Just picked this series up again and finished it, starting from about ~9000
Personally, I'll take 500 frames that rush the plot to the finish over an Act 6 that took years too long anyday. Sure there are probably plotholes aplenty, but at this point 1.) I no longer fucking notice and 2.) at least the plot doesn't waste my time if it's going too fast instead of too slow.

The cast we've been following until Game Over has been killed off and replaced by copies after the retcon -- copies that had never learned as much as them. I think it kind of /IS/ important.
Also, even if you consider doomed copies "not people" (which I'd call wrong, from the perspective of both facts and ethics) you can't pretend the ending is happy or just when non-ghost characters like GCATavros exist. Just because their existence isn't acknowledged doesn't mean they aren't the forgotten victims of heavy collateral damage.

I understand your opinion, but I disagree with that one claim. Tavros never had second chances, Vriska robbed him of them every step of the way.
She paralyzed him, which was a death sentence and surely didn't help him improve.
She didn't let him do his SBURB quest.
She traumatized him by putting him into a horrifying situation he had little hopes to win (the K8LL M8 fiasco).
Sure, he never contributed anything meaningful pre-death, but that wasn't for a lack of trying.
First of all, he wanted to control Bec into helping defeat Jack. Yet again Vriska had foiled his plan - or at least told him it wouldn't work. (Knowing her, she might have simply wanted to keep Bec Noir all for herself.)
Second, he eventually stood up for himself and decided stopping Vriska was the right thing to do, even if he was scared shitless of her and had zero chances. That was incredibly bold of him. But instead of acknowledging that, Vriska killed him. (It wasn't even self-defense, she wasn't in any actual danger or in a situation where she could feel in danger.)
And when she died, Vriska kept robbing him of opportunities to matter (yes, he didn't want to at first, but we know he changed his mind later). She forced him to play a useless background role in her quest for the juju, and it was only after he finally broke free from her grip that he was able (and willing again) to contribute something to the final battle.
So yeah. I think you're being wrong here.
Anyway, speaking for myself, if he hadn't gathered the ghost army, I'd have still been proud. Characters who can get out of abusive relationships, refuse any actual revenge, and stay true to who they are - are a pretty fucking inspiring. I'd take that kind of relatable, ordinary badassery over dragon-slaying any day. But that's a personal matter, obviously. There's no harm in not caring about some fictional alien. </wall of text>

Early on in Homestuck it seems like most relationships weren't played on seriously. Even the troll relationships during Act 5 weren't even anything too serious. I mean, look at Equius' love for Robo-Aradia, Eridan trying to find literally ANYONE to love, and Nepeta's shipping chart bullshit and hopeless love for Karkat. The only one that was seemingly played straight was Feferi and Sollux, which was shortly shitted on by Eridan of course.

Hivebent is truly grueling on a re-read after Act 7. It had already become something of a chore on re-reads in the past, because you'd have learned by then that portions of it are largely irrelevant due to the trolls involved being killed off or relegated to the background...but after Act 7, it becomes something outright painful. Karkat and Terezi, the most prominent players with the most dialogue, are utterly unrecognizeable from their Act 6 counterparts; they effectively died. Everything their old iterations that have no bearing on the story say is an absolute waste of time, and the massive Karkat-to-Karkat memos that go on for a day each are like a personalized punishment for having anything to do with this comic. It's impossible to work up the motivation to plow through a massive fortress of text spoken by a character who was cast as a main protagonist but ended up being absolutely worthless to the narrative.
And Vriska, of course, is Vriska, and it took me days to finish Hivebent because I didn't want a thing to do with her. Tavros becomes anathema because he is nothing more than Vriska's shadow and chiefly exists to herald her presence. As a consequence, the best trolls on a post-ending reread turn out to be the bit players who were useless from the start, and the ones who end up on the sidelines.
