes the Grand Line islands to have special climate zones, with some islands being "summer islands" where you're traveling through an arid desert while the island immediately after it can be a "winter island," where you're in a tundra. The interactions of these climates cause irregular weather patterns at sea, which only get stranger as the ocean gets more exotic. Raining thunder, the sea setting on fire, typhoons everywhere, currents that shoot you up into the sky, hail the size of vans, raining cotton candy, the ocean turning sideways or dropping off like a cliff. It's a completely unpredictable sea and at any moment you can be killed by a phenomenon of nature.

The Straw Hats have visited islands of dinosaurs. Islands in the sky that they had to fly too. Islands at the ocean floor. Lands on top of a massive country sized elephant. Ghost islands that travel through haunted seas. Without a navigator who can handle the unpredictable nature of the Grand Line and is familiar with it the crew is fucked, and because of that navigators are critically important to anyone trying to find the One Piece.

We've seen crews in-story that have been utterly demolished. There's also been countless examples of times where the Straw Hats would be dead without Nami's skill.

No I didn't. I never claimed to be an expert, and frankly, I'm glad I don't know anything about this show, since it already gives me a massive headache from godawful annoying it is. At this point you're going out of your way to not read.
It's an undocumented hell ocean with no maps detailing the thing where you have no sense of direction or stability. Only one person in the entire world has ever safely managed to reach the end of it, and that guy was the most powerful pirate in its worlds history.

It's literally the premise of the story and mentioned in half the intros.

>Then how the fuck does Nami predict them?
There's something called studying and intuition.
Nami's spent her entire life avidly learning navigation. Her lifes dream is to navigate the ocean and she's become so familiar with weather patterns that she can feel out the smallest drops in pressure.

Since you refuse to do even a modicum of reading about the show's lore, the alternative then is for you to learn something about the real world of maritime navigation which many aspects of the story are derived from or at least inspired by.
>the Grand Line is hard to navigate because magnets
Are you like selectively reading or something?
>Then how the fuck does Nami predict them?
It might be more appropriate to call them "extremely chaotic". Nami was once able to sense an approaching storm system even when she was nearly delirious with fever. That's simply the knowledge she has learned combined with practical experience at sea.

The characters like Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Usopp who don't really play active roles on the ship itself get all the fights.
The characters who have very specific jobs like Chopper, Robin and Nami don't. They play other roles in the story and don't really need constant fights to justify their existence in the narrative or develop as characters.

>>82162718
>BULLSHIT. Tons of people live in the Grand Line, and yet nobody drew up a map of the place?
Okay so, remember that thing I said about how the Grand Line is a one way route that only gets deadlier the further you get into it?
And how only one person in the world as made it to the end even once, let alone all 7 or 8 times requires to see the whole thing?

Even the marines, who are able to come and go as they please with advancements in technology, aren't capable of exploring its second half. Huge chunks of the ocean have been untouched by man for thousands of years. Some islands are prehistoric and others are so far into the future they're Jetsons tier.

If you're going to ask questions about the comics world and lore you should stop fucking ignoring the answers and put in any effort to research it.

It's an adventure series about exploring new locales, meeting new people, overcoming obstacles and going on a journey. Fighting is a part of it because they have competition for the treasure, but it's absolutely not the series' main focus outside of the Enies Lobby and Marineford arcs.
It's named after a macguffin they're searching for. The entire backdrop for the series is "here's this weird RPG world with loads of islands and cultures and people, go wild." It borrows a lot from early Red Ribbon era Dragon Ball.

A BLOO HOO MUH VILLAGE IS BULLIED BY FISH PEOPLE

>most active
If bitching about money and pointing to the next town count as being active, then One Piece may qualify as the most boring adventure ever written.
>>
>>82163665
Never mind that the best fights are the ones where the weakest members fight and win. I cheer much more when someone like Nami or Usopp wins against tough opponents because of how much harder it is for them than the crew's "three monsters". It makes it all the more meaningful that they have the guts to do what has to be done and all the more cool when they come out on top.
>>
>>82163643
that not real evident we just haven't seen anyone else do it. Usopp probably could do the job if something happen to Nami. Nami is smart enough to know she has a small chance in fighting a lot of the people they end up fighting. Plus, she a pirate and not a ninja, think of Nami like Jack Sparrow. She thinks like a pirate and she's going avoid fights against stronger opponent.

This bait got old.
Just admit that you don't like Nami because you don't find her fights entertaining and don't give a shit about the rest of One Piece.

God, this guy's worse than ACfag

>Just admit that you don't like Nami because you don't find her fights entertaining and don't give a shit about the rest of One Piece.
Was that not obvious?

>>82163745
>Nami is smart enough to know she has a small chance in fighting a lot of the people they end up fighting.
Too bad she's not smart enough to fuck off so she can be replaced by someone worth a shit.

>>82163677
>Yes, and there's such a thing as overdoing it.
No there isn't. You can and should always cut out the fat.
>>
>>82163706
>There's a very real difference between lack of realism, and the characters being stupid.
If you want it to be unrealistic, then it shouldn't matter to you that only she has the skills to navigate the grand line. Only it should matter to you, since that's actually perfectly realistic.

Fuck. What is wrong with your brain, friend?
>>
>>82163794
>Was that not obvious?
It'd be nice if you stopped making ridiculous claims to pretend you have a reason beyond "Nami vs. Kalifa was pretty boring."

One Piece isn't a battle shonen. It's an action adventure fantasy series. If that's not your taste that's perfectly fine but stop crying that the series is something its not, or that being an entirely different genre than the one you care for somehow makes it badly written.
Just turn off the TV and do something else when its on. It's what I did with Hamtaro when Toonami aired it back in the day.
>>
>>82163808
Well of course it's realistic for people to be stupid enough to not implement redundancies. That doesn't make it any less frustrating.

And hell, being a work of fiction, solid planning should be more common, since the only thing stopping the heroes from being smart is the author.
>>
>>82163848

How was Nami vs Kalifa boring?

Hey, who here reads the One Piece manga?
>>
>>82163909
I got into the series in 2004 and been up to date with the Japanese releases since 2007.
It's been a part of my weekly schedule for so long it'll feel surreal when it's over.
>>
>>82163831
>One Piece isn't a battle shonen.
Yeah, it really is. It pays out like one, just with a ton of filler between the fights.

>being an entirely different genre than the one you care for somehow makes it badly written.
It's badly written because heroes are obnoxious retards, and half of them have no good reason to exist.

>>82163875
It expects the audience to root for a useless bitch who has no right to be in the show to begin with. Asking someone to cheer on Nami of characters, is like asking them to stick one's head in an oven for an hour.
>>
>>82163947

But the fight wasn't boring at all, she made great use of her new Clima-tact
>>
>>82163947
>Yeah, it really is. It pays out like one, just with a ton of filler between the fights.
Except that's wrong.
There are entire arcs that go for 50-60 with a single fight in it. We just had a 30 chapter arcs that didn't have a single one. The entire first half of the Water 7 arc you claimed to watch was mostly mystery and drama.

It's an adventure serial with fights in it. Not an action series where the plot only exists to justify fighting. Enies Lobby is one of the two arcs that really embraces the series' shonen elements and it's an exception to the rule.

>It's badly written because heroes are obnoxious retards, and half of them have no good reason to exist.
Objectively wrong.
>>
>>82163966
That's what makes all of Nami's fights boring. Her retarded little weather stick thing isn't interesting. And besides, a good fight depends on audience investment. I don't care if Nami wins, in fact I hope the dumb bimbo dies already.

Y'know, it's a little disconcerting that so many people defend her so strongly. One Piece-fags can't be this delusional. Right? You have to realize she's pretty much worthless.
>>
I smell an ACfag
>>
Sounds like a lot of "I don't like it, and I can't possibly understand why someone would like something I don't"
>>
>>82163999

>b*mbo

Nice gendered slur there, pal.
>>
>>82163984
>Not an action series where the plot only exists to justify fighting.
I beg to differ, I've not seen a whole lot else but fighting in this series.

>>82164057
It might help if people who do like this show might be willing to explain themselves instead of being so obnoxiously circuitous about it.

>I beg to differ, I've not seen a whole lot else but fighting in this series.
You also skipped 300 episodes, jumping into to the climax of the climax arc.
No fucking shit your perception of the series' tone, audience and goal is skewed. You weren't even familiar with things introduced in the first few pages of the story earlier in the thread.
>>
>>82164081
First, I already called her a cunt several times, and bimbo is where you draw the line? Yeah, okay. And second, she IS a bimbo. She's a vacuous twat who dresses like a hooker.
>>
>>82164156

She's smarter than you, fag, judging by this entire thread
>>
>>82164141
And what, if I were to watch it from the beginning, I'd instantly fall in love with it? I rather doubt that.

>>82164193
I wouldn't waste time and effort trying to buy my village's freedom from the most obviously evil bastard ever who also killed my mom and brags about it constantly. So I disagree, I'm pretty sure I'm a fair deal smarter than Nami.

She actually believed that shit, the dumb bitch.
>>
>>82164241
>And what, if I were to watch it from the beginning, I'd instantly fall in love with it? I rather doubt that
No. I'm saying you wouldn't be calling it something its not if you saw most of the other arcs.
There's nothing wrong with a show not suiting your tastes anon. I'm not sure why it's such a big deal for you that it doesn't.
>>
>>82164241

Tell me, if you were in her shoes, what would you have done?
>>
>>82164337
It's a big deal because everyone is always crawling up my ass about how "good" this show is, when it makes me want to kill myself. That's annoying as fuck. The fact that people do love this show so much is disgusting.

>>82164349
I would probably seek out strong allies to help me liberate my village, the ransom money instead going to the rebel force's budget. Ugh, though now I realize that Nami actually did that by accident. How convenient she manged to find the altruistic pirates to help her. ... Goddamn, I hate this fucking series.
>>
>>82164416
>I would probably seek out strong allies to help me liberate my village
There's a big variety of reasons why this wouldn't work and why she never tried to do it.
>>
>>82164416

>I would probably seek out strong allies to help me liberate my village

But you come from a weak village in the weakest ocean, and you're going up against Arlong and his crew, who are not only Fishmen, which are naturally ten times as strong as humans, but they're tough as fuck and from the Sun Pirates, which was lead by a member of the Shichibukai.

You can't go to the Marines, either, because the ones nearby are being bribed by Arlong

And like >>82164433 said, a lot more things
>>
>>82164433
And I can already tell you right now that each and every one of those reasons is bullshit. The fact remains that she actually believed Arlong would honor his end of the bargain. Nami is a stupid bimbo, through and through.

Arlong was a level 40 boss hanging around in a level 2 village stuck in the corner of the world map.

He was a pirate far beyond the rest dicking around in East Blue, from the governments perspective an influential Grand Line pirate had no reason to be hanging out in a backwater hick town. He was bribing the local marines to keep his operations a secret because their captain was corrupt, so nobody was coming to save them, and the marines that got too close to Cocoyashi were immediately attacked and killed on sight. There was no information going out and nobody coming for them.

Nami was only allowed to leave the village because of her association with Arlong, which was branded on her. She had no way of getting to or contacting the more distant seas for help either because she's a fucking nobody and traveling between them in the One Piece world is unreasonably hard. Plus she had Arlong's eye on her, if she went missing for a huge period of time he'd get suspicious and end their deal. Her choices were to trust he would honor his bargain or to literally let her village die. There was no in-between.

You said it yourself. They finally found their saviors when a bunch of other overleveled dudes who were altruistic and didn't give a damn about the marines charged in and branded themselves as wanted men to save their village.
