Gallagher successfully updates the world of Heathcliff to take advantage of the possibilities for excellent social satire and comedy. Other properties, such as Garfield, simply have the characters using smartphones and the like, not offering any insight nor poignancy. It's simply an attempt at relevancy, which is more jarring than anything else.
Gallagher may not make Jim Davis money, but his integrity as an artist and entertainer is truely admirable. If you are able, why not shoot him a word of encouragement via electronic mail or perhaps even a small donation?
